Puna offers us an incredible back-yard of steam vents, hot ponds in park setting, black sand beaches, coastal cruising in the rental car with tropical vegetation and ocean views that are a feast for the eyes as well as the spirit, lava flowing into the ocean with awesome sci-fi looking landscaping as a back-drop. True diversity for the Soul, It’s like visiting another planet, all this within 20-25 minutes travel time. 3 miles down the road we have Pahoa town, with ethnic restaurants and Natural Food store or regular supermarket. Always something going on of an interesting nature including some extremely wonderful hiking trails. Going in the other direction we have Hilo town, Rainbow falls, boiling pots, and Kaumana Caves. Guest Access

Guest amentities are private and contained within the unit for full access.

Interaction with Guests

Interaction with guests is up to the guests. I greatly respect guests privacy yet I am accessible 24/7 to guests should the need arise.

The Neighborhood

What do you love about your property's neighborhood?
I love that I live in the country with visible neighbors but not close. That my property is located in an authentic local neighborhood reflecting many of the different ethnic groups living here on the island. That to get here you must travel down a short stretch of country dirt road which only adds to the ambience of the Ohia forest and jungle to scream “ YOU ARE IN HAWAII!” I love the chirping of the Kokee frogs at night. The many songbirds in the day and my African grey parrot imitating the birds and whistling tunes and laughing. The sunny days and rain on the roof at night. Washing everything including myself in rain water from the 8.000 gallen tank which catches the rain off the roof. If I did not have to go out shopping and checking the PO box occasionally, I probably would never leave my property! It is really nice here, what’s not to Love?

Getting around

Renting a car is the preferred mode of transportation as sights and places are very sperad out and not necessarily on the public transit route. The bus stop is at hwy 130 and Ainaloa Blvd. about 1.5 mi from the place.

  • Linda has a big heart and a sense of the aloha spirit. Her place was deep in rainforest. Me and my friend were able to get everything done that we needed to out here.

  • this house is an awesome rainforest experience! surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden, there is the raised ground floor with the cosy living area including a spacious and well-equipped kitchen with lots of storage areas, while upstairs there is a big bedroom with a huuuge wide and cosy bed and the bathroom. everything is so lovely furnished and decorated, we found it very cosy there and it felt just like home!

linda lives right next door, mostly looking after her garden and her animals. she was a great host providing all the privacy one needs, while being available and responsive for any questions at all times. we enjoyed chatting with her from time to time and she was a big help when sharing her longtime local knowledge about the island with us. she even shared her homegrown backyard eggs from her hens and papayas from the garden with us, which all where really delicious.

the property itself is located in the quiet ainaloa area within the puna district and it was just the perfect location for us to start all of our east coast island explorations - whether it was the south-east coast (30 mins drive), kilauea volcano national park (45 mins), the hilo area (30 mins) or the beautiful hamakua coast up until the gorgeous waipi'o valley (60-90 mins).

we stayed there for 4 weeks and totally enjoyed it. if you love tropical garden settings and like having animals & nature nearby - do it!

  • Linda is awesome. Her Ohana for rent is huge and very well equipped. All the linens were amazing as well as a full kitchen. Linda really goes the extra mile for her guests providing eggs from her own chickens when available! We would stay here again if in the area. Good location close to Keaau and Pahoa. Great learning experience to be in a home that is surrounded by well developed flowers and fauna. WIFI is perfect and fast.
Thanks Linda for all your Aloha. We also thought your dog was beautiful!

  • What an incredibly beautiful place to stay! It exceeded my expectation by far. Linda has thought of everything right down to the beach towels and hair dryer.
I was welcomed by a wonderfully fragrant bouquet of gardenias placed in my room. What an added treat it was having the aroma of night blooming jasmine carried through my room by the tropical breeze as I slept.
It was such a restful place away from the hustle and bustle of town and I was able to catch up on some much needed rest.
I am looking forward to my next visit!

I am a plant and critter person. As a kid I wanted to grow up and be Ellie Mae Clampet, then I discovered gardening. With the help of my grandmother and 4 yrs of horticulture training I discovered my purpose. Aside from creating this 20 yr old botanical garden which surrounds this property, I enjoy teaching organic vegtable gardening to young people. Learning how to grow your own food is a dying practice. Society as we know it has turned that job over to companies like Monsanto, Dupont, ...etc. Making people aware of GMO"s is my passion. I have resided in the islands for over 30 years and very much know the "Local way" This sort of info is invaluable, especially if one wants to mingle amoung the locals. There is a distinct dialect and cultural difference that is nice to understand. Ask me.....I will be helpful! If there is fruit happening (Bananas, papaya, or avacados, It is shared. If the girls(hens) are not moulting there are fresh eggs to share, Whatever greens are ripe for picking or vegies are shared. This is a delicious place to be. So if you want to find me I'll be in the garden or messing with the critters.
