The Space

This is a cozy and one bedroom cottage in the heart of the North Park neighborhood of San Diego. The cottage is very private and located in a community of 4 quaint bungalows. The house is full of charm and will leave you refreshed and relaxed.

About the Cottage:

The cottage is a true one bedroom, nice bathroom. Queen bed comfortably sleeps two. A third person may sleep on couch, but it is not a pullout couch. Your stay includes plush towels, and new linens and pillows. There is cable TV and free WIFI internet throughout the house. Gas range, plenty of plates, utensils, and cookware. Dining area with four chairs.

Parking is quite easy! There is one off street parking spot for 1 car, next to the back kitchen red-door. There is also free parking on the street, usually plenty of street parking. Sometimes at night the street parking can be tight. Warning: twice a month there is street cleaning and they will ticket you ($65), so watch signs carefully and move your car accordingly.

Building includes coin-op laundry.

This is a quiet, relaxing cottage – no partying please.

Interaction with Guests

This is a rental of the ENTIRE house, not just a room or a shared space. The whole house, backyard, and amenities are there for you to use.

The Neighborhood

About the Neighborhood:

This cottage is located within walking distance (a couple of minutes walk) from fantastic dining and entertainment options. If you haven't eaten at Carnita's Snack Shack (best carnitas in San Diego), or The Mission (best breakfast/brunch in San Diego), they're only two blocks away! A few more minutes walk to hipster dining and nightlife spots in central North Park (Bar Pink, The Linkery, El Take it Easy, and many more).

If you're looking for a nice pool, the Lafayette Hotel is a few blocks away and has a great pool and patio bar. You can s(website hidden)ring the weekdays for free if you buy a (email hidden), and the place has a big pool party on weekends with a $5 entry fee.

Getting around

For better or worse, San Diego is a driving city. Everyone drives and cars are pretty much the best way to get around. That being said, the house is very close (1 block) to the bus stop, which will take you up and down University Ave. or El Cajon.

The cottage is very close to the bus stop, which will take you up and down University Avenue - from Hillcrest to Downtown.

The beach is a quick 15 minutes drive away, as is Sea World, Coronado, and Balboa Park. The airport is an $18 taxi ride away.

The MTS is a great bus service that can take you downtown, or all over San Diego. We also have a great trolly system. Taxis and Lyft are also really good ways to commute in San Diego, especially if you go to bars. Rental cars and Car2go are great ways to get around as well.

  • While we never met our host, his communication, attention to detail and directions were excellent. The house is very clean and modern, but maintains the classic design elements from that period. Furniture and accents were very appropriate. The bed was very comfortable for us, and the bath and kitchen were spot-on. The appears to have been renovated recently and it was a superior renovation. The neighbor was very nice, safe and a great location. We walked to a great coffee stand (Industrial Grind) a few blocks away, and the second day we were the baristas acted like they have known us for years. This location is absolutely as advertised and more. Thanks Aaron for a great stay!

  • The house was exactly as described: clean, charmingly contained, and conveniently located. We had a great time exploring local neighborhoods, relaxing, shopping, and eating out. We live in northern San Diego and wanted a local escape from our daily busy lives for our 25th anniversary with a chance to explore San Diego neighborhoods we don't normally see: North Park, Hillcrest, University Heights. We walked the fountain/museum area of Balboa Park at night which is beautifully lit up and happily discovered free evening concerts at Sprekles Organ Pavilion (outdoor concerts). The nearby Olympic Cafe quickly became our go-to spot for breakfast and yummy Greek food. Aaron was very professional and polite to communicate with - quick responses to any questions, clear directions for everything. We would highly recommend staying here again - it's less expensive than local hotels, pleasant and homey, parking is right outside the back door, and the neighborhood feels safe. Also, there is fun people watching out the window from the desk - lots of dog walkers. Only con, a door or heavy curtain on the opening between the bedroom and the living room would be nice but not essential. Thanks to Aaron for creating such a fun place to relax and escape! He has another house two houses down so this would be a good place for families to stay that want to vacation together but have some space apart - close but not too close. It even has air conditioning, which is usually not needed in SD but nice to have on those rare hot days. This was our first Airbnb stay and we found it to be easy and pleasant.

  • Aaron was a great host. His communication was timely and efficient. The instructions to find and access the cottage were detailed and accurate. We had a very minor issue halfway through our stay and Aaron addressed it immediately without fuss - very impressed!
The cottage itself was lovely, with some unusual and unique decoration that was really to our taste. It was very comfortable and contained everything we needed. The location was superb for exploring San Diego and the surrounding area.
We would definitely stay in one of Aaron's places again. Many thanks!

  • The place was very clean and as advertised. My wife and I found this to be a great starting off point for our excursions during our stay in San Diego. The two of us found it very spacious however, the bathroom is a little small (but workable). The neighborhood was well suited for just about anything. There was a market and many places to eat nearby for the times that we wanted to stay close. Nearby Balboa park was a great place to run and exercise and home to the famous San Diego zoo (highly recommend doing that). Aaron was an excellent host and was there when we needed him and had questions. My wife and I will definitely be looking into his other properties when we come back to beautiful San Diego.

  • Aaron was a great host! Even though we didn't meet him in person, he was very thorough with all instructions regarding check-in and check-out and was quick to respond to any questions. We loved our time in San Diego and and would stay at the bungalow in Northpark again in a heart beat!

  • Perfect in every way!
We stayed for four nights to check out what San Diego had to offer. To say that we were impressed would be an understatement - the house itself is very well finished with everything you could possibly need. Communication with Aaron was very good in the lead up to our stay and everything was very well laid out in terms of hints and tips for our stay etc.
The house is in a great location and there are a couple of excellent places to check out that are only a short walk away. Carnitas Snack Shack is an absolute must and is well worth the time spent queuing. About 15 minute walk away is 'Tiger Tiger' which is a brew pub - the best we have been to and well worth a trip.
The only slight negative is that the bed is a little on the soft side but thats a personal thing. Also there is no door between the bedroom and lounge area - not great if one of you wants to rest while the other wants to watch some tv. However these are very minor gripes and overall it was a hugely positive stay and I can safely say we'll be checking in again on our return to SD.

  • We spent the last 3 nights of our trip across the USA at the cottage and it was a pleasant stay. The cottage has chocolate box charm, and has been furnished by someone who enjoys searching for unusual objects! It's position gives easy access to most places and having parking outside the door is always a plus when renting in a city. Only downside for us was the bed which we found too soft, but everyone has their preference and this in no way detracts from the loveliness of the property. I would definitely recommend the property to anybody looking for somewhere cosy and intimate in a central location, it is definitely a charming and beautifully restored cottage.
