Howdy and thanks for stopping by my little part of the world!
I remember a day in early March of 2011, when I was looking for a house of my own. I viewed a property on the same street in a part of Austin that had long been forgotten. The property that I originally arranged to view was remodeled but drab and boring. Then I noticed it. Across the street... there it was. A quaint house painted a bright yellow with dark blue trim. A for sale sign was planted in the front yard. Rounding the back of the house, it hit me. Sweeping views of south and east Austin. I made an offer that day for what i now dub: The Cliff House.
Over the course of 8 months, I added a new living room and master suite. although the house looks tiny from the street, it boasts 1400 sqft of living space. it includes 3 bedrooms, two baths and is able to sleep 6. The house is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in hip east Austin. It is less than a 10 minute bike ride to many music venues in east Austin and not much further to points downtown. This convenient location is mere minutes by car to neighborhoods like South Congress, Zilker Park, downtown and Hyde Park.
The house has been completely remodeled and is quite cozy. Enjoy the spectacular views from the back of the house as it sets atop a 40 ft cliff. Amenities include two decks, hardwood floors, new central heat and AC, fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, deck and fire pit (plenty of firewood on site) off the back with incredible views of south and east austin, walk in rain shower in the master bath, plantation shutters throughout, on demand hot water heater, living room with lcd tv and very loud surround sound system, netflix through Wii and high speed wifi. There are three very comfortable queen sized beds, two couches and one full air mattress (if needed).
This is a quickly gentrifying neighborhood in east Austin. It is very diverse and eclectic. East Austin has had a reputation of being a rough area but it is more a past stigma than a current reality. The area is very safe and you'll find many quirky new shops, restaurants and bars in the area. Please check out my guidebook! you'll find a long list of good eats and local haunts that are mostly unknown by outsiders but are local favorites.
Interaction with Guests
i tend to have very little interaction with guests. i do like to hand off keys in person. this puts a face to the voice and i can quickly give you a run down on some of the things you might need to know about the house. if you are new to austin, i dont mind showing you around if my schedule permits. please inquire if interested :)
east central austin is my favorite part of the city. the neighborhood has typically been a very poor part of town. in the last several years, it has been rediscovered and is gentrifying quickly. three things make this neighborhood my favorite. for one its centrally located and provides easy access to F1 track, downtown, airport etc. secondly, i love the diversity... if you are the wealthy/high maintenance needing a starbucks on every corner type, then this neighborhood is probably not for you. but if you are adventurous, love great local and quirky fare...we got you covered :) lastly, i love this neighborhood because its all locals. austin has a huge influx of visitors and this neighborhood is tucked away from all the touristy hotspots. want to see how the locals live? we got that covered too!
there are two bus stops just a few minutes walk from this property. by bike, it takes about maybe 15 minutes to get downtown. cabs are plentiful and if you are renting a car, the driveway has two parking spots and there is an abundance of free street parking.
no big parties. smoking only permitted outside. pets are not allowed.
Stan met us upon our arrival and explained everything about the house. The house is super cute and charming, with an excellent backyard, views of the city, and a firepit. It was perfect for our group of friends. There were plenty of toiletries and towels for everyone and the beds were comfortable. Stan was easily accessible via text. The location is close driving distance to everything we needed to get to - shopping, Palmer Events Center, restaurants. Thanks for a great stay!
The Cliff House is an amazing place to stay and Stan was a wonderful host. The view is great and it's a quick drive to anywhere you need to go in Austin. The three bedrooms are all comfortable and it was nice to have two baths between them. Stan sent us a number of recommendations for food and bars and we went to the breakfast place he suggested twice because it was so delicious. I highly recommend this as a place to stay and would definitely stay there again.
The Cliff House was fabulous! Great location, very clean. Stan was easy to work with and maintained great communication. Thanks again! :)
We had a great stay at Stan's house. It was very clean, kept in perfect condition and the location was great. We could be everywhere in the Austin area within 15 minutes of driving and we really enjoyed our stay. We're planning to stay there again next time we go to Austin.
Stan is the best and his house is great! We had 4 people stay here very comfortably, and the view is great. It's also really closely located to downtown. I walked though if you don't like epic walks you'd probably need a car. The house feels very comfortable, it's recently renovated and feels new and comfortable. A++++
i like to describe myself as nice and normal. very down to earth and go with the flow type of guy. im getting out more and more here lately and traveling to meet old friends and new. i work as a chemist by day and flip houses on the side. yes yes i know its an odd combination but it affords me to work with both my hands and my brains.
my place will be for rent at all times during the year. i have just completed a major addition and happy to share my home with others. be sure to check in around the time of any big austin event (ie, SXSW, ACL or formula F1). im very social and engaging! if renting a single room or the entire house, i will be more than happy to show you some of the best eats and scenes austin has to offer (time permitting).
im not a huge fan of hotels. airbnb seems to be a great match. if i am traveling and looking for a place, please know that i act no differently than when im in my own home. i behave as i want the guests in my own home to behave.
