We were very pleased with not only our first AirBnB experience, but the studio we chose. The space was clean and spacious enough for my fiance and I, as we didn't spend a whole lot of time in the place. It is perfectly located in Hell's Kitchen, with bodegas, liquor stores, a market, and restaurants all within a block or two. Then again, that IS New York. Lex was very personable and flexible with our early arrival and we coordinated a departure time that worked for all of us. I've seen some negative reviews on the space that I simply don't understand. Yes, the photos are "lighter" than the actual space. So what. Yes, there maybe have been a bulb or two out in the bathroom and the seating area. So what. Is it an easy fix? Yes. Did it ruin our experience? Not in the least. This isn't a hotel/motel/Holiday Inn, not sure what people are expecting. We would definitely recommend this to others, and we'd definitely stay here again (although we'd like to stay in other parts of the city as well).
Amazing experience at this apartment.
It´s a perfect place to stay in NY. Everything works, is nice and confortable. I stayed here for 2 weeks in january/february 2015 and it was really a big pleasure.
I recommend it, and I hope to come back soon!
Lex was very nice and exceptionally accommodating when I was late picking up the key. The apt was just as described, although the bed needs a new mattress and the building was not supplying enough heat. Overall a good experience though.
I didn't meet Lex, but I was very appreciative of Lex's setup. Check-In and Check-Out were both a breeze, the apartment was largely as shown in the photos (it isn't quite that bright), and the building is quiet. Other reviews that point out that the bed is next to a window that is right on 10th Ave, well, yes that's true. But the noise here is really no different from anywhere in Midtown. If there are sirens, you're going to hear them. This shouldn't be a shock. I had no trouble sleeping at all, so don't let the noise comments scare you away. Kitchen is functional and will save you money. Internet was appropriate and pretty fast.
Nice, clean apartment that was very conveniently located to where we wanted to be. Description is very accurate and hosts were great! No complaints!
I have a great experience staying here. The place is clean & Lex explain everything about the house upon arrival. Very flexible about check in & check out.
This appears to be one of those NYC flats that's part of a business. You will know them by the accents, usually red draperies, in the pictures. It's hard to say if a person named "Lex" actually exists. We were met by a man who looked bemused when addressed as such, but who nonetheless handled check-in with efficiently, though obviously telling a tallish tale when he asserted that the apartment is his home. The unit is in a pre-war building with an elevator and a reasonably clean lobby, but no doorman. The elevator was broken for two out of our three days there, so we used the stairs (littered and in some disrepair) to reach the third-floor studio. The apartment faces 10th Avenue, and is loud. Very loud. A window air conditioner has spacers no thicker than a paper bag, allowing air and noise to enter virtually without hindrance. There is a space heater to help with the temperature, but alas, we were awaken throughout the night by horns honking and sirens wailing. Expect no sleep whatsoever past about 7 a.m., when traffic begins in earnest. The space is reasonably clean if you don't look too carefully. We wanted as much natural light as possible, and I had to roll up one of the window shades by hand, an easy, but filthy task. The furnishings are about as cheap as can be obtained. The bed is old, the mattress uneven and uncomfortable, the sheets ill-fitting. We were rationed one mis-matched towel each, and when we asked our host for hand towels and wash clothes, he did not know the meaning of the words. About 50% of the bulbs in the apartment were burned out, and if the grime on some of them was any indication, they lost their light long ago. The kitchen was well stocked and worked well -- all except for a wall clock that perpetually reads 5 o'clock. Coffee and tea were supplied. The bathroom was clean, and plenty of Ivory soap in a variety of flavors, was supplied. The TV and Internet worked fine, but the TV remote was held together with duct tape and required some sleight of hand to operate. (Check to make sure the batteries are correctly aligned, and then hold them in tight while operating the buttons repeatedly until they work.) We went back and looked at the pictures after our stay, and while they do accurately depict the place, they somehow (Photoshop?) manage to mask the flaws. We are unlikely to stay here again, and have been soured somewhat on the Airbnb experience by operations such as this. Beware the red accents.
