After an adventurous day in the hustle and bustle of Cairo, retreat to the quiet and beauty of your houseboat on the River Nile. Located a few minutes from the center of the city, you will find it hard to believe that such tranquility can be found amidst the chaos of this wonderful city. Enjoy the fresh breeze on your private balcony with a spectacular panoramic view of the Nile and the city, or just take in the view from the large windows and glass door from within.
While as a houseboat the overall feeling is rustic and bohemian with wooden floors and cozy ambiance, the furnishings can be described as basic Scandinavian with a touch of Egypt. Amenities include air conditioners/ceiling fans, washing machine, wireless internet, satellite TV, balconies, equipped kitchen, and a lovely garden with bench (on the connecting land). Breakfast is included.
Your hosts, Dan (from the USA) and Mia (from Sweden), will share their decades of experience living in Cairo and traveling throughout Egypt and the region to assist you in any way we can to make your stay a most memorable one. To begin with, for example, we have access to wonderful Egyptian drivers who speak good English to take you to and from the airport; and our private tour guides are the best!
This room is in a 3-bedroom apartment and affords a view of the garden, has a large ceiling fan and a large built-in closet.
If all 3 bedrooms are available, you are welcome to rent the entire apartment for ultimate privacy, and we offer this apartment in its entirety at a special price - just ask!
We look forward to welcoming you. Dan and Mia
Quiet and no large parties.

The listing was very accurate; decent neighborhood; Dan is very personable and helpful.
I stayed a week on Dan's boat and everything went very well - Dan is very welcoming, the house boat is very well located, nicely furnished, sunny, with a very nice view on the Nile and Gezira island! A very nice place to stay when in Cairo.
Dan was a fantastic host! Incredibly interesting person and very friendly. In addition, his houseboat is amazing! Best place to stay in Cairo hands down. This little oasis is the perfect escape from the hectic pace of downtown Cairo. Also the location is fantastic for exploring the city. Also I booked Dan's tour guide Mina, who is fantastic tour guide and lovely person as well.
Staying on Dan's houseboat was lovely. Dan was very welcoming and he provided many recommendations on where to go during my 3 night stay. I enjoyed relaxing in the houseboat after a long day of walking and exploring the city and talking with Dan about his travels and worldview.
The houseboat view is gorgeous and the rooms are quite comfortable. I did notice a slight sea-sway in my walk after my stay on the houseboat, which was nothing but comical. Its something that should be expected after staying on a houseboat (or any boat) for a while.
Overall I have only good things to say about staying with Dan on the houseboat. It was great! Highly recommended.
The houseboat is home away from home in Cairo. I arrived in Cairo to stay longer and work here and Dan made it a wonderful start with his hospitality and his useful tipps about the city. I shared the apartment on the boat with another female guest and it was lovely to come home in the evening, sit and let the Nile pass by and have a chat.
The houseboat is well kept and clean. Of course, it is a boat and you have to deal with not completely perfect working bathroom installations. But it does work enough and it is clean, so enjoy the bohemian life-style in a nice community.
Had a fantastic 2 days staying with Dan on his houseboat on the Nile. The place itself was great. I had a double room with A/C in a 2-bed apartment on the top deck. The appt was clean, tidy and came with a good size kitchen, lounge and balcony - great for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. Location only a 5 min walk from the modern cafes and restaurants of Zemelek.
Dan was an excellent host. He recommended an itinary for me before I arrived in the city which helped me make the most of my two days (you need more than 2 days in reality), and he arranged for a driver to pick me up from the airport and show me around the city. He was quick to respond to messages and helped me deal with an issue with a taxi. He was very friendly and I enjoyed talking to him about his experiences travelling around Egypt and some other far flung places.
His driver, Moafak, became my personal driver and tour guide for the weekend. He was also very friendly and his English extremely good. He took me to the main sights but also to some of his local cafes/restaurants to give a feel for true Cairo. At over 6 foot he was also handy for keeping street hawkers off your back.
Overall I'd strongly recommend the houseboat and would stay there again.
Oh, this is what i came from Arabia to experience, the river and sitting there by the river of Nile, the life giver for Egypt! Dan says I can not leave this river, and it is the reason I have been living here in Egypt all that many years of my life.

Hi, I'm Dan. Born in New York City, I've spent most of my adult life living and working in the Middle East, have visited over 40 countries (and lived long-term in 7 countries), and obviously love to travel, play tennis, music, and generally just spread good vibes wherever I am. I have lived on this houseboat in Cairo for 12 years, and can't imagine a more wonderful place to live. I love sharing my passions with others.
Mia has also lived on this houseboat for 12 years, is a renowned Swedish photographer and journalist, authoring several photo-books on Cairo and the region, and thus she has many interesting contacts throughout Egypt and the region. Her other passions include art and gardening.
We live just below the apartments we are posting on airbnb, and look forward to sharing our love of the region and our knowledge with you.
