Nile Houseboat Double Rm. w/Balcony

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Nile Corniche, Tag Ad Dewal, Giza, Egypt

The Space

After an adventurous day in the hustle and bustle of Cairo, retreat to the quiet and beauty of your houseboat on the River Nile. Located a few minutes from the center of the city, you will find it hard to believe that such tranquility can be found amidst the chaos of this wonderful city. Enjoy the fresh breeze on your private balcony with a spectacular panoramic view of the Nile and the city, or just take in the view from the large windows and glass door from within.

While as a houseboat the overall feeling is rustic and bohemian with wooden floors and cozy ambiance, the furnishings can be described as basic Scandinavian with a touch of Egypt. Amenities include air conditioners/ceiling fans, washing machine, wireless internet, satellite TV, balconies, equipped kitchen, a lovely garden with bench (on the connecting land), and the use of a wooden rowboat. Breakfast is included.

Your hosts, Dan (from the USA) and Mia (from Sweden), will share their decades of experience living in Cairo and traveling throughout Egypt and the region to assist you in any way we can to make your stay a most memorable one. To begin with, for example, we have access to a wonderful Egyptian driver who speaks good English, and will be happy to service your needs from airport pick-up and drop-off to trips.

This room is in a 3-bedroom apartment and has its own private small balcony, and the bed is large and can accommodate a couple.

If all 3 bedrooms are available, you are welcome to rent the entire apartment for ultimate privacy, and we offer this apartment in its entirety at a special price - just ask!

We look forward to welcoming you. Dan and Mia

Check In
  • It is a great place on the Nile to feel on vacation in the middle of this active city.

  • Dan's houseboat is simply the best. I've been on other houseboats but I find this one the nicest of all as it's very cozy and artsy. Everything was clean and the sheets/towels provided smelled fresh. Food for breakfast is provided in the fridge for you to cook. The bathroom has constant hot water and the bedroom includes a working air-conditioner. The houseboat is located in a very central location, and there is a street across from the houseboat with a fruit & vegetable market as well as several shops of all sorts. Dan, the host, is a super friendly and attentive person and will give you very useful advice. Overall, it was an excellent experience... I would definitely recommend it to my friends and would stay there again without doubt!

  • Our stay with Dan and Mia could not have been better. Our hosts were friendly, polite, and clear about their expectations for their guests and the houseboat rules. They checked in a few times to see if we needed anything and were always on hand, but gave us our privacy. If some adjustment needed to be done on the houseboat, it was taken care of. If we had questions, Dan was able to point us in the right direction.

Some particularly nice things: On arrival we found the kitchen and refrigerator stocked with basics, which was very much appreciated. Clean linens and towels were provided, which was a relief. The room and houseboat was quite comfortable, homey and even nicer than described. Our views of the Nile were incredible and among the best available, I'm sure.

I would recommend Dan and Mia as hosts and the houseboat as quiet, comfortable lodgings without reservation.

  • Our short stay with dan was very good, he was very helpful to us considering the situation in Egypt and with giving us advice I would surely recommend a stay with him.

  • Dan is an excellent host, and the boathouse was such a pleasure! Dan even took the time to sit down with me and go over the typical ways of Cairo (how to get a taxi, how to cross the street safely, where to eat, etc). That made my trip SO much more enjoyable. And Dan's driver was excellent as well. Such a joy getting to know both Dan and his driver during my 3 days there in Cairo. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • Had a lovely time staying at the boat-house. Would be pushed to find a better deal in downtown Cairo. Great location, on the Nile, overlooking Zamalek, within reach of most central Cairo places. Homely boat-house, equipped kitchen, bathroom, living room, balcony. Spacious rooms, large comfortable beds, occasional, gentle rocking adds to the experience. Sit and eat on the balcony while watching the sun go down over the Nile, or have a few drinks as the moon comes up. Dan was a very decent, down to earth and friendly host, every bit the New Yorker, breath of fresh air. Certainly recommend to all.

  • Dan ran a fantastic service for myself and my partner during our time in the crazy city that is Cairo. He gave us great tips, places to eat and organised (very friendly) driver to take us to the pyramids.
The houseboat is also a great place to watch the sun set and get away from the hustle and bustle of Cairo. Recommended

  • This place is exactly what you hope to find on Airbnb. It isn't fancy, but it is a clean, comfortable room in an amazing location, hosted by a friendly, interesting, knowledgeable guy. I'm grateful I stumbled across this place, and I hope I can make it back sometime in the future.

  • Had a great time on Dan's houseboat. We got in very early to Cairo, and although the room wasn't ready yet Dan helped us store our bags so that we could get an early start around Cairo, museums, etc. The houseboat is very easy to get to, close to a lot of things especially nice places in Zamalek. I would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the apartment.

    Amazing price as well.

  • Dan is a very charming and nice host. The houseboat is lovely and close to everything you need. A really nice place to relax after a long day of sight seeing.

Hi, I'm Dan. Born in New York City, I've spent most of my adult life living and working in the Middle East, have visited over 40 countries (and lived long-term in 7 countries), and obviously love to travel, play tennis, music, and generally just spread good vibes wherever I am. I have lived on this houseboat in Cairo for 12 years, and can't imagine a more wonderful place to live. I love sharing my passions with others. Mia has also lived on this houseboat for 12 years, is a renowned Swedish photographer and journalist, authoring several photo-books on Cairo and the region, and thus she has many interesting contacts throughout Egypt and the region. Her other passions include art and gardening. We live just below the apartments we are posting on airbnb, and look forward to sharing our love of the region and our knowledge with you.
