About this listing
After an adventurous day in the hustle and bustle of Cairo, retreat to the quiet and beauty of your houseboat on the River Nile. Located a few minutes from the center of the city, you will find it hard to believe that such tranquility can be found amidst the chaos of this wonderful city. Enjoy the fresh breeze on your private balcony with a spectacular panoramic view of the Nile and the city, or just take in the view from the large windows and glass door from within.
While as a houseboat the overall feeling is rustic and bohemian with wooden floors and cozy ambiance, the furnishings can be described as basic Scandinavian with a touch of Egypt. Amenities include air conditioners/ceiling fans, washing machine, wireless internet, satellite TV, balconies, equipped kitchen, and a lovely garden with bench (on the connecting land). Breakfast is included.
Your hosts, Dan (from the USA) and Mia (from Sweden), will share their decades of experience living in Cairo and traveling throughout Egypt and the region to assist you in any way we can to make your stay a most memorable one. To begin with, for example, we have access to wonderful Egyptian drivers who speaks good English to take you to and from the airport; and our private tour guides are the best!
This room is in a 3-bedroom apartment and has its own private small balcony, and the bed is large and can accommodate a couple.
If all 3 bedrooms are available, you are welcome to rent the entire apartment for ultimate privacy, and we offer this apartment in its entirety at a special price - just ask!
We look forward to welcoming you. Dan and Mia
Quiet and no large parties.
Appropriate dress for Muslim cultural sensitivity.
Only registered guests are allowed on the houseboat. (No outside guests.)
Cute place. Wonderful host.
Loved chillaxing on the balcony and watching the houseboats, rowing teams and a waterski board go up and down the Nile. It felt very peaceful.
It was my third time to Egypt, but first time in ten years and first time using Air BnB. Dan was only there the first night, but he has a wealth of information about Cairo and explained the metered cabs (which changed since the last time I was here) and lots of other details.
I couldn't have been happier here! Dan is incredible in conversation, excellent with helping coordinate tours and airport travel, and had the apartment well stocked upon my arrival. Sitting on the Nile balcony for meals and reading in the evening is one of the most memorable experiences of my tour of the Middle East. I look forward to return to Egypt just to stay here again, next time with family!
Had a great time staying at Dan's Houseboat. Apartment looks great, everything you'll need is there. Centrally located but not too noisy, nice view over the Nile. Dan is very welcoming and helpful. Comes highly recommended!
The houseboat is a little haven amidst the chaotic, bustling charm of Cairo, and while you're never quite going to escape the noise of the city, there was something wonderfully serene sitting on the balcony watching the Nile drift past you. You'll get plenty of advice of where to go and what to see from Dan, who has had quite the life and is full of stories, and if you can take the tours with Mina, a local guide who'll take you around the pyramids and the museum.
Dan was very welcoming. It was great to chat to someone with so much experience of Cairo. Learning how to get a taxi and cross the road were life-saving tips!
The houseboat is in a great location. It's a little slice of peace in an otherwise chaotic city.
The rooms are clean and tidy and the bed is very comfortable.
I would recommend it to anyone visiting Cairo.
We had an incredible stay at the Nile Houseboat. The accommodations were comfortable & clean. The location is convenient & unique. Dan was an excellent host, making our stay very enjoyable. He helped arrange an airport taxi, as well as a driver/tour guide. Highly recommend booking at stay at Dan's floating accommodation!
Dan is a cool and caring host. Unfortunately, we forgot the instructions to find the Nile boat at home, but Dan was quick to contact us to provide new directions. We recommend to let Dan provide contact to local guides if you plan to visit the major sites in and around Cairo.

About the Host, Dan
Hi, I'm Dan. Born in New York City, I've spent most of my adult life living and working in the Middle East, have visited over 40 countries (and lived long-term in 7 countries), and obviously love to travel, play tennis, music, and generally just spread good vibes wherever I am. I have lived on this houseboat in Cairo for 12 years, and can't imagine a more wonderful place to live. I love sharing my passions with others.
Mia has also lived on this houseboat for 12 years, is a renowned Swedish photographer and journalist, authoring several photo-books on Cairo and the region, and thus she has many interesting contacts throughout Egypt and the region. Her other passions include art and gardening.
We live just below the apartments we are posting on airbnb, and look forward to sharing our love of the region and our knowledge with you.
