Interaction with Guests
When we are in Bali and not traveling to parts unknown, we usually stop in daily to just check on how things are going.
Our house is set in the rice fields and surrounded by nature. Look out the windows and see the palm trees, lush gardens, and various small animals. There is a yoga studio and several small restaurants along our path, and a supermarket down at the street level.
There are cars and drivers at street level, unless you prefer to walk and explore our neighborhood.
Please try to arrive between 2:00 and 4:00 pm as that is when Made', our housekeeper, leaves for the day. If you are arriving after that, please make arrangements with us so that someone can be there to greet you.
We stayed at Villa Semua Suka for 5 days with our 18months old daughter. There were some negative things such as the path to arrive to the house from the main street was a bit tiring having to carry a 12kg kid and shopping and a pram etc... And a bit dangerous at some parts where the path was very narrow and one slip can cause a LOT of damage. I'm sure its part of the beauty of Ubud but was not the safest path with a toddler, its just that we're not used to this lifestyle. The second negative thing was the construction site right next door, we intended to stay at the house and chill and use the pool but had to make plans to go out all day and come back after 4, when the workers stopped. Which meant a more tiring stay than relaxing. But I'm sure those 2 points wouldnt be an issue for other people who go out all day and perhaps are more adventurous than ourselves
Some people love the walk along the (email hidden)d others don't. And in 6 years of living here, I've never heard of anyone falling off it.
The walk is well documented in the description of our villa, so it shouldn't have come as a surprise.
As for the construction, I'm sorry you were disturbed by that...but we have no control of our neighbor building.....and you're the only guest that has complained about it.
The villa is very well designed and maintained. Baliness style incorporated into Western and full modern amenities. Great daylighting and ventilation design. Me and my family were so relaxed during our stays. I enjoyed my morning walk and afternoon exploration in the rice paddy. My mom was so inspired by the art work curated by Barbara. Dad could not stop taking photos of this beautiful environment. My brother and sister enjoys the company of Milo so much and my brother finally stopped playing the phone :p.
The breakfast is another highlight. Real bread, real jam and real juice.
I highly recommend this place to couples and family.
We had a nice stay at the villa which was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The highlight of our stay was the food as the housekeeper prepared us a lovely Balinese dinner and made wonderful breakfasts each morning. The gardens and pool were very well kept and added to the lush Balinese atmosphere.
One thing that should be noted: this home is not accessible by car. After about 10 steep steps, there is a roughly 10 minute walk before you reach the villa. The route to the villa is so narrow in some parts such that I could not easily maneuver my baby's stroller. Moreover, the narrow sections are raised about 10 feet or more above streams and hills. If I were traveling alone with my husband this would merely add to the adventure, however, I was with my 9 month old baby and parents. My 60 year old mom had a really challenging time navigating the path to the house and did not feel comfortable coming and going after dark. I would suggest that the host make note of the fact that the villa is not accessible by car in the ad so prospective guests can plan accordingly.
Barbara's emails were very friendly and welcoming as were the photos of her villa. The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious and plentiful. However, I wasn't pleased to discover such a difficult entrance to the property by way of very uneven, steep steps up from the road, a narrow, long and dark walkway a long way from the Bintang supermarket where the taxi drops you and your luggage! If mobility is even a slight issue this is a problem as the paths and steps are usually wet as well. Because of this we ended our stay early as we felt our holiday was compromised due to feeling unsafe on our nighlty return.
If there are other guests in the adjoining apartment you may feel a lack of privacy as they share the pool and garden area and the staff service them from the main kitchen. We found we were disturbed by this and felt at times invaded by guests and constant coming and going of staff. Even the driver came into our bedroom upstairs unannounced! Staff seemed to wander all through the downstairs bedroom with out any warning. Although the villa is very comfortable and clean I would source a different location next time.
I can't say enough great things about Barbara & Henry's place at Villa Semua Suka. This was absolute paradise...no exaggeration. I will never stay anywhere as lovely as this house & have the greatest memories of my entire trip from this accommodation. It is impeccably clean, elegantly designed in traditional Indonesian style & peaceful & safe. I'm determined that there is no better place to stay than here & I can't wait to be back. Pia is the greatest human being who is sociable, helpful & an amazing cook. There aren't enough words to describe this utopia. It is my retirement inspiration. Many thanks for opening your home to us. Can't wait to return!
We enjoyed our stay at Villa Semua Suka very much and were very heavy hearted to say our goodbyes.
The villa is a very comfortable place to relax and tastefully decorated with Balinese treasures and artwork.
The team that Barbara has at the villa were a joy to be around and provided an excellent service during our stay. Pia was wonderful with our 3 year old and the breakfasts were outstanding! Blue was a fabulous driver! We felt very spoilt on many fronts.
We loved the location of the villa and found some great places to eat nearby. The spa and yoga retreat nearby were both wonderful.
We would have no hesitation recommending this place and are hoping to return one day!
We spent 3 nights at Villa Semua Suka in Ubud. We can highly recommend it as from the moment we walked into the beautiful garden, we loved this place!!! We booked the villa for 3 nights but all of us 4 wanted to stay longer! The House is so pretty and furnished with much love for details! Pia and Ratna prepared a great breakfast with homemade bread and jam, eggs and fresh juices every morning and they were so nice! I really hope we can come back soon :)! Thank you for everything!

About the Host, Barbara
My husband and I have had a love affair with Bali for many years, buying our Villa Sunrise on the beach in 2004, opening an Indonesian furniture and art gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico, organizing yoga and meditation retreats, and now having built our Villa in the ricefields of Ubud.
Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun were built in 2011 to western standards with a Balinese esthetic.
We have decorated the villa with high quality Balinese art, furniture and artifacts. Villa Sunrise, Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun are our 'homes' not 'hotels'........welcome Home!
