THE HOUSE & LOCATION
Our house is a wooden Victorian 2-storey villa on a on crooked, leafy little street in a quiet and very central location. It’s comfortable and unpretentious … just like us! Car parking is available on the street immediately outside the house.
A 7-minute walk takes you into the heart of Nelson with its cafes, bars, shops, movies, art gallery, museum and live theatre. It's only a few more minutes to river and hillside walks, 25 minutes on foot to the sea.
If you spot the police car in the street view on G Maps do not be alarmed: our friendly local community policemen lives just across the road. Need we say that the neighbourhood is very safe?
Our family arrived in Nelson in the late 1800's (from Ireland) so our connections to the place and the people are wide and deep. We'd enjoy sharing our networks and local knowledge with you.

Good time with Mary Ellen & Dave, great hosts. Took me on a local area tour and fed me a nice dinner also.
Really great home to stay in for three nights in the centre of Nelson. Mary-Ellen and her husband Dave are great and very welcoming throughout the duration. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious, likewise the shared bathroom.
What a lovely place to spend a few days. Mary Ellen is a great host with ideas and help if needed but we just enjoyed being about her house reading and keeping cool in between taking in the chamber music festival.
Mary Ellen and Dave are such warm and welcoming hosts, any guest would enjoy staying at their place again and again. Learning about their stories overlooking beautiful Nelson with some wine and delicious food just made the trip. Would love to stay there again. Great place, great hosts.
Mary Ellen and Dave - a wonderful visit we had with you. Your home is a home from home - I found it difficult to leave! How we valued being able to stay with such hospitable New Zealanders whilst visiting Nelson, it made our experience all the more enjoyable. Dinner conversation and warm fireside, comfy beds and enticing breakfasts. What more could you want from a stay whilst away?
It was very nice to stay there! Mary was very friendly and helpful.
The bathroom was on the other side of the house, but this was not a problem.

I love all sorts of music. Dave loves sport . We are both happy to talk politics, especially at the beach!
We’re new to AirBnB … but we’re not new to having international guests. I used to teach and we have had students of all nationalities and ages staying with us over the years.
We both have a long association with Nelson and are happy to help you with local tourist information and share our special and favourite local places.
