THE HOUSE & LOCATION
Our house is a wooden Victorian 2-storey villa on a on crooked, leafy little street in a quiet and very central location. It’s comfortable and unpretentious … just like us! Car parking is available on the street immediately outside the house.
A 7-minute walk takes you into the heart of Nelson with its cafes, bars, shops, movies, art gallery, museum and live theatre. It's only a few more minutes to river and hillside walks, 25 minutes on foot to the sea.
If you spot the police car in the street view on G Maps do not be alarmed: our friendly local community policemen lives just across the road. Need we say that the neighbourhood is very safe?
Our family arrived in Nelson in the late 1800's (from Ireland) so our connections to the place and the people are wide and deep. We'd enjoy sharing our networks and local knowledge with you.
On the other hand, we are happy for you to be totally independent and simply use the place as a springboard for your own explorations.
CHILDREN WELCOME - our place is ideal for family or small groups . Check to see if we can reconfigure our two guest rooms (see below) to suit families or small groups.TARIFF FOR EACH CHILD IS $17.50 PER CHILD PER NIGHT.

It was very nice to stay there! Mary was very friendly and helpful.
The bathroom was on the other side of the house, but this was not a problem.
Lovely room in a quiet and convenient location, and the comfiest bed I have slept in for years... I didn't want to get out of it! Mary Ellen has a lovely home and is a very friendly host.
Mary was a helpful host and happy to have a chat. As a single traveller I value this very much. She has a lovely home and I felt quite comfortable in the room I had. The bed was great and the room large and airy. The private bathroom was valued also.
Lovely people, lovely place! We had a good time at Nell's of Nelson!
We appreciated very much the kindness of the owners and the location of the beautiful house! All the best for Nell's of Nelson!
Mary Ellen was an extremely kind host! The house is beautiful, has lots of character, and is in a great location- only a short walk into the city center. I would recommend the Nells of Nelson to any traveller!
We had a great stay with Mary Ellen at Nell's of Nelson. She is very knowledgeable about the area and is a gracious host. The house is located near the center of town which makes it great for walking. It is on hill so be prepared for a little bit of a walk up to get back.
What fantastic Kiwi hospitality! We had a most enjoyable stay at Villa Heart and Home - even being invited to join the family BBQ which was both entertaining and delicious. The room is clean and tastefully decorated and I especially enjoyed the high quality linen and pillows and little personal touches like the dressing gowns provided. It was relaxing to be left to serve ourselves breakfast at our own pace which we chose to eat out on the balcony. Do be aware that the bathroom is not ensuite.
Thanks Mary Ellen. Your home and hospitality were a very special way to start our South Island trip!
Fantastic hosts, happy to chat and share about NZ and the area, willing to go (literally) out of their way to help. Brilliant experience.
And wonderful lemonade on arrival!
