HURRICANE MARIA UPDATE 11/22/17
We currently have water, but NO power or Internet. Cell phone service is limited Please check back with us often and we hope you will come stay with us as soon as the electricity comes back on!
Sal del Mar is located in the town of Isabel Segunda on the island of Vieques. We are close to everything, including the ferry. You can hear the waves crashing on Sea Glass beach below. The expansive deck offers a lovely ocean view that stretches for miles.
Your lodging will be located on first floor (DN) of our home. Your view from the back deck will be wonderful and the ocean will shimmer in the sunlight. You will be treated to marvelous sunsets right from your own back deck! This fully refurbished apartment, including new furniture, is our home away from home. With an updated kitchen and laundry, and within walking distance of just above everything else, who could want for more!
If the downstairs apartment isn't available, please check out our upstairs apartment listing, Sal del Mar (U).
There are two private bedrooms and a futon couch located in the living room. While our maximum occupancy is listed as six, this is a small space so you will have to know each other very well if there are more than four of you. We can sleep four comfortably, five with ease, and six in a pinch.
Sal del Mar (DN) includes a wonderful street side porch, a ocean view living room, an updated kitchen with a new range and refrigerator, toaster oven, pots, pans, blender, dishes and everything you need to prepare your own meals. There is even a propane BBQ grill on the back deck!
There is a a large bathroom with a shower and a two small bedrooms. The rear deck faces the ocean; the front porch offers street side views.
This apartment is not recommended for infants, toddlers, or children under the age of five (5) due to an open rear deck.
We are usually "on-island" mid-December to mid-March. If your reservations are during this time, we will meet you at the Vieques airport or ferry dock. If not, our property manager will meet you. Once you arrive, you will be given the keys, learn a little bit about the house and its many features, and have a chance to ask questions.
Access to the apartment is through a street level door. There is also a wonderful front porch, and an ocean view back deck, which you are free to use. Please note that the downstairs apartment has a separate entrance that is not connected to or shared with the upstairs apartment.
Our home is only a seven minute walk from the Vieques ferry terminal. One can usually walk faster than drive, as the only traffic jam in Vieques occurs when the ferry arrives!
Regardless of how you get here, someone will meet you to make sure you are settled in and ready to enjoy your time on the island!
Interaction with guests
We are usually "on-island" the months of mid-December to mid-March. While we may not be on Vieques when you are, we will always be available by phone, text message, or email for any questions that you might have. In addition, our property manager lives on the island and can assist as needed. You are more than welcome to text or call us if you have questions or concerns.
Other things to note
When you stay in the town of Isabel there is little need to rent a car! You can walk just about everywhere, but if you do want to rent a car, please make your reservations in advance.
We do have a small TV with DVD player and HDMI cable available for your use. We do not have cable TV. You can stream movies on our Internet if there are not too many devices using it. In the down stairs apartment, internet can be spotty on the front porch and in the front bedroom. Our Internet provider does not support gaming.
We have provided a washer and dryer for you use. Consider packing light.
Many US cell phones carriers provide service on Vieques, with no roaming charges.
The tap water is excellent and the currency is the US Dollar. There are a number of ATM's in town, and grocery store ATM's usually have the lowest surcharge fees. Most of the shops, stores, and restaurants accept ATM and credit cards, but some places only take cash. Many vendors also have minimum limits on ATM and credit card charges (e.g., varies from $5 to $15).
As this is our home, it is our hope that you will treat it with respect and care!
People of all backgrounds are welcome at Sal del Mar. As we have a first and second floor apartment, we ask that you please be respectful of other guests that may be visiting.

We enjoy life, travel, living in the woods and living at the beach when we get a chance! Our home in Boston, Virginia sits in a 16 acre forest where we hunt for mushrooms, swim in the pond, and walk in the woods every chance we get.
We like to travel with small suitcases and find local places to eat, read, relax and have fun. We love all types of food, especially foods from the sea and places like Central and South America, the Far East, and of course, Puerto Rico!
We have lived on the west coast, the east coast, and in-between both coasts. We consider ourselves to be lifelong learners and continue to be amazed by the things we don't know, as well as the beauty of the world around us.
Family is important to us, as well as building relationships with new and interesting people from all walks of life. We enjoy hosting friends and family at our home in Boston, Virginia, and hope that our relationship with Airbnb will be just another extension of our desire to welcome others into the community we love in Vieques, and our home in Puerto Rico.
