About this listing
I have a traditional Irish cottage, it's around 200 years old, with a lot of local history. Its small from the outside, but has 4 bedrooms. I've been redecorating it for the last couple of years.
The room I am renting, is 11 square meters, it has a lovely big comfortable antique brass bed, wooden floor and vintage furniture, and a nice view of the mountains and landscape. I am trying to restore as traditional as I can, but its kind of looking, shabby chic and quite vintage.
It is an old cottage, so if you are particular about dust etc this may not be for you. I use turf/peat, and its quite messy.
The living room is very cosy with an open fire, you are welcome to relax there during your stay. I also have wifi, but no television I'm afraid.
I can’t recommend a visit to this part of Ireland highly enough, Donegal is amazing, simply stunning natural beauty everywhere, rich in culture, and lots of things to do. I organize weekly adventure and culture experiences called Rock agus Roam. There is something for everyone rock climbing on sea cliffs, hill walking on our mountains and glens, sea kayaking, as well as sailing. I have my own tourism business here.
The people here are not only warm and friendly but all have a story to tell and a song for every occasion. You make a connection with this dramatic and beautiful place that you will never forget.
Derryconnor, my neighbourhood, is a Gaeilge speaking rural area with breathtaking landscape all around. The local village has a lovely hotel, pizza wine bar which often has intimate theatre and other entertainment, lovely cosy pubs serving wonderful Guinness with traditional Irish music sessions regularly and always friendly faces. A pub close by has one of the best traditional Irish music sessions in Ireland, twice a week. Not to be missed.
And the food. Donegal does great food. There is no shortage of locally sourced fresh produce on the plates of bistro’s, pubs, restaurants and hotels up and down the County.
Nearby there are golden beaches to walk and plenty activities if that's what you would like, including pony/horse trekking, kayaking, golf, traditional music sessions, some of the best and most famous in Ireland. There are amazing walks mapped out, along the coastline, around the mountains of Muckish and Errigal, both to be seen out the windows of my house. I love to walk and take in the beautiful surroundings. There are local bus services passing outside throughout the day, I always recommend a car but I won't mind giving you a lift here and there. I will do my utmost to ensure you a pleasant stay.
All the practical things are taken care of in Donegal. It is only 2.5 hours from Belfast, 90 minutes to Derry, about 4.5 hours from Dublin and Galway by car. It has its own airport and is right on the door step of Derry – City of Culture 2013. It’s a perfect destination whether you are on a shoe-string budget or if you can splash out, we have it all here.
A visit to Donegal will always be special and never forgotten.
Make yourselves at home.

We arrived very late the first night and Moira was very understanding and accommodating. She was also gracious in providing a simple light breakfast.
Moira is a living treasure that you would only cone across in Ireland her warmth and charm are an asset in this remote location
Moira was really friendly and hospitable when I stayed at her cottage last weekend. She met me at the nearby village. She was very helpful and accommodating. I enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. I just stayed one night but I hope to explore this part of Donegal soon and would be very happy to stay at the cottage again. Thanks Moira for an enjoyable stay.
It was a very good experience to stay with moira. It was my best place in my holiday... Beautyful area and very quit. you can organise an interesting programma in That area of donegal... Moira gives more than good hospitality and gives good suggestions what to do and where is THE best place to visit a pub etc. Nice and beautyful cottage ... I Will remember this visit and very special area in donegal. I love donegal. Thank you moira, Cecile
Moira was fantastic! She met us in town and led the way to her home so that we wouldn't get lost - afterwards, it was very easy to find, even in the dark. She then made us a cup of hot tea and served biscuits while we asked her about dinner suggestions. The Loft was where she recommended, and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal we had there later that evening.
The house was clean and super cute. The bed was also very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets to keep us cozy all night long. We arrived in the dark, and were amazed at the view out the windows come morning. Moira made us a delicious breakfast in the morning, and was also kind enough to help us structure our sightseeing day, even structuring an itinerary of what to see to make sure we would have enough time to see some of the amazing things in Donegal. I would highly recommend a stay with Moira - and do try to stay more than one night! There's just too much to see in this part of the country!
About the Host, Moira
A little about me, I moved back home from London where I lived for 6 years,, 2 years ago. I just got tired and bored of the city and a crazy hectic lifestyle. The cottage is my mothers original home, it's about 200 years old and has been empty for many many years. It's in an idyllic spot with stunning views of Muckish and Errigal mountains, which you can see from nearly every window. I am refurbishing the cottage, it's a challenging and exciting project, and if one had told me that this is where I would be right now and loving it, I would have laughed in their faces, but here I am and life couldn't be better.
I have a tourism enterprice, I design adventure and culture breaks and experiences for this most beautiful corner of Donegal. Known as Ireland's cradle of culture.
I've managed to squeeze in a lot of travel, around mostly Europe, Spain, Hungary, the Basque country, also travelled around the West Indies, crossed the Atlantic ocean on a 120 foot yacht, one of few girls in the world to have done that apparently and also taught English as a foreign language. I love to travel, but these days I am more interested at what is on my own door step and my own culture. Last night I got out of my car after a long trip and I was struck with awe at the sky, it was just amazing, so clear, so many the stars and so bright, if you're into star gazing then I say here is perfect for that. That happens often to me here, being stopped in my tracks, day or night, I just love it, and would like to share that with my guests. I could go on and on here, but I think if you have read this far, you must be interested in visiting Donegal, so come and see for yourself, stay with me here in my nice Irish cottage, I'll do my best to ensure you have a great time.
I'm very friendly and easy to talk to, I laugh a lot because I see the funny side of things first and foremost and always think that something good will come out of everything, if you can keep it real.
I think you will have an absolute ball in Donegal and be planning your next trip before you leave, that's just what happens to everyone who comes here. Drop me an email anytime too for any further info.
Good luck and see you soon :o)
