Sal del Mar is located in the town of Isabel Segunda on the island of Vieques. We are close to just about everything, including the ferry, and you can hear the waves crashing on Sea Glass beach below. The expansive deck offers a lovely ocean view that stretches for miles.

The space

Your lodging will be located on second floor (UP) of our home. Your view from the back deck will be wonderful and the ocean will shimmer in the sunlight. You will be treated to marvelous sunsets right from your own back porch! This fully refurbished apartment, including new furniture, is our home away from home. With an updated kitchen and laundry, and within walking distance of just above everything else, who could want for more!

If the upstairs apartment isn't available, please check out our downstairs apartment listing, Sal del Mar (D).

There is one private bedroom and a futon couch located in the living room. While our maximum occupancy is listed as four, this is a small space so you will have to know each other very well if there are more than two of you. We can sleep two comfortably, three with ease, and four in a pinch.

Sal del Mar (UP) includes a wonderful street side porch, a large living room, an updated kitchen with a new range and refrigerator, toaster oven, pots, pans, blender, dishes and everything you need to prepare your own meals. There is even a propane BBQ grill on the back deck!

There is a small bathroom with a shower and a small bedroom. The rear deck faces the ocean; the front porch offers street side views.

This apartment is not recommended for infants, toddlers, or children under the age of five (5) due to stairs, railings, and an open front porch.

Guest access

We are usually "on-island" mid-December to mid-March. If your reservations are during this time, we will meet you at the Vieques airport or ferry dock. If not, our property manager will meet you. Once you arrive, you will be given the keys, learn a little bit about the house and its many features, and have a chance to ask questions.

Access to the apartment is by an exterior set of stairs; there are fifteen steps and a handrail leading to the apartment. There is also a wonderful front porch, and an ocean view back deck, which you are free to use. Please note that the upstairs apartment has a separate entrance that is not connected to or shared with the downstairs apartment.

Our home is only a seven minute walk from the Vieques ferry terminal. One can usually walk faster than drive, as the only traffic jam in Vieques occurs when the ferry arrives!

Regardless of how you get here, someone will meet you to make sure you are settled in and ready to enjoy your time on the island!

Interaction with guests

We are usually "on-island" the months of mid-December to mid-March. While we may not be on Vieques when you are, we will always be available by phone, text message, or email for any questions that you might have. In addition, our property manager lives on the island and can assist as needed. You are more than welcome to text or call us if you have questions or concerns.

Other things to note

When you stay in the town of Isabel there is little need to rent a car! You can walk just about everywhere, but if you do want to rent a car, please make your reservations in advance.

We do have a small TV with DVD player and HDMI cable available for your use. We do not have cable TV. You can stream movies on our Internet if there are not too many devices using it. Our Internet provider does not support gaming.

We have provided a washer and dryer for you use. Consider packing light.

Many US cell phones carriers provide service on Vieques, with no roaming charges.

The tap water is excellent and the currency is the US Dollar. There are a number of ATM's in town, and grocery store ATM's usually have the lowest surcharge fees. Most of the shops, stores, and restaurants accept ATM and credit cards, but some places only take cash. Many vendors also have minimum limits on ATM and credit card charges (e.g., varies from $5 to $15).

Best Airbnb ever! Everything you need including snorkeling gear. The view is amazing! Someone was on hand whenever we had a question and gave us rides to and from the airport. We loved this place

Mike and Marie's place is wonderful. Clean, had every amenity, felt safe, and was close to a private beach. Tom was an added blessing! He gave us travel advice that saved us time and money, picked us up at the airport (and dropped us back off!), and made sure we had everything we needed. All around a great experience. HOWEVER, if night life and tourist restaurants/beaches are important to you, Esperanza is where that action is. My fiance and I rented a scooter from Juan at "Scooters for Rent by Vieques", and spent the day scooting around (quick ride to Esperanza) - we highly recommend it!

Marie and Mike's place is a lovely apartment right in town, easy walking to shops, grocery, and restaurants, and relatively quick access to drive to other areas of Vieques. The place is clean, airy, and well stocked, with thoughtful attention to detail, and the description is spot on. Loved the ocean breezes and view. They, and Tom and Sue, were responsive, informative, and helpful with any questions or requests. We highly recommend staying here.

Marie and Mikes is awesome ! We got picked up from the airport no problem and dropped off at the house which made us feel super welcome and helped us get acclimated. We had everything we needed to feel comfortable and at home. The house is clean and looks just like the pictures ( always a plus). They even have a washer/dryer in case you need it. One morning we made breakfast and ate out on the back porch , which was gorgeous. The grocery store is right around the corner. there are also a number of cute little restaurants and bakeries in the town. We particularly liked this little place ( on the corner of main st and the street the house is on) the food was delicious , fresh squeezed OJ was on point, and if you like spicy they have a watermelon habanero hot sauce that was super delicious.

If you want to fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean, birds and crickets, this is the place for you. Marie and Mike's home is clean, has a beautiful view and has everything you could possibly need to enjoy paradise. We walked to the fish shop and the grocery store and took advantage of the grill while watching the sun set over the ocean on the patio. Everything is just as it needs to be to enjoy beautiful paradise in Vieques. Go for it!

Marie & Mike have a lovely home that was perfect for my two friends and me. The view was beautiful from the back porch and the kitchen opening up to the living room was a really nice touch. Would highly recommend for a couple or 3-4 friends traveling together.

Marie & Mike User ProfileMarie & Mike is a superhost.

We enjoy life, travel, living in the woods and living at the beach when we get a chance! Our home in Boston, Virginia sits in a 16 acre forest where we hunt for mushrooms, swim in the pond, and walk in the woods every chance we get.

We like to travel with small suitcases and find local places to eat, read, relax and have fun. We love all types of food, especially foods from the sea and places like Central and South America, the Far East, and of course, Puerto Rico!

We have lived on the west coast, the east coast, and in-between both coasts. We consider ourselves to be lifelong learners and continue to be amazed by the things we don't know, as well as the beauty of the world around us.

Family is important to us, as well as building relationships with new and interesting people from all walks of life. We enjoy hosting friends and family at our home in Boston, Virginia, and hope that our relationship with Airbnb will be just another extension of our desire to welcome others into the community we love in Vieques, and our home in Puerto Rico.
