About this listing

The space

Appartment comprises Room and private adjacent Bathroom, with -south- view & direct access to the canal (Raamgracht). In the heart of the canal district (centre) and within 200m of City Hall, the opera & theatres, central station, etc.
Ground floor of a canal house built in 1597, with wooden floor. Sleeps 2, w adjacent bathroom; fireplace, french doors to 'city garden'. There used to be bikes with the room, but due to to many theft this stopped.. But the good news can rent them 3 min away from our house :-) to a good price.

Apartment is centrally located, w south viewing windows, directly next to canal (Raamgracht). It is compact, modern, cosy and convenient. Restaurants, Starbucks/Coffee, Pubs and theatres in short walking distance. The neighbourhood is safe, a police office/station is around the corner, as is the 'Rembrandt House', the painter's former home and current drawings museum.

Amsterdam is compact -bicycles will get you anywhere-, yet metropolitan, with lots of cultural offerings. The apartment is approx. 100m from the Nieuwmarkt (Newmarket) metro station and Central Station is nearby as well.

We had a wonderful time seeing Amsterdam for the first time from Karin's little "boathouse"! Was a great location close to the heart of the "onion" (the centre of Amsterdam) would definitely recommend to friends!

The Boathouse is a cozy, comfortable place in an amazing location! It was a great experience to be in an original Canal House and it is very central, so you can walk easily to any location. Lot's of great pubs and restaurants close by. Karen and her family are wonderful hosts. We really enjoyed our stay with them and would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to explore beautiful Amsterdam!

As others have mentioned, the boathouse is on a corner near a busier canal. It's not in the hustle and bustle of the downtown commercial area, but it does see a bit of foot, bike and vehicle traffic. I did have to sleep with earplugs while there, but I'm a light sleeper. My companion can sleep anywhere and had no issues. It really depends on the person! The unit is about the size of a small studio apartment and is very conveniently located for an easy walk around Amsterdam. There's a fantastic Thai restaurant two doors down! The bed was comfortable and the unit was clean. Karin was easily reachable for any questions we had.

Karin was a great host. We arrived early and she accommodated us. After a 10hr flight and no sleep that was very much appreciated. The bed was comfortable, the apartment was warm and the water pressure in the shower was good. It's also a fantastic location. I recommend staying with Karin if you want a clean, comfortable and central location in Amsterdam.

Overall, a good stay for a great price! Karin was home when we arrived and gave us good recommendations across the city. The studio is a bit noisy because it's located on the ground floor of the house and within close proximity to the street/canal. I'd recommend bringing ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. Road construction happened to take place throughout one of the nights we stayed. Karin was very apologetic even though it was completely out of her control. She even treated us to breakfast :) Unfortunately, the bikes were not available because they were stolen a couple weeks prior.

Sometimes you meet a person and you just somehow know that a person is kind and understanding and helpful. I'm not sure what exactly causes this, but this was my experience with Karin and her partner. We arrived late due to our many lay overs and after hearing that my girlfriend and I were tired and hungry, Karin's partner immediately ran over to the spot next door and asked them to prepare one final meal for us before their kitchen closed. He knew them personally. Air BnB asks reviewers to rate a place as being basic, or comfortable, and other options. I'm not a person of great wealth so my understanding of these terms are funneled through my own experiences. I rated this place as being better than basic because of the interactions I had with the hosts and their help with navigating this city and recommendations for places to see. The room itself is a studio style apartment located only a 10 minute walk away from the train station. The house is very hold and made with wood floors which happen to creek as you walk. This may not be the experience wished by some, but I had no problem with hearing the creeks of an old house in the morning. The location is very close to many downtown locations and quite accessible to public transportation. I would very gladly stay there again and I highly recommend the location next door for their amazing selection of Belgian beers and really good food.

The room is exactly like the pictures, nice and cozy, but it's especially convenient for the city centrer. The welcome was very warm and Karin is very nice and helpfull.

I am psychologist, married & mother of 3 boys (17, 20, 21). We lived in Hong Kong, Boston and London, but now love Amsterdam. It is a compact city (a bicycle is a must-have), yet very metropolitan, w. lots of cultural offerings. I am a lousy cook, but an avid literature reader and a sail-boat skipper, sailing regattas.
