Oh, do come in! My warm and intimate home is clean, spacious, comfortable and is located in the heart of southeast where you will find all that is weird and wonderful about Portland!
Built in 1892, this colorful Victorian house, remodeled into apartments, is one of the oldest in the Belmont/Hawthorne neighborhood! Follow the wrap-around porch to your own private apartment where the charm continues with 12-foot ceilings, vintage decor and tall windows featuring stained-glass accents.
The home is oh so favorably located between two popular shopping thoroughfares (Belmont & Hawthorne Street) with funky independent boutiques, coffee shops, a farmers market, antique stores, dark lounges, dive bars, great restaurants and an old movie theater that serves beer and wine ~ all within walking/biking/stumbling distance. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, colorful and quirky. The house is geared toward 20- and 30- somethings, but all guests are welcome and will enjoy the space!

THE LIVING ROOM is bright and spacious with hardwood floors & comfy furnishings. Listen to records, crank the heat and play cards, read a book in the big velvet arm chair, or enjoy a meal at the dining table.
THE KITCHEN is fully equipped for your cooking pleasure! It is bright, spacious, and has everything you need to create fresh meals with local farmers market produce or to simply scoop your delivery food onto a plate.
THE BATHROOM dons a porcelain claw foot tub with a full shower head and a small space heater, for exiting your bubble bath in warmth. :) There is a hair dryer and multiple hair appliances available, as well.
THE CLOSET has velvet hangers, space for hanging, and a mirrored vanity shelf. Drawers are available for longer stays.
THE HOUSE: The house is a large Victorian house that is divided into a few units. You will have a completely private unit and none of the facilities are shared with the other tenants. As with most earlier homes walls can be thin and though my neighbors are all very quiet and VERY respectful young professionals, sometimes they can be heard cooking or running their blender. Since there are many levels of sensitivity to these things, it's hard to say who may be bothered. Out of the hundreds of guests hosted over the years, only 2 have mentioned this, but it is good to know!
About your hostess: I am one of those transplants from afar who stumbled upon Portland and simply couldn't think of a better place to be. I've been here for 4 years and still have not explored all this town has to offer. I love yoga, photography, sushi, rock 'n roll, laughing, camping, travel and adventures of all kinds. I have put a lot of time, energy, and love into my home because I believe it's important to have a happy sanctuary that makes it easy to create and function and to be my best possible self.
I would love to have you.
Sydney's home is so lovely and cozy! I stayed here with a friend and it was perfect for exploring Hawthorne as well as going into the city center (you can take the 14 or 15 bus line and be downtown in about 20 mins). Her guide was absolutely perfect, especially when you just want to run out the door to grab something to eat. Quiet neighborhood, it felt safe even when walking late at night. It was great exploring Portland, but it definitely helped knowing we were going to be coming back to a home that was welcoming and had all the amenities we needed. I've already recommended it to my friends and will continue to do so to anyone that asks about visiting Portland. Sydney has created a lovely home and is a wonderful host. Thank you Sydney! I hope to be back soon :)
Fantastic apartment, beautiful situated and a gracious hostess.
I highly recommend staying here if you ever go to Portland.
Wait, you should go to Portland to stay in this apartment.
Thank you so much Sydney.
Such an awesome place. I had a seamless stay here and it is walking distance to an abundance of rad stuff. Coming from Vancouver, I liken the neighborhood this house is located in to East Van and located right in between Hawthorne st. and Belmont st. which is equivalent to Commercial dr. and Main st. if they were only a few blocks apart. Sydney's place has everything from a comfortable bed and every amenity imaginable to a record player and tarot cards all bundled up in comfy eclectic abode. As a host Sydney is a super attentive and easily reachable if need be.
We had a great weekend in Portland, despite the best efforts of the snow and ice. The apartment is well located in a residential neighbourhood, near pubs and shops and on a main bus route to downtown.
The apartment is warm and welcoming, and it was nice to know we had it to return to when we got cold and wet. Syndey was a very attentive host, making sure we got to the apartment from the airport (which on a normal day would be no problem, in a snow-storm it was a different story....) and providing plenty of information on things to do.
One thing to note though is that the apartment is on the first floor of an old wooden house, so you can hear some noises from above, nothing too much though and only very seldom. This was no problem for us, and wouldn't be for most people, it's just something to be aware of.
My friend and I loved this flat and will likely stay here again if possible next time we are in PDX! Awesome location - walking distance from so much great stuff (vintage shopping, record stores, mindblowing restaurants and fun bars) and loads of street parking. The décor is pretty rad too. We had a minor issue with the space heaters malfunctioning, but we cranked the thermostat up and it got nice and toasty. Plus Sydney is very helpful and responsive. There aren't too many hotels in this part of town, this is way better than a hotel room anyway, book it!!!!!
Such a wonderful apartment! Great restaurants, bars and shopping in the neighborhood and a super quick bus ride downtown. Sydney was such a great host and went above and beyond to make my stay fantastic.
Stayed at Sydney's for a winter weekend in January, and really loved everything about her space. Unlike a sterile hotel room, her sanctuary feels warm and home-y. The apt. is part of a divided older house, and although it was no bother to me, the walls a very thin as you can expect in an older portland home. Being the colder part of the year, it was nice that her heat worked very well and we were never left chilly or drafty like some older places tend to do. All in all, it was a great place to call home for a few days and right next to a ton of great bars and food. I highly recommend it if your looking for a spot to stay that is more of the quintessential SE Portland experience.
Great little suite for exploring Portland. Everything was just as the profile indicated and the whole experience was without flaw. Great place and great host.
I cannot recommend this place enough! Perfect location for shops, coffee and fab eating. Cute as anything interior and a really nice neighborhood. If you're going to Portland stay here!!
Everything was perfect! Thank you Sydney, your place is cozy, clean and fantastically located. Sydney was on top of everything and I felt welcomed and at home in her apartment. I enjoyed my solitude, and having my coffee on the back deck surrounded by trees. :) Sydney is a perfect professional and warm host.
