The Space

Oh, do come in! My warm and intimate home is clean, spacious, comfortable and is located in the heart of southeast where you will find all that is weird and wonderful about Portland!

Built in 1892, this colorful Victorian house, remodeled into apartments, is one of the oldest in the Belmont/Hawthorne neighborhood! Follow the wrap-around porch to your own private apartment where the charm continues with 12-foot ceilings, vintage decor and tall windows featuring stained-glass accents.

The home is oh so favorably located between two popular shopping thoroughfares (Belmont & Hawthorne Street) with funky independent boutiques, coffee shops, a farmers market, antique stores, dark lounges, dive bars, great restaurants and an old movie theater that serves beer and wine ~ all within walking/biking/stumbling distance. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, colorful and quirky. The house is geared toward 20- and 30- somethings, but all guests are welcome and will enjoy the space!

- 1 Bedroom, living room, full bathroom, full kitchen, closet space
- Queen bed, high-quality linens
- TV, DVD, secured WIFI (no cable)
- Free parking in driveway & on street, also several car2go cars available on street
- Front porch & back deck, fenced in backyard (small pets welcome!)
- Claw foot bathtub
- Washer & Dryer (coin op)
- Full kitchen amenities: French press coffee maker, large fridge, gas stove, microwave,
blender, Panini grill, rice cooker/veggie steamer, etc.
- excellent heating in the winter months, cool and breezy in the summer
- walking distance to grocery stores: Safeway, Zupans, Farmers Market, Fred Meyer
- One block from a designated biking boulevard and multiple buses
- 3 blocks from Colonel Summers park, 15 blocks from Laurelhurst Park, lush all year
- 15 minute bus to downtown, where visitor destinations are rife!
- 25 blocks from Willamette River & its beautiful bridges

THE BEDROOM features a dangerously comfortable Queen bed with a TV & DVD player perched at its foot, for rainy-night wind-down time. The lamp lighting is cozy and the desk has a slew of working space & a large office chair, if you're here on business.

THE LIVING ROOM is bright and spacious with hardwood floors & comfy furnishings. Listen to records, crank the heat and play cards, read a book in the big velvet arm chair, or enjoy a meal at the dining table.

THE KITCHEN is fully equipped for your cooking pleasure! It is bright, spacious, and has everything you need to create fresh meals with local farmers market produce or to simply scoop your delivery food onto a plate.

THE BATHROOM dons a porcelain claw foot tub with a full shower head and a small space heater, for exiting your bubble bath in warmth. :) There is a hair dryer and multiple hair appliances available, as well.

THE CLOSET has velvet hangers, space for hanging, and a mirrored vanity shelf. Drawers are available for longer stays.

THE HOUSE: The house is a large Victorian house that is divided into a few units. You will have a completely private unit and none of the facilities are shared with the other tenants. As with most earlier homes walls can be thin and though my neighbors are all very quiet and VERY respectful young professionals, sometimes they can be heard cooking or running their blender. Since there are many levels of sensitivity to these things, it's hard to say who may be bothered. Out of the hundreds of guests hosted over the years, only 2 have mentioned this, but it is good to know!

About your hostess: I am one of those transplants from afar who stumbled upon Portland and simply couldn't think of a better place to be. I've been here for 4 years and still have not explored all this town has to offer. I love yoga, photography, sushi, rock 'n roll, laughing, camping, travel and adventures of all kinds. I have put a lot of time, energy, and love into my home because I believe it's important to have a happy sanctuary that makes it easy to create and function and to be my best possible self.

I would love to have you.

Also, If my spot is booked or if you're visiting Portland with multiple couples and are looking for an additional accommodations, check out my friend's AirBnB listings in the same neighborhood! They, too, are excellent hosts!

  • Sydney was friendly.

  • We had a great time in Portland, Sydney's place is very central so we explored the city on foot and bike. There are several good eateries/pubs close by. Sydney's place was exactly as advertised, was clean and comfortable. We found the unit to be very quite and would stay here again.

  • Great location! This place was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. I would stay here again for sure.

  • This place was exactly as described! Great location, we didn't get a car because we knew we would be able to easily walk everywhere! Tons of info and books for guests and thoughtful interaction from Sydney. Would love to stay again sometime!

  • Sydney's apartment was a super cozy, comfortable place in a perfect location! If you are out and about most of the time like we were you will find this to be the perfect place to crash at the end of the day.

  • What a perfect place to stay to explore Portland! This was my first time in the city and my boyfriend and I loved the location. The apartment was cozy and quite charming. It's true that there is noise from adjoining apartments, but for the most part we were so tired after a long day of tooling around that we zonked out on the comfy bed. I just wish we could have stayed more than two days!

  • We had a terrific time in Portland! Sydney's place is very central to where we wanted to go, so for the most part, we parked the car and explored the city on foot. There are several good eateries within a short walking distance from her place. Sydney was a terrific hostess - she was easy to get hold of when needed, her place was clean and had everything we needed for a short getaway. The bed is a comfortable one. Her small but well-stocked kitchen allowed us to make meals on occasion. Love the decor! We would highly recommend this place to a couple looking for a home base in Portland for a few days.

  • We absolutely loved our stay. Such a great little place in such a great area. Very comfortable the entire stay and so any helpful maps of restaurants and interesting places to check out. I can't say enough and if I had to make a complaint it's the fact we had to leave and go home. I know that when I go back to visit Portland we'll certainly inquire to stay at Sydney's cozy Victorian sanctuary! All the stars for this place!

  • Sydney has a lovely place in the perfect spot for tooling around Portland! We were amazed at just how conveniently located it was to tons of places to eat, shop, drink, and chill. And each day we had a super cozy, welcoming place to come back and rest our feet. Sydney made sure to take care of every detail ahead of our stay, from chocolates on the towels to detailed notes and descriptions of where to find the best local stuff Portland had to offer. As a host, she was wonderful in anticipating all the questions we might ask!

We already miss Portland so much - but we were so happy to get to spend our time there in Sydney's killer place!

  • My fiance and I stayed at Sydney's place for 5 days for a vacation and we loved it! The listing and reviews were really accurate and as someone who appreciates good aesthetic, her home was both visually pleasing and had a really good vibe. My favorite parts were the location relative to the city (it's really easy to get anywhere and there are amazing food and entertainment spots within walking distance), the full kitchen, the AMAZING claw foot bathtub, and for real, the bed is like sleeping in a huge puffy cloud that swallows the best of insomniacs into a belly of restorative slumber. It was really clean and we enjoyed french press coffee on the porch every morning as well as walks in the evening around the lazy neighborhood overgrown with roses and all other kinds of Portland flora. She had a really great binder filled with food and attractions with her personal reviews as well as books on Portland, fresh towels and chocolate waiting when we arrived. Everything was super easy and while we didn't get a chance to meet, her instructions and getting into the place were really simple. Everything was easy, comfortable, beautiful and welcoming and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone. In regards to noise, it was really minimal. Every once in a while the upstairs roommate's adorable dog would go scampering across the floor or someone would move a chair, but as much as I've traveled, I would put the noise at a 2 on a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being really loud or constant). All the neighbors were super friendly, helpful and respectful. I'd especially recommend it for a romantic getaway or peaceful retreat. Really, really loved it and appreciated what a great host Sydney was.

I've traveled and lived abroad several times in Thailand, Vietnam, Nicaragua, and almost all the countries of Europe. I look forward to meeting you all!
