The Space

You will love this recently built comfy, one bedroom cottage located in Montecito, one and a half miles from the beach and three miles to the beautiful city of Santa Barbara. The cottage sits on a one acre property studded by oak trees. The living area has sky lights, a queen sofa bed, and a 37 inch flat screen TV. Adjacent is the dining area and the galley kitchen equipped with a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, coffee machine and espresso maker. You'll find cooking utensils and pots and pans when you feel like having a home cooked meal.

The bedroom has a comfy king size bed, large dresser and a love seat. The bathroom has a shower, a large closet (where you'll find a hair dryer and iron) and lots of natural light.

The upper Montecito village is a five minute walk where you'll find restaurants, boutiques, a Cafe/bakery, and a grocery store. Drop by for a glass of wine at the famous San Isidro Ranch, which is a few minutes up the road. You will also have access to nearby walking and hiking trails..

The cottage has a unique location, with very little street traffic, perfect for a quiet getaway. The Montecito Village is less than a half mile away. You can also get fresh bagels and muffins at Pierre Lafond's bakery/deli. A range of other restaurants are located about a mile and a half away in Montecito's "Lower Village".

  • This place is in a nice quiet neighborhood and close to the beach.
The cottage is well maintained and was perfect for our family of 3. Eileen and Gerry were terrific hosts who also gave us tons of useful information about the area!

    Would definitely recommend their place.

  • Eileen & Gerry are great. Very friendly & helpful. We stayed for an entire week and Eileen conveniently brought us fresh towels midway through our stay. The location is very convenient to downtown Montecito and the beach. We spent a lot of time at Miramar beach which is about 3 minutes away by car. It's supposed to be a private beach but really isn't. The neighborhood is very quite. The cottage is very nice and is exactly as pictured. The only issue we had was with the refrigerator not being cold and some food spoiling. The cottage was clean and in very good condition.

  • Let me start by saying I didn't stay here. I booked the room for my wedding so my friends had a place to stay. Eileen could not have been helpful and sweet. My friends that stayed here said she was incredibly friendly and kind. The fridge was stocked with stuff. It was very charming with lots of natural light and very comfy beds. The cottage is in a GREAT location. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to stay here.

  • We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Eileen and Gary are great hosts. Cottage was stocked for breakfast. There was a wine bottle in the refrigerator left to welcome us too. The location is great, just a few minutes away from 101. Gary was available on phone and is right next door if we needed to get in touch.
I would definitely stay here next time.

    Few nitpicks:
Bed is 2 twins joined together. It was a bit short for us since we are 5'10"+
Bagles provided for breakfast in the refrigerator have gone bad and luckily I noticed the fungus on one of the bagles before I heated them.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Eileen and Gerry's cottage. Eileen and Gerry were incredibly considerate and attentive to our needs. The cottage has great natural light which we really appreciated during a very rainy Santa Barbara weekend. The property is conveniently located near the upper village of Montecito and Pierre La Fond which has a great wine bistro and a small market. The cottage is great for a quiet getaway. If you require wifi access, Gerry and Eileen are still working on reliable access inside the cottage. They informed us that it works well just outside the front door. This was not an issue for us as we were still able to search on our phones. We used it as an opportunity to "unplug" a little and spend more time reading and cooking.

  • This cottage is wonderful and the setting is gorgeous, peaceful and just absolutely perfect! This is our first time using Airbnb and it was a completely positive experience. Eileen was very prompt with emails and is also a lovely person. The bed was quite comfortable so we slept very well! My husband & I stayed with our 2 children here and it was a very nice setup for our family. We have found our Santa Barbara getaway!
    Thank you Eileen!!!

  • Eileen and Gerry were lovely hosts and my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in their guest cottage. It was neat and cozy with a wonderful kitchen where we found goodies to make our stay even better. The weather was spectacular and I particularly enjoyed coffee or wine outside at the bistro table amongst the trees and flowers. The cottage is in a quiet location close to the upper village in Montecito and several shops and eateries. I am already trying to figure out a time to go back and stay longer than a weekend.

  • What an lovely hideaway. The cottage is comfortable, private, quiet (except for birdsong and squirrel chatter) and serene. I had a great, productive stay. Hosts explained the set-up clearly, and were available if I needed anything.

  • The owners were generous and welcoming: they offered us a bottle of wine and provided us with everything for breakfast: fruit, coffee, tea, juice, cream cheese, butter, etc.

The neighborhood was quiet. The cottage fairly new. The kitchen and bathroom were nice.

    A few negative points:

    - The place was cluttered and the furniture was old. When the sofa bed was open, there was no room to walk or sit.

    - The sofa bed was old and very uncomfortable even though it was billed as very comfy. Had the owners slept on it, they would not have subjected their guests to this torture.

    - The cleaning left a lot to be desired. Dust covered all the surfaces, carpet, furniture, and appliances. The bedding was stained. We were sneezing and had runny noses until we cleaned everything.

    - The fridge wasn’t working properly and our food went bad within two days.

When these problems are corrected, this will be a great place to stay at.

    Response from Eileen:

As I mentioned to Phil before he arrived, the Sofa-bed was meant to
accommodate kids and not ideal for adults.
In order to make the sofa-bed more comfortable we purchased an aero
mattress. I'm sorry that it still wasn't
comfortable enough for him. The fridge has been fixed.
It is unfortunate that he seemed to have some problems with our cottage as
he is the ONLY guest thus far that
has had any complaints . All other guests have nothing but positive things
to say and some even plan to
    come back!

  • Gerry and Eileen were great hosts! This was our first experience with Airbnb, and we are definitely excited to use it for our future travels. We stayed in their cottage for whole week spanning over the 4th of July. They were prompt and prepared to accept a last minute recommendation and were very accommodating to any needs or questions that we had. Would definitely recommend them if you are looking for a cozy, quiet getaway with quick driving access to Santa Barbara. Wi-Fi access is limited to the patio outside the cottage, but it is so peaceful and beautiful outside, why sit inside anyway?

My husband Gerry & I moved from the Washington D.C. area after more than 30 years working for the Foreign Service, with assignments in the Caribbean, South America, Africa & Europe. Gerry was raised in Santa Barbara so we decided to retire here. I speak Spanish and French, understand some Italian. We enjoy walking, good movies and dining out.
