Lovely, inviting, and very private, our chalet is a traveler's dream. We offer location, comfort, tranquility, and a free-standing cottage for the price of a hotel room. We are situated less than a block from the attractions at Fisherman's Wharf, a ten minute walk to downtown and the USA ferry terminals, and a fifteen minute walk to the local/long distance bus stations. The historic James Bay neighbourhood shopping centre, with its myriad coffee shops, book and curio stores, and 24 hour grocery store, is also a five minute walk. The University of Victoria and Camosun College are a quick and easy bus or bike ride away.
Sunny and bright, the chalet features: 16 foot vaulted ceilings, oak floors, skylights, french doors opening out onto a large south-facing deck, kitchenette suitable for light cooking (convection oven, microwave, rice cooker, slow cooker, toaster, coffee maker, outdoor barbeque),separate private bedroom as well as sleeping loft. Interaction with Guests
While we love to share our travel experiences with guests, we also understand that you are not in Victoria to visit US!.. We are always available for a chat, coffee, or for local area information, but will never encroach on your space. Whether for a day or a month, the chalet is YOUR home, and we will respect it as such.
No smoking please, and shoes off inside.... VERY IMPORTANT... DO NOT LOCK DOOR WHEN CHECKING OUT.. PLEASE LEAVE KEY ON KITCHEN TABLE.
What a charming home! We stayed here in July and it was so nice to listen to the ocean birds and feel the breeze. The shower is awesome!
Michael seems like a very nice man. The cottage is within walking distance to the warf, parks and downtown.
The furniture and art in the AirBnB photo is not the current furniture and art in the cottage nor is the cottage a chalet or seaside.
The small kitchen area is suited for simple meal preparation but not for cooking a meal. There is a small fenced in back yard for travelers with pups.
Thanks Vicki. Hope you enjoyed Victoria. FYI - We've upgraded the furniture and artwork and also updated the photos since Vicki booked the chalet. The former (uncomfy) sofabed/couch has been replaced with a comfy sofabed couch. The kitchen has everything a regular kitchen has except for an actual baking oven. We also have a barbecue available on request. The ocean is a block away on one side and three blocks away on the other - I think that makes the description "seaside" fairly accurate and it sounds a lot nicer than "ocean in the general vicinity." Finally, a chalet, according to Google dictionary, is a building made of wood with a heavy gently sloping roof native to Alpine regions. Our chalet/cottage is made of wood, has a heavy, gently sloping roof, and the mountains are within viewing distance.
Thank you Michael for allowing us to stay in your centrally located cabin! It was very cute and handy to all the destinations in the inner Harbour (15-20 min walk). Fishermans wharf is amazing and just a couple minute walk. Cute park, lovely cheap eats and seals and otters to feed. The accommodations were comfortable and adorable. He included everything you'd need in the kitchen plus extras like spices and in true bathroom, nail polish remover. Thanks! If stay again.
The stay at the chalet was beautiful and extraordinary for us. The chalet had everything we need and more than also it was closed to downtown of Victoria and Fisher's wharf as well as convinient facilities. Michael was very communicative and welcoming us. We can also light cook and wonderful shower. I recommend Michael's chalet!
My children and I spent 5 nights at Michael's chalet by the sea, and found the chalet to be quite charming, quiet and safe. The chalet is within walking distance to all the sights in Victoria, and Michael and his family made us feel welcome with a guide to all the local shops and restaurants and also offered some tips for what the kids would enjoy. We would stay there again.
The chalet is in a beautiful, calm neighbourhood, very close to Fisherman's wharf and downtown Victoria. If you arrive by car, parking is free on the street and spots are always available.
The place is very nice, it was very clean and neat.
This was my first airbnb experience, so I was very unsure how things are working. I contacted the host Michael in advance via airbnb message, to ask for a good time to arrive and pick up the keys but never got a reply.
When we arrived the chalet was open and ready for us.
However, I wanted to use the second bed and it was difficult getting a hold of our hosts to ask for a second set of sheets.
Also, just the sheet alone once I got it was too cold for the night, so I used the cover from the bed for the second night.
All in all, I cannot confirm the previous reviews about receiving a warm welcome from the hosts, but once I got a hold of them they where very friendly.
We really enjoyed staying there!
The stay at the chalet was great! Michael was communicative via messages, available in person for questions and tips, and was overall welcoming to make it an enjoyable stay. It was just me for the three nights, so the chalet was plenty spacious. The space was quiet, bed was comfortable, and the lighting and ambiance was peaceful. The mountain bikes aren't in top condition but worked well for getting around and even a trek all the way out to Butchart Gardens! Definitely recommended!
