MIDWEEK MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S SPECIAL..... $69.00 .... JUNE 18/19 ONLY! INCLUDES FREE MOUNTAIN BIKE USE.
Lovely, inviting, and very private, our chalet is a traveler's dream. We offer location, comfort, tranquility, and a free-standing cottage for the price of a hotel room. We are situated less than a block from the attractions at Fisherman's Wharf, a ten minute walk to downtown and the USA ferry terminals, and a fifteen minute walk to the local/long distance bus stations. The historic James Bay neighbourhood shopping centre, with its myriad coffee shops, book and curio stores, and 24 hour grocery store, is also a five minute walk.
Sunny and bright, the chalet features: 16 foot vaulted ceilings, oak floors, skylights, french doors opening out onto a large south-facing deck, kitchenette suitable for light cooking (convection oven, microwave, rice cooker, slow cooker, toaster, coffee maker, outdoor barbeque),separate private bedroom as well as sleeping loft with full-sized mattress above the living room, comfy furniture and mattress, storage for bicycles on site with laundry option next door. There are two on-site high speed wireless internet networks and cable flatscreen tv is provided as well as a dvd player and a reasonable selection of movies.
Michael and Yuki (the hosts) live next door and can offer local tips on VIctoria along with restaurant/entertainment suggestions.
Please send us an enquiry even if it looks like the chalet is booked! Quite often we have cancellations or alterations that don't make it to the calendar before you do!
NEW FOR 2014: MIX AND MATCH BOOKINGS SPECIAL: If the chalet is full for part of your stay, you can combine the booking with our Seaside Loft at Fisherman's Wharf (next door) and save 10% off the total bill!
Guests have free access to common laundry facilities next door, mountain bike use, common driveway for loading and unloading. We happily welcome children traveling with parents to use our netted trampoline (we live next door) and assorted outdoor toys, balls and bats (not the cave-dwelling kind!!).
While we love to share our travel experiences with guests, we also understand that you are not in Victoria to visit US!.. We are always available for a chat, coffee, or for local area information, but will never encroach on your space. Whether for a day or a month, the chalet is YOUR home, and we will respect it as such.
The place in James Bay was great. Easy to find, a nice stroll into downtown Victoria, nice and clean and quiet. Michael was around to let me in and give me any info I needed. Was a good place to stay for the two days while I was in town.
Great house and location! Michael was an excellent host, the house was great as a base for the 4 of us (2 kids) to explore the city and, from what we heard from others in Victoria, it beat a hotel...all for a great price. Quiet neighborhood but close to lots of amenities. We will return if we head back that way in the near future.
Great place in James Bay, a short walk downtown and the terminals for the Victoria Clipper and the Port Angeles Ferry. We enjoyed our stay. Michael was friendly and communicative over chat (though we never actually met in person).
This is a charming little Chalet, steps away from Fisherman's Wharf and a quick (15 mins) walk to downtown. It's VERY clean, well kept and tastefully decorated. The living area is spacious and the open concept kitchen, while small, works well and has all the kitchenware you need for light meals.
The Bedroom is open to the living space, this works well for a couple (I am not sure how comfortable it would be for friends sharing the space), and has a very comfortable bed and a good size storage/closet space. Again, perfect for a couple.
Washroom is super cute, well designed and shower is strong. There is no hairdryer, so bring your own if you need one.
There is also a really nice little deck, outside space, private use only for Chalet guests.
Michael was a great host, easy to communicate with, answered all my questions and very helpful. He gave us some great restaurant and Victoria recommendations and was helpful and kind.
There are also bicycles which are free for guests to use.
I'd definitely stay here again and highly recommend this place.
Hi Kattrin.. Thanks for the great review... Looking back at the bookings, I see where the mistake was made. We had "Kattrin" and "Karen" on the same day and I confused the names (I think I even called you Karen in an email!). Nevertheless, I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay... Please come and stay longer next time! Michael
We enjoyed our stay at the chalet. It's a ten minute walk from the ferry terminal, which allowed us to leave our car behind. One of our destinations, Butchart Garden, is about 13 miles away, but with public transport (bus #75 behind the Empress) one could leave from the chalet and be at the garden in less than 90 minutes. Round trip it's $5 cn.
Anyway, it's a cute place, convenient to town, and Robert was very helpful. Highly (website hidden): we discovered the Maritime Museum downtown, which is not well advertised, but should be. It's a real gem of a museum. Go, see what you think...
Hi Larry... so sorry we didn't connect, but I usually take that is a compliment, meaning you're out exploring. I'm happy you touched base at the Maritime museum. An old friend of mine is the curator and really puts a lot of time and effort into what is essentially a volunteer position.
As for the (small) critters, we had a couple of women in the chalet before you who had invited one of the neighborhood kitties inside (missed their own cat!!). I think she might have brough some fleas in with her so we'll take your advice on that. We also have a raccoon family in the neighborhood, so you probably heard some territorial North Korea-South Korea-style negotiations going on, or the aforementioned neighborhood cats, who really don't like each other very much.
Sorry to be so long-winded, but if you're up this way again, we'd love to host you and can set you up on some great cycling opportunities.. Thanks again, Michael
Chalet in the backyard of Michael and Yuki's home, very nice and clean. Located in a quiet neighboorhood, yet close to downtown and close to the ocean side. We could borrow their bikes anytime we wanted, and got some good advice on where to go!
Cute and cozy place. Thanks for a comfortable stay!
The chalet was just as expected. It appears to be converted from a garage and is pretty adorable. The little private deck was wonderful in the sunshine! The kitchen was small but functional, with everything needed to whip up a nice breakfast. The place was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, we never got to cross paths with the host, Michael, but we did stay in touch during out trip and questions and requests were responded to promptly. The neighbourhood was lovely and quiet, but also in very easy walking distance to the water and downtown Victoria. Overall, a delightful place to stay. Thank you!
Michael and Yuki were perfect hosts. We showed up on their door step early and they graciously let us stash our bags while we explored the city until Check in time. The Chalet is very nicely located. Michael gave us some great coffee and restaurant suggestions.
When you say there, don't forget to check and see if any cruise ships are in! Heading south gives you a nice walk with good views of the massive cruise ships and it's a very pleasant view.
Michaels place is conveniently located ( about 15 minute easy walk into town),very cozy and we really enjoyed our stay there and on Vancouver Island
