The space
This 1960 Donald Wexler designed home will win you over immediately with its architecture, interiors, location and stunning mountain views.

An exterior renovation and interior update of this beautiful, roomy and light filled Mid-Century home in 2015 has restored its streamlined elegance and discreet glamour. Featured is the indoor/outdoor living espoused by this renowned architect who is revered by Palm Springs visitors and residents alike. Additionally, it has been completely refurnished with luxury modern furniture, art and amenities. To be sensitive to the environment, a large solar array was added to the house in mid- 2017.

The home’s location, in the historic Movie Colony, is within a few blocks of the Uptown Design District of Palm Springs, which contains some of the nicest shops and restaurants in the city. The house is also steps away from Ruth Hardy Park, a large tree covered park which offers 8 tennis courts, basketball and volleyball, a children’s play area, a wellness park with workout stations, jogging paths and dog friendly play areas. The house is also convenient to the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Desert Sky Pad has south and west exposures providing inspiring views of the San Jacinto Mountains, spanning the range from North to South Palm Springs, and can be viewed through walls of floor to ceiling glass slider doors from all bedrooms and the living/dining spaces, with no power lines to obstruct the amazing views.

This exceptional modern luxury vacation home with approximately 2,950 square feet of interior living space, has an expansive open floor plan with polished Terrazzo tile floors, sandblasted wood ceilings, and a large and welcoming fireplace. Walls of glass sliders in every room open up to the gorgeous outdoor spaces and incredible mountain views.

This outstanding home also features a wireless sound system, and in-wall speakers throughout the main living spaces. Numerous ceiling fans and a 4 zone HVAC system ensures year round comfort in all rooms. The home is equipped with Apple TV and Chromecast on all the televisions with complimentary Netflix and HBO, as well as WIFI and local land-line phone service. The WIFI extends to the outdoor lounge spaces including the pavilion. Each bedroom also has an independent Bose Soundlink Bluetooth speaker for personal enjoyment.

The large 2 car garage also houses the laundry area, and has extra storage. There is room for an 6 additional vehicles to park in the driveway, though street parking is always available.

Desert Sky Pad has been furnished to reflect a minimal aesthetic, yet its interior and exterior spaces are both warm, comfortable and visually appealing. Commissioned art, notably a hand-painted series of blue dots on the dining wall, pop into view from many angles inside and outside of the house – a playful contrast to the linear architecture and quieter furnishings. Dimmable lighting throughout the house ensures a warm ambiance at night and let's you set the mood for your evenings.

The spacious living area is perfect for entertaining. It features 2 large Minotti sectional sofas as well as 2 roomy leather occasional chairs along with a large ottoman. There is also a 48 inch flat screen TV, so it can serve as a second media room for larger groups. A bold, sculptural gas fireplace delineates the living area from the dining area, which comfortably seats 10 guests. Both the living and dining spaces boast fantastic views of the outdoor pool area and the mountains. A desk and charging station near the front entry provides 1 of 2 workplaces for guests.

There is a large and comfortable media room and this room also has a bar with seating for 4, an ice maker, new beverage cooler, sink, and a new Fisher and Paytel dishwasher. Get comfortable on the media room’s large sofa with friends and family to watch a movie, enjoy a sporting event, or stream your favorite Netflix programming on the large 65 inch flat screen smart TV.

The media lounge has two lighted ceiling fans and is open and adjacent to the airy kitchen, which has another newly installed dishwasher, a new side by side refrigerator with in-door filtered water and ice maker, microwave and oven with cook top range. There are cabinets galore for storage, and the kitchen is fully equipped for any entertaining from casual barbeques to stylish dinners.

Desert Sky Pad offers 4 bedrooms, all with lighted ceiling fans, mountain views and direct access to the beautiful outdoor spaces. There are 3 full bathrooms. The master and 4th bedroom are ensuite with their own private baths. The master suite is a luxe retreat that features a Minotti king size bed, a 42 inch flat screen TV and a wall of mirrored sliding door closets. There is also a beautiful desk providing a 2nd location for working remotely. The master bathroom, featuring calming green glass tile, is sleek and modern and offers a tiled walk-in shower, soaking tub for 2, and dual sinks. The master bath also features a TOTO Bidet toilet.

Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a large bathroom featuring a stone tiled shower and a double sink with 2 faucets. Both bedrooms have lighted ceiling fans and feature 42 inch flat screen TV’s and come equipped with California king size beds. Bedroom 4 also has a lighting ceiling fan and is equipped with a queen size bed, a 30 inch flat screen TV, and features an updated ensuite bathroom.

Each bedroom contains an extra set of sheets and there are numerous bath towels for each guest.

Desert Sky Pad underwent a complete renovation of it's outdoor spaces in 2015. Led by the home’s owner with an architectural and design team, the mission was to create a fully modern outdoor play space that would complement and highlight Wexler's Mid-Century modernist architecture.

Featured prominently outside is the sparkling and multi-colored LED lit swimming pool and spa with a waterfall. Surrounded by views, the adjacent sun deck and oversized 8 person spa with extra powerful spa jets creates a transporting and magical experience. Numerous pool towels and lounging cushions are available for your use.

In addition, a new, modern outdoor living/dining pavilion with a large remote controlled sheer solar shade affords you and your guests’ a respite from the afternoon sun while still allowing for spectacular views as you lounge under the pavilion. Two remote controlled lighted ceiling fans, 360 degree misting system, 2 comfortable sofas and a dining table with seating for 8 provides a chic, protected area for gathering, lounging or dining during the day or evening.

There is a Kitchen Aid gas grill and a stainless service counter by the pavilion, so you are steps away from serving your guests at the outdoor table. A large outdoor fire feature warms the pavilion on cooler evenings.

Walls of Ficus, palm trees, beautiful desert landscaping, and an iconic Wexler designed east property wall surround you in your private vacation oasis. SPA HEAT: There is no additional charge for use of the spa/heat which you can turn on as desired. Please allow 30 minutes to 2 hours (depending on ambient temperature) for spa to reach heated temperature up to 102.

POOL HEAT: Unlike most other rentals, pool heat is included up to about 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Please take that into account as you browse other listings. In an effort to be energy efficient, we ask that if you do not desire to use the pool, that you inform us so we may turn down the pool heat.

HOLIDAYS: Thanksgiving and Christmas 2018 and New Years 2018/2019 have a 4 night minimum and a holiday nightly rate of $1600 per night, plus taxes, if any. This higher rate is waived for weekly or monthly rentals that include those specific holidays.

MUSIC FESTIVALS: Coachella and Stagecoach Music Festival weekends in 2018 and 2019 have a 3 night minimum and a rate of $1600 per night, plus taxes, if any. In addition, the renter must be 35 or older.

TAXES: Airbnb does not currently provide a way to illustrate and collect the Palm Springs mandatory transient occupancy tax (TOT). This tax is 11.5 percent of the full rental price. PET POLICY - We are open to well trained and house broken dogs 30 lbs or less. Please contact owner to discuss. If approved there is an additional $100 cleaning fee per stay. Also, only one pet per stay is allowed. Owners are required to pickup all dog waste or there will be additional charges to their deposit. Additionally no prolonged barking (in excess of 5 minutes) outside is allowed, and dogs must remain indoors and crated if left unattended at the house.

Location, Location, Location. This home in the highly desired Movie Colony neighborhood of Palm Springs, is steps from Ruth Hardy Park, and a short walk to the Uptown Design District where many of the best shops and restaurants are located. No need to drive after dinner - it's a wonderful walk back to Desert Sky Pad. Restaurants nearby and walkable include: Workshop, Cheeky's, Birba, Copleys, Purple Palm at the Colony Palm Hotel, Jakes, Trio, 849, and Dish among others. Also Kofi is a great spot for morning coffee and pastries and is also a nice walk from the house.

Hi everyone. I live in San Francisco. Throughout my career, mostly in the tech world, I've built or remodeled many homes and other projects and my home in Palm Springs is my latest project. During a visit to PS in 2014, for Modernism Week (in Nov & Feb. and highly recommended) I fell in love with this wonderful home, built in 1960. It was designed by Donald Wexler, an influential Mid-Century architect who had previously worked for Richard Neutra. He went on to design houses, schools, hotels, banks and the Palm Springs International Airport. Of note, he designed the 1964 home for Dinah Shore which was purchased by Leonardo DiCaprio in 2014. I'm a fan of modern contemporary and mid century design and architecture. In this home I've tried with the remodel, furnishings and art, to create a feeling of: Hip, Minimal and Warm - that's what I like and I hope you will too.
