About this listing
Casa Facinas is situated on the edge of the pretty and peaceful village of Facinas, 17km from Tarifa on the edge of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park. The beautiful unspoilt beaches of Bolonia and Punta Paloma as well as the famous windsurf and kitesurf centres of Valdevaqueros and Los Lances are all close by. The village has a number of fantastic restaurants as well as all the shops, banks and amenities needed for a relaxing holiday.
The house has recently been completely refurbished to a high standard using natural materials. The open plan living area is ideal for dining and lounging whilst upstairs the second bedroom opens out onto a spacious terrace with breathtaking views across La Janda plain to the distant towns of Benalup and Medina Sedonia. Perfect for barbecues and al fresco living.
Facinas is a wonderfully peaceful place and a perfect base from which to explore the area. The village itself boasts some of the best restaurants in the area and at weekends they are often overflowing with visitors from the neighbouring towns. There are fantastic opportunities for walking and cycling in the hills behind Facinas, with prehistoric cave paintings, forests and waterfalls to be discovered and explored.
Whilst being a quieter alternative to the busy nightlife centre of Tarifa, Facinas is also closer to the areas's most popular beaches. Nearest is the amazing beach at Bolonia where you can wander around the impressive Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia before dining on fish straight out of the sea! A little further south is the natural paradise of Punta Paloma followed by the stunning bay of Valdevaqueros and the long kitesurf mecca of Los Lances.
The nearest main town of Tarifa has something for everyone. Wander around the labyrinthine streets of the old town and shop in the many stylish boutiques, explore the medieval castle, eat in one of the myriad tapas bars and restaurants or dance the night away. Whale watching tours into the straits of Gibraltar leave daily and Morocco is only 35 minutes away by ferry; lunch in Tangier is a fun way to spend a day. For those that fancy a late night out, taxis run all night to get you back to Facinas.
Head northwest and you soon reach the stunning hilltop Moorish town of Vejer de la Frontera which has been declared a national monument. Overlooking the Las Breñas national park, the beaches of Los Caños de Meca and El Palmar, and Cape Trafalgar, it is a fantastic place to spend a day exploring the medieval old town with its tiny cobbled streets, tapas bars, shops and historic buildings including the original castle which in parts dates back to the 10th Century.
The beaches near Facinas are all unspoilt, clean and spacious even in the middle of summer. The area is famous for windsurfing and kitesurfing and it is easy to arrange lessons if necessary. Other activities that are offered locally include horse-riding, mountain biking, rock climbing and scuba diving. The nearest golf courses are at Montenmedio or Benalup, or, heading in the other direction, the many courses of the Costa del Sol start at Alcaidesa, all 45 minutes away.
