My partner and I are very well travelled and understand that it is the little things that make people want to return.
We welcome musicians, cyclists, walkers and anyone who is looking for something a bit different in a bed and breakfast establishment.
Our stay with Numi and Charles was delightful. The family were welcoming and hospitable. The breakfast taken in the garden and in the salon was delicious. Mum and myself enjoyed sightseeing in the local area and going to childhood places.
The Plough Inn,Sleights and Mr.Chips in Whitby were to be recommended. We also spent time at the abbey in Whitby enjoying seaside drama courtesy of the Whitby players, fun for all ages!
Woodlands is a very special and unique place where you can sit in the garden and listen to the birdsong, hear the steam train rolling by or wander the pathways and discover Charles' fountain!
A hidden gem in the foothills of North Yorkshire
Many thanks Numi and Charles for our most enjoyable stay. You are very welcoming and helpful hosts, nothing was too much trouble, and the cooked breakfasts on the terrace were excellent! We slept well in your comfortable beds, and loved the peaceful location near Whitby with great views from the bedroom across your garden to the lush valley beyond.
We had a lovely stay. Numi and Charles were very welcoming, friendly and relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel at home. We had tea and biscuits in the garden on arrival, if we were feeling more active we could have played badminton, but instead we just took their rowing boat for a small row along the river. Numi prepared a lovely French style breakfast with crepes, fresh fruit and croissants. In summary, a splendid stay, which felt much longer than one night (in a good way!). Thank you.
We had a fantastic time with Numi and Charles at their beautiful home. The location is fantastic, five minutes away from Whitby in lovely countryside with easy access to the river. Breakfast was taken out in the garden every morning and really set us up for the day ahead. They were great company when we wanted it but were also happy to leave us to our own devices - we could come and go as we pleased and it never felt like we were imposing on them. And of course there were the cats - it really made my wife's holiday being able to fuss them when they were around! We would definitely recommend a visit.
Thank you to Numi and Charles for a lovely stay in your unique and interesting home. We stayed for 1 night over the bank holiday, during a trip to Whitby. We were greeted by Numi who offered us a cup of tea, before we settled into the room. The room was peaceful, stylish, clean and with a lovely bookcase full of books and a view over the gardens. The room is private, as is the mezzanine where we ate. We were recommended a local restaurant by the hosts and it was perfect, called the Forge. We were asked when we would like breakfast and this flexibility was nice and quite different to the experience of being in a big hotel. The flexible check out was also nice, so we didn't feel rushed. We had a big English breakfast which was very tasty, as well as fresh coffee and croissants. We took a walk in the gardens with encouragement from the hosts and this was lovely, to take in the countryside. We enjoyed the relaxed feel of the trip too including the cats. If you are looking for somewhere only minutes from Whitby (we were only minutes from the park and ride), but with the tranquility of the country, that offers a relaxing and unique stay away, then this is for you. We didn't go walking this time, but would like to return and make the most of some of the walks nearby as the area is stunning. We definitely hope to return and thanks again, Hannah and David.
A delightful period property on the edge of Whitby. Numi & Charles are doing a great job of restoring and adding to the charms of both house and garden. Both are sociable and helpful, without being intrusive.
Lovely room, well behaved cats, and enjoyable full breakfast. Sorry that we only had one night there, and that the weather prevented us enjoying the gardens.
Numi and Charles were wonderful, and their house is absolutely beautiful. They were incredibly welcoming, so much that it felt more like we were staying with family than a BnB.

We moved to Whitby twenty five years ago from London, as we were looking for the "Better life"..and found it!
Whitby has been a fabulous place for our daughter to grow up, and she moved to London to study sculpture at Art School, just like I did when I was her age..small world! She is back temporarily to run our Creperie in the basement with her partner, - it serves the best coffee in Whitby, and you do not even have to leave the building to get it!
We treat people as we like to be treated when we are travelling,-well and with as much local knowledge as possible. We can book restaurants, pamper sessions, arrange mechanics for car problems, visits to local sites of interest..anything to make your stay with us memorable.
My background is in fashion/interior design, and my partner is a musician/photographer, so we have a wide range of interests, and are quite imaginative when it comes to making suggestions for great days out.
We have made good friends with people who have come to stay with us, and some of our guests feel that they have a "home away from home" in Whitby, - they arrive as guests and leave as friends.
It wasn’t until one of our prospective guests asked if we provided soap in our bnb, that I realised that what we do and how we do it, is a complete mystery, if you haven’t stayed with us before.
Charles and I are very experienced world travellers and have had enough bad breakfasts at so called 5-Star hotels to know how to do it properly!
Our self catering apartment above the shop, have Welcome Packs with red or white wine, plus we supply everything we think that you may need to make your stay splendid.
For our Bed and Breakfast accommodation in Sleights, we use bacon and sausages from Jacksons of Ruswarp ( a fabulous local butcher about five minutes away)free range eggs, real Heinz baked beans, good quality chestnut mushrooms, lovely tomatoes etc for our Full English. The jams and marmalades are top quality, and we only use English butter.
For people with a lesser appetite, we offer porridge, Fruits of the Forest compote and Greek yoghurt, croissants, and any combination of the Full English with scrambled eggs. The cereals are all proper brands, not just sawdust in the bottom of the box! We cater for vegetarians, and vegans, and if you have special dietary requirements, we can generally offer something to fit the bill.
We ran a successful Creperie in Whitby for six years, and if booked ahead, I can offer crepes for breakfast with an assorted of fillings.
That’s the food covered.
Our rental accommodation is the West wing of the house, which is (email hidden)ere is a mezzanine area overlooking Woodlands for having breakfast, which also has a kettle and tea making facilities for use over night. The large bedroom has two vintage European sized single beds, with custom made mattresses, that are soooo comfortable. The bedroom overlooks the garden, and there is a huge bookcase with a selection of really interesting literature.
When the weather permits, I serve breakfast in the garden, on the terrace, where you can watch the steam train go by, and Herons flying down the river.
Our tv has Free Sat and there is free WiFi, if you need to be in touch with the outside world.
Charles recreated an Art Deco bathroom, which has original Royal Doulton fittings, and a properly sized bath, with shower over.
Yes we supply soap, good quality shampoo and conditioner, bubble bath etc, and the towels are nice and fluffy.
Our guests can walk in the garden, or down by the river, play Badminton on the lawn, play with the cats (of which there are four)and just relax as we have a fantastic view over the beautiful Esk Valley.
We have contacts in all the local bars and restaurants, and can make suggestions and arrange bookings for you.
We treat our guest how we would like to be treated, and we find that personal recommendation is the best form of advertising.
