The Space

The master suite in my third floor (no elevator) condo is spacious, light, quiet and welcoming. Queen bed for your comfort.

You are welcome to share living space with Thriller, the black cat, and me. Additionally, Patrick is here to work early each morning. Other bnb guest on Fri,Sat.Sun. (they share my bath, you have your private bath)

Dolores Park, Mission Dolores, the trendy Valencia Street corridor are all just over a block away. Lots of new and established restaurants near by including Delfina, Tartine Bakery, and so many others.

Walk to the Castro, Noe Valley and more.
This is a transportation-rich area.
J-Church Muni line is 1.5 blocks away,
BART is an easy walk, buses abound.
The F-Line is an easy walk to Market Street. Take it to Fisherman's Wharf (do get off for a visit to the Ferry Building at the foot of Market St. Locals are seen here rather than at the Wharf or Pier 39 :) Old and imported street cars travel above ground (as opposed to BART and the J-Church,etc. which go underground on Market St.) The Embarcadero is very lively. It's where you depart to Alcatraz and to other ferry destinations.

SF water is need to buy bottles. Our HetchHetchy/Yosemite water tests better than most paid-for-by-the-bottle water. I never use a filter and always drink from the faucet.
SF weather is variable. By which I mean it changes from minute to minute, street to street.
FAR TOO MANY visitors have to buy extra layers here to be comfortable (yes, even in summer - in fact,
especially in summer when the fog rolls in -
it's why Mark Twain is quoted as having said "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!)

Parking - Hoff St x 17th is one of the closest. You might check parkopedia ap as well.

Other Things to Note

Please do bring at least a windbreaker.
2014 is windy and chilly, at least some of the time. I carry/wear my light-weight down parka most of the time - honestly.

  • Very nice room with an even nicer host. Everything was just as we had wished for. Jan gave us lots of information and advice. At the same time, she was very relaxed and we could spend the day as it pleased us. Thanks again!

  • My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights at Jan's place near the end of June and had a great experience. The room was very comfortable, clean and quiet. Jan is an amazing host! She has a lot of great recommendations for walks and things to do around the city. The location of the apartment is excellent as well, so close to a lot of amazing places in the Mission and also easy to take transit. I would highly recommend staying here!

  • To say that Jan was hospitable would be an injustice and an understatement. We enjoyed many wonderful conversations over coffee and champagne. Thriller (the cat) made sure that we felt comfortable in the beautifully appointed home. We would not hesitate a second before staying with this wonderful lady once more.

  • I absolutely loved my stay with Jan! She was warm and engaging, and as a single traveler it was nice to have interesting conversations with her while I was drinking my tea in the morning. The room was very comfortable - the bed was great, and there is plenty of closet space. And Thriller the cat was awesome! The location of Jan's unit can't be beat - it is right on the edge of the Mission and the Castro right by Delores Park, and the restaurants just on her block alone (Delfina, Tartine, Bi Rite Creamery and Delores Park Cafe) were all fantastic - you could eat amazingly well for a weekend and never leave the block. But she is only a few blocks from Valencia and all of those businesses, bars and restaurants. The J line Church stop at 18th is a quick 5 minute walk away, and the Castro is an easy walk as well. Again, loved my experience and would (WILL!) definitely be back.

  • Jan was a wonderful hostess, her apartment and our room were excellent and the neighbourhood was perfect for dining and access to all of San Francisco. I have no hesitation in recommending here to anyone wanting to visit San Francisco; we stayed for 9 night and it was at least a month too short a time. It is in a nice residential area, very close to Dolores Park, and an easy walk to the Bart Underground/Metro where it is very simple to access Union Square and all the wonderful shopping areas. We will definitely be staying with her and Thriller, her adorable cat, in the not too distant future.

  • Everything was great! Although I was out exploring for most of my days, my interactions with Jan were pleasant. She is very welcoming and friendly. The location is close to public transportation, great food, and in a great neighborhood overall. A friend of mine who was also visiting San Francisco and used to live there told me I found a great spot. He was right! I would definitely stay there again.

  • We were delighted that we stayed at Jan's place. She is a very gracious host and made our stay in the San Francisco area all the more enjoyable. Her place is tastefully decorated. The master suite is very comfortable and it was fun to be able to relax in the living room when we needed some down time from seeing the sites. The location of Jan's place is great for food and transportation, too. And her cat Thriller is an added bonus! We highly recommend her place! Ken and Mary Anne

  • We felt really comfy at Jan’s place. Not only is she a caring host, it is also fun to discuss all sorts of topics with her. Our room was perfect with a walk-in bathroom. We were curious to discover the Mission district, it turned out to be our favorite area in San Francisco. Jan’s apartment is located in a quiet side street, ideally placed around the corner of the popular Café Tartine, Bi-Rite deli with its famous ice cream parlor across the street and Dolores Park with its fantastic views of SF. Mission is a relaxed and hip place with lots of trendy bars, coffee shops and restaurants. It is easy to get around to other areas with public transport.

Welcome to my home! I’ve lived here in my condo on Oakwood St. for over ten years. Fell in love with San Francisco when I was here in college at SF State and have been 'at home' here since. Since landing in SF I’ve traveled regularly, from Germany to Russia, from Vietnam to China. I love to hike, and belong to the Bay Area Ridge Trail. I'd be happy to recommend local hikes, both long and short! Among the things I enjoy are movies, reading, ballet, progressive thought, and conversation - especially over good food and wine, both out and at my table. You'll be comfortable in my home if you're like previous guests and quite happy with the area you've chosen. My neighborhood is lively, centrally located, and provides plenty to do—if you want, I can recommend restaurants, cafes, theatres, shops and more. We'll enjoy chatting if you wish, I'll leave you alone if you want privacy.
