The Space

Located in one of the most fashionable areas of the city with museums, art galleries, shopping, historical architecture and beautiful parks at your doorstep, this stylish penthouse apartment is a gem that combines modern comforts in an environment steeped in history. It has the rare combination of being located in the heart of the city, in the oldest and best preserved neighborhood in Paris, and on the 6th and top floor with an elevator (up to the 5th floor) of a beautiful building which gives the apartment sweeping views over the rooftops of the city and of numerous monuments in the distance, including the Eiffel Tower. The street the apartment is on was created in the 1100s and is one of the most beautiful medieval streets in the city. The apartment is air-conditioned, with a fully-equipped kitchen and modern bathroom.

The apartment was recently renovated: the bathroom, kitchen, and all the appliances are new and of the highest quality, while the original elements of the apartment have been carefully restored, including the antique terracotta floors, and beautiful 18th century oak beams. The apartment is flooded with light due to its southern exposure and two large skylights. The window is equipped with blackout shades and the two large skylights have remote-controlled motorized exterior shades that allow you to easily keep the light out for mornings when you want to sleep late or go to bed early as you adjust to the time change.

The street and neighborhood are full of restaurants, art galleries, and in particular numerous designer clothing boutiques. The shops and restaurants on the street and surrounding area have the distinction of being open on Sundays, which is rare in Paris, keeping the area full of life, and making conveniences such as grocery stores available 7 days a week. The apartment is within walking distance of numerous museums and monuments, including the Picasso Museum, the Carnavalet Museum (the museum of the history of Paris), the beautiful Place des Vosges, and Notre Dame Cathedral. Additionally, it is only a 2 minute walk from the apartment to the St. Paul metro station, which is on Line 1 (the yellow line) that goes through the heart of the city directly to numerous monuments, such as the Musée du Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe. A set of English language architectural walking tours is provided with maps and photographs.

The antique terracotta floor in the bathroom is complemented with pale white glass mosaic tiles on the walls. The smoked-glass window in the bathroom provides both privacy and ample natural light in addition to the embedded ceiling and above-mirror lights. Electrical outlets in the bathroom allow you to plug in rechargeable shavers and toothbrushes (an outlet head adapter is provided - please make sure your appliances function on European 240 volt circuits), and a hairdryer and magnifying mirror are also at your disposal.

The studio has two sleeping areas: a loft bed (140 cm – between a full and queen size bed) under one of the skylights (where you can gaze at the night sky from bed or close the electric exterior shutters for complete darkness). Additionally, there is a large and very comfortable sofa bed (160 cm – between a queen and king size bed) with a thick mattress that feels like a comfortable traditional bed. 2 guests are asked to use one bed. The nightly charge for a 3rd guest also applies to 2 guests who use two separate beds. There is also an antique mirrored wardrobe with hangars and drawers.

The glass cabinets and white stone counter conceal a fully equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher, combination microwave-oven, refrigerator with wine rack, espresso machine, cook top with an aeration hood above it that is perfect for picking up fresh food at local markets or nearby grocers and enjoying in the apartment. It has a dining table expandable for seating up to 4. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need, including plates, glasses, flatware, wineglasses, pots, pans, a toaster and an espresso machine.

The apartment has a HD flat screen television with hundreds of cable channels, including numerous English language news stations such as CNN and BBC. Unlimited high-speed wifi connection is provided, as is a telephone with free international calls to all numbers in the United States, Canada, and landlines in Europe and several other countries.

You will be met upon arrival at the apartment and given a full explanation of how to get the most out of your stay in the apartment as well as assistance in getting oriented to the neighborhood.

The apartment is a non-smoking no-pets apartment.

Please note that 2 and 3-night stays are only accepted when they fill in 2 or 3 nights openings between bookings, or at the last minute.

Wine, flowers, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, espresso, an international electric adapter, and all sheets and towels are provided.

A washer and dryer are available for stays longer than 1 week.

*An adjacent penthouse studio is also available that can sleep an additional 2 people for couples or families traveling together who want to stay in the same building.

  • This is really is a little gem! The view over the old rooftops is absolutely spectacular. It is situated right in the heart of Marais on one of the most beautiful streets in Paris. The traffic is low in this area so we could sit and have breakfast and hear the blackbirds singing.

The appartment is beautifully restored with all the comforts of a modern life, including fast wifi, dishwasher and a modern and stylish bathroom with modern fittings. Please note that this is compact living so it suits two persons best.

Micheal was very helpful and was quick to reply when I had questions. Laurence, who met us at the address, gave us a great start to our stay. She really took time to showed us around in the appartment and gave good tips about Paris. Both speak excellent English.

I warmly recommend this appartment - it really made our stay in Paris special!

  • I stayed with my 15 year old daughter at this apartment and we had a wonderful time. We loved the view from the window and my daughter was very excited that we could see the Eiffeltower, which was a wonderful sight at night.

The room was lovely, very clean and even better than it looked on the pictures. It was great to have the lift as I'm sure the stairs would have been exhausting after so much walking. We loved the location, managed to do most of the sightseeing by walking and also hiring bikes not far from the Apartment.

    It was perfect.

We would recommend this apartment for your stay in Paris.

  • A perfect stay in Le Marais. The apartment is exactly as described in Michael's listing. It was immaculate (and I am fussy!), very clean and beautifully furnished with a lovely mix of old and very hip, modern features. The sofa bed is very comfortable and whilst compact, there is everything that you need in the kitchen area. The shower room is luxurious with endless hot water, fluffy towels and lovely touches like make up pads and tissues provided. Laurence gave us a lovely welcome and made sure we knew everything about the flat and the area. Le Marais is one of our favourite places and the location of Michael's flat couldn't be better. Amazing that it is so quiet yet right on top of the best shops, restaurants and sights. I can't imagine ever choosing to stay in a hotel again, it's so much better to live like une vrai Parisienne! Merci beaucoup, Michael.

  • This was my second time staying at one of Michael's apartments. He's done an amazing job renovating these units - they are well designed, well equipped, always clean and clutter free, and make amazingly good use of limited space. They are also situated on the top floor of a charming old building in the heart of the Marais.

Michael is a gracious and responsive host. Check-in was extremely thorough and smooth (as it was when I rented his other apartment a few months ago) and Michael personally answered a few questions very rapidly by email.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Michael's apartments are charming and have become my favorite choice whenever I have the privilege of spending some time in Paris.

  • So delightful.. A perfect Parisian Garret just like in La Boheme but nicer and modern. The lofted bed was fun (but could be tricky). So clean, lovely and well maintained. Awesome location. Overall great experience and had a delightful stay here! Very attentive host and very professional.

  • The apartment was really perfect for our purposes--it is truly in the heart of the Marais on the mostly pedestrian Rue de Rosiers, surrounded by boutiques and the bits and bobs left of the historically Jewish Marais area. The apartment itself is beautiful and very well-thought out, especially as it offers really all you could need in a small space (as we recently finished a renovation, we are very aware of these things). Michael clearly put significant thought into every detail--the kitchen and bathroom includes top appliances, and the fold out couch which you can use as a bed if you don't want to use the lofted bed feels just like a bed--NOT a fold-out couch. The window overlooks the rooftops of Paris and you can even see the Eiffel Tower. Michael also wrote a series of architectural tours which you can use--we didn't have time, but they seemed very informative and easy to use!
As a host he was extremely easy to work with...he also left us a bottle of wine and flowers, as noted by other reviewers, really personalizing the experience. Overall I would very highly recommend to anyone staying in Paris...100x better than a hotel certainly!!

  • This was the second time we stayed here, and again, it was perfect.
Don't look further, this is the place.
Michael is very helpful and nice, and a better spot in the city is not to be found.
    Wish we lived there!

  • Michael's penthouse apartment is, without question, an ideal place to stay when visiting Paris. Its central location in the Marais allows for easy walking to many attractions, or to save wear and tear on the feet, it is a short way from a Metro station. The attention to detail in this apartment is amazing, as is its style and functionality. Some of the highlights for me included: luxurious shower with rain shower head, two enormous skylights that open/close by remote control, extremely comfortable beds, one of which is a sofa bed that opens and closes in three seconds flat, all the little touches like fresh flowers, well stocked coffee capsules for the Magimix, and a very handy set of Paris walking tour cards designed by Michael himself. The apartment is located on Rue des Rosiers, a classic Parisian street that offers every convenience one would want while traveling. To sum up, this apartment is fantastic in every way.

Michael, the host, is responive to questions, provides suggestions for how to make the most of your trip to Paris, and clearly has a genuine interest in his guests and their well-being.

I will not hesitate to book this apartment again when I next visit Paris (soon I hope).
