Being one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, Yogyakarta has many heritage buildings and monuments. The number one must-see attraction is Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono's palace, better known as Kraton Ngayogyakarta. Other heritage buildings from colonial era are: BNI '46 building, Kantor Pos Besar (Central Post Office) building, and Bank Indonesia building, all of them are located near Sultan's palace.
Yogyakarta is a heaven of inexpensive foods, and some tasty and filling dishes can be had for as low as US$0.25. There are hundreds, if not thousands of hawker stalls offering inexpensive foods.
Yogyakarta is a relatively small city, so travelling around town should not be too expensive. If you are traveling on foot, note that a street sign facing you at a corner indicates the name of the street you are entering, not the cross street. The Tourism Authority has maps in English that can be obtained from its offices next to Hotel Mutiara on Jl. Malioboro, at the airport and the train station. Beware that these maps are not to scale.
What na real surprise we had when we were shown our room. It looked even better than in the photos. Very spacious room&bathroom with lovely tropical decoration and tropical plants in an exotic environment outside. Big bed with soft white bedlinen. A delicious breakfast was brought to our room every morning. Staff were very nice and helpful. However; it was a pity they forgot to tell me about the communcal area with kitchen. I didn't find out until last day. If not we would have had our breakfast there.
Thank you for the great Review & also for staying with us! It's been a pleasure to have you as our guest ! About the Kitchen common area, I'm sorry if our crews didn't mentioned it to you before. I will keep remind them to not forgot to inform all the guest about it. Hopefully you have a great time in Indonesia & hope to see you again in your next trip to JOgja !!
I think living in Tigalima Homestay is a good experience. Nice crew and considerate service.
Although I did not meet Agra, she helped me by giving directions on the phone to the taxi driver. I was met by her mother who was very nice and very helpful. They both speak English well.
I stayed in TigaLima Homestay for two nights. It is a very spacious room with good bed and shower. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is provided to the room. They have about 8 rooms total.
The only problem was the location and access by taxi. TigaLima is located quite far North from the main tourist center close to the university UNY. Thus it's about 4-5km to the palace and Marlioboro Rd. Most taxi drivers don't know the homestay (yet) , which made for difficult access. A ride to the palace is around IDR 30000.
Everything, from service to accommodations, was great. As a young couple, we really liked that Tiga Lima was clean and the location was quiet yet very close to great local food and shopping.
