Before you read the rest of our description, please note that we are only helping people stranded by Hurricane Sandy, and who are in a tough financial situation due to losses from the storm. We would be happy to help you if you are someone who has lost their hotel reservation because all of the hotels are full, or had your flight changed or delayed because of the storm, or suffered damage to your home in NYC and need a temporary place to stay.
We have a spare bedroom in our large Astoria apartment that we are happy to offer to an individual or couple stranded by Sandy. We're also happy to accommodate any marathoners who have been shut out of their hotels. Our apartment is on the N subway line which is up and running into Manhattan.
Please let us know a little bit about yourself, and your situation right now. Air BnB requires that we list a price of $10 for the room, but we have no intention of charging anyone who needs help. If you just book the room for a night, you are welcome to stay longer. We probably can't accommodate anyone for longer than a week or so. We do not normally rent our spare room out - we just want to help out while accommodation in the city is in such short supply.
The picture in the listing is of nearby Astoria park. We are less than a 5 minute walk from the 30th Ave subway station in Astoria.
It was so sweet for them to offer a place to stay when my friend and I were stranded from Sandy. The room was toasty warm and smelled like warm Christmas-- especially when it was snowing outside! Enjoyed our first airbnb experience :)
These two have enormous hearts. They graciously opened their apartment to people affected by Hurricane Sandy and continually volunteer to help those in need. Our flight home from Spain was delayed a week due to the storm, and we were hard-pressed to find a last minute place to stay on a tight budget. Jenna and Ron provided us with everything we needed (and I must say the most comfortable bed we've slept on in awhile!). Thanks a lot, guys!
Jenna and her boyfriend Ron are awesome by opening up their apartment to help those who have been stranded by Sandy. Their apartment was great, homely, cozy, and they made every effort to make my stay comfortable. It's in a good neighborhood, close to subways, buses, and a 15 min cab ride to LaGuardia. Thanks for everything guys.
