Enjoy the quiet and character of one of Vancouver's coolest historic neighborhoods, while having quick access to both downtown Vancouver and downtown Portland!
Large, light-filled private room with queen bed, eating/work table, private bathroom and ample closet/storage space. Semi-private entry and access to laundry facilities and kitchen (there is also a mini-fridge and some food storage space in the room). Large backyard and many pleasant places to walk or bike nearby. Excellent access to public transit for trips both within Vancouver and into Portland.
My place is a unique 1943 house that was built for workers from the nearby Kaiser shipyards during World War II. It has been completely remodeled within the past two years.
Your room is removed enough from the rest of the house that you can have plenty of privacy. But if so inclined, you're also welcome to share the living room for a wood fire on a chilly night or join me in the backyard to enjoy the crickets and have a cool drink on a warm summer evening.
The room can accommodate up to 3 people. But unless the third person is a small child, he or she will need to sleep on a rollaway bed with memory foam mattress (which I provide). I have sheets, pillows and some extra bedding for the rollaway bed, or provide your own. Extra $10 per night for the third person.
House is within a 5-10 minute drive of downtown Vancouver, Vancouver Convention Center, Vancouver Farmers Market, Clark College, Fort Vancouver Historic Site/Officers Row, River Renaissance Trail, PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and Portland International Airport. Grocery shopping and several good restaurants nearby.
Downtown Portland (home of the legendary Powell's Books and Voodoo Donuts!) and the lively Mississippi, Alberta, St. Johns and Williams neighborhoods in north/northeast Portland are within a 15 to 20 minute drive.
I am a medical professional and work at a nearby hospital. My 14-year-old son is with me on some weekends. One or more of my three adult daughters sometimes make a visit.
I love both Portland and Vancouver and know both cities well. I'm happy to offer you recommendations on restaurants, sights and activities. My biggest passion is hiking and if you have some spare time, I'd be delighted to direct you to some of my favorite hikes near the cities or in the spectacular Columbia River Gorge, which is a 25-45 minute drive away.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Henry and his family were the best roommates I've ever had! I stayed with them for an extended time so that I could do an internship in the Vancouver area and they made my time wonderful! The family was so welcoming and friendly, always willing to give me tips on where to go or eat. The room was very comfortable and spacious and I loved the fact that I had a separate entrance so that I didn't have to bother people when I arrived late or left early. The closet in the room is enormous and includes a refrigerator so that you can store food in your space. The kitchen is comfortable and intuitive and the main room is very cozy. I spent many evenings sitting by the fire with this family! But the best part of staying here is Henry, Chris and Lena! They are some of the kindest, most
caring and interesting people you'll ever stay with! I highly recommend this site for short or longer stays!
Henry's place is exactly as described. Close enough to Portland for the fun, yet quiet in Vancouver for the rest you want! The bedroom and bathroom we stayed in at Henry's was extremely clean and comfortable. It was great having a place that felt like home after long days of exploring Portland and Seattle. On our way out of town, we stopped for breakfast at Christine's which is just right down the road. Another place we'd recommend! It would have been great to meet Henry, but we are so appreciative to him for opening his home to us. Thank you again!
Henry's place was located ideally for our needs. We enjoyed staying there very much. We would stay there again!
great place to stay! clean and neat, Henry had everything we needed from towels to dishes. We would definitely stay with him again! The room has easy access to downtown Vancouver and to Portland. The neighborhood was quiet and safe feeling.
I arrived late and was delighted to find a very friendly host and lovely, quiet room and bath. I'm only sorry that I had to leave so soon, it would have been a great place to stay for a few days.
Henry is a gracious gentleman & host! He and his home were a warm & welcome respite from our travels. Although we didn't have much time to visit I felt like we could make ourselves at home with ease. He offers basic accommodations but we wanted for nothing, including a country rustic backyard with lounge chairs for morning or afternoon downtime; that IS a lot of what "vacation" is about for me. Key words: clean, comfy, & cozy !
Also have a "new favorite" coffee from Paper Tiger, 5 minutes away! I'll be ordering via mail "Ethiopian".

Henry was such a gracious host!
When we first arrived he checked in with us to see that we had all we needed and offered up his own space in the kitchen and living room if we wanted to - he made us feel right at home. The room is private and removed from the house, so it was perfect for us, as we get a bit shy in socializing with new people. It was clean and comfy and I really loved seeing the old Sessions memorabilia on the walls.
We would recommend this place to everyone. Henry is a great, friendly host with just the right mix of hospitality and privacy. His house is really a home and we were grateful to have stayed. Wishing you the best Henry!
We enjoyed our stay here. A nice quiet & private spot. Henry was very welcoming and accommodating to our needs for laundry and refrigerator space, after camping for 3 days. A very nice respite in our travels to the North.
Great host, great room, great area!
What a great place to stay! One of the most homey comfortable AirBNB places I've stayed. Henry was warm and welcoming and suggested places to eat. The location was very easy access both for Vancouver and for North part of Portland/airport. The Columbia River is just down the hill with river side dining options. I'd definitely recommend this place to stay.
