A traditional Lakeland cottage next to the River Leven in the famous Lake District National Park. The perfect place to explore the fells or for rest and relaxation.
The house has lots of character, with a real wood burning stove, stone walls and wooden beams throughout. There are lots of local walks, you're a a 5 minute drive from Newby Bridge and an 18 minute drive from Windermere. The National Trust property, Fell Foot Park, is only 10 minutes drive away.
We are well connected for public transport, lying on the route between Ulverston and Windermere the bus stop is a 2-3 minute walk from the house. The Haverthwaite & Lakeside Steam Railway station is just down the road and takes you to Lakeside, where you can enjoy boat trips across to Fell Foot Park or up to Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.
The Whitewater Hotel is just across the road, offering 2 rosette dining and also a riverside bar (we also have a conservatory with views over the river). The Cascades leisure club/pool is also just across the river and can used for £10/day. The Angler's Arms is a short walk away, offering tasty Cumbria dining and real ales. Breakfast is not included although you are more than welcome to make use of the kitchen.
Your room is a double room with lots of character - stone walls, wooden beams and a delightful river view. You can enjoy exclusive use of the feature bathroom, with stone walls, wooden beams and a claw-foot bath for the duration of your stay. There is also a shower room which you can use.
There is also a double sofa bed which can be booked for an extra £15 when booking the double room. Please ask for more details.
Free WiFi. Complimentary loose leaf tea and fresh coffee (bean-to-cup machine).
Free pick up from Ulverston train station, or a nearby location by arrangement, depending on your time of arrival.
There's also a handy village shop just a 5 minute walk away.
Andrew and Alex live in the house along with Basil the friendly Labrador. Always happy to offer local advice whether it's about walking, dining, attractions etc.
Come and visit this beautiful part of the Lake District - we look forward to welcoming you!
We welcome guests as we would friends and family so make yourself at home! Please feel free to ask if you are unsure of anything or need help with something.
A few things we ask are that you are careful not to let our dog out when entering/leaving, not to leave hot cups/mugs on the wooden table/worktops and general common sense stuff - so nothing too draconian!
Alex and Andrew made us welcome . The cottage is small but in a great location. Our dog and Basil got on famously.
Alex was really welcoming, we sat outside the cottage phoning through and she opened the door to us instead of answering the phone. We parked up, had a tour of the cosy cottage (very good description) and sat down for a cuppa. A lovely cottage, lovely people and a great location, I'd recommend taking a walk up into the woods and seeing Morecambe bay.
Alex made us feel really welcome even though we were only staying for one night. The location is really beautiful! Thank you guys!
Both Alex and Andrew were very welcoming. Everything even exceeded what was in the description: they took us from the station, the house was lovely and their dog Basil was very entertaining.
Location of the house is close to lake Windermere and nice walks. If you travel by public transport there is a bus station within 5 min walk that can get you to the train stations. Travelling to the Ulverston train station by bus is about 15 mins.
The house itself has everything for nice rest:
apart from the lovely bedroom, guests can use the rooms for chill-out and the living room and the kitchen. There is also a separate restroom for visitors.
Thanks again and will visit you back.
A wonderful overnight stay with Alex in a delightful home full of character. Lovely friendly couple, we felt welcome, by Basil too. It easy to find, beautiful location besides the river, history of "dolly blue", quiet, warm, very comfy bed, ideal situated for going to Coniston in the morning.
I only stayed for a brief overnight trip but I felt truly at home with Alex, Andrew and Basil. Will definitely be staying again if I find myself in that part of the world again :) Thank you.
The cottage was charming. Andrew & Alex were very sweet and their dog Basil was awesome. Everything was as described.
