A traditional Lakeland cottage next to the River Leven in the famous Lake District National Park. The perfect place to explore the fells or for rest and relaxation.
The house has lots of character, with a real wood burning stove, stone walls and wooden beams throughout. There are lots of local walks, you're a a 5 minute drive from Newby Bridge and an 18 minute drive from Windermere. The National Trust property, Fell Foot Park, is only 10 minutes drive away.
We are well connected for public transport, lying on the route between Ulverston and Windermere the bus stop is a 2-3 minute walk from the house. The Haverthwaite & Lakeside Steam Railway station is just down the road and takes you to Lakeside, where you can enjoy boat trips across to Fell Foot Park or up to Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.
The Whitewater Hotel is just across the road, offering 2 rosette dining and also a riverside bar (we also have a conservatory with views over the river). The Cascades leisure club/pool is also just across the river and can used for £5/half day or £10/day. The Angler's Arms is a short walk away, offering tasty Cumbria dining and real ales. Breakfast is not included although you are more than welcome to make use of the kitchen.
Your room is a double room with lots of character - stone walls, wooden beams and a delightful river view. You can enjoy exclusive use of the feature bathroom, with stone walls, wooden beams and a claw-foot bath for the duration of your stay. There is also a shower room which you can use.
There is also a double sofa bed which can be booked for an extra £15 when booking the double room. Please ask for more details.
Free WiFi. Complimentary loose leaf tea and fresh coffee (bean-to-cup machine).
Free pick up from Ulverston train station, or a nearby location by arrangement, depending on your time of arrival.
There's also a handy village shop just a 5 minute walk away.
Andrew and Alex live in the house along with Basil the friendly Labrador. Always happy to offer local advice whether it's about walking, dining, attractions etc.
Come and visit this beautiful part of the Lake District - we look forward to welcoming you!
A lovely location right next to the rapids at the bottom of Lake Windymere. A very friendly family. Would highly recommend it.
We stayed at Alex's and Andrew's the weekend of valentine's day and I can honestly say we couldn't have asked for better hosts! Gorgeous house and not forgetting their gorgeous dog basil! Would recommend to anyone if you're wanting a relaxing time in the lakes. Thanks again andrew and Alex!
Just what we needed after a long drive down to stop over. Basil the dog was delightful and area nice too.
My friend and i are 2 young Singaporean girls seeking a quiet adventure in the Lakeside.
Andrew and Alex share a wonderful house with their brilliantly friendly dog, Basil.
Their cosy Bridge House is within Back Barrow and right in front of an amazing white water view.
They showed us warmth and hospitality with their cosy fireplace, gentle personalities and quaint house.
The room is perfect with stone slade walls and a window to the river. A wonderful getaway from the city and amazing location by the powerful river.
Our adventure was blogged here too :

Amazingly located right by the river and near interesting places like Lakeside (the hotel serves good food!) and the train, and also not far from Windermere town. The house felt full of character esp with the quaint stone wall in the room!
We had a wonderful time with Alex & Andrew, & of course Basil.
It`s a great place to say , with such nice people.
Had a great time - be sure to check out the Anglers - great recommendation from Andrew and Alex, very generous with their time too. Very cosy comfy little room, lovely spot for some great walks if like me you don't have a car. Yes, would definitely recommend.
This cottage is absolutely beautiful! The room is amazing and Alex and Andrew are very nice and talented people. We loved being by the river and the forests. Basil is a lovely dog. Have fun!
Thanks Andrew and Alex for a lovely stay in the lakes!
The house was great, brilliant spot to tackle scafell pike from. Andrew and Alex were both so friendly to us, and really easy going; especially with us wanting to make a huge bowl of porridge before our walk!
I would recommend it to anyone wanting to access the lakes from an authentic country cottage.
We went to Andrew's and Alex's very beautiful cottage with my partner Serkan. The house is very much a warm place to stay and there is a lot of soul in it. It is obvious that they think about even the smallest detail about the room you will be staying. It was nice and clean and has a window facing the River Leven. The location of the house is also very good; nearby a traditional train station and the pub Anglers Arms, which serve good food and ales.
We travel a lot but to be honest this was our best trip. Not only because the house is very welcoming but also Andrew and Alex are the best hosts you can ever meet and their dog Basil is one of the loveliest and most well-behaved dogs. They are very helpful to make your journey a perfect one as they are both very knowledgable of the Lake District and they are also very kind to help you with everything about the organization of your trips. They also work hard to make you feel at home, for instance they give you lights or coats in case you need them. It was a very good experience for us not only because we have learned a lot from them in terms of the Lake District, but it was also a great pleasure to have shared moments with them, to chat with them on any subject, ranging from music to cinema, from politics to nature.
Me and my partner Serkan, we definitely recommend a trip to this loveliest cottage, if you want to experience a peaceful, relaxing and friendly holiday in the fantastic nature of the Lake District.
