  • This is definitely the best spot when heading out to Portland! Everything is literally walking distance- Pok Pok, Salt and Straw, Sunshine Tavern, Sen Yai, coffee shops, afternoon tea and all! Less than a five minute walk to great restaurants by Division Street and even the bus stop to downtown and to the airport is a hop, skip and a beat!

Larry's house is simply beautiful! You could tell that he put a lot of thought in every every single detail of the house. Janna, the dog was super friendly and you wouldn't even think there's a dog in the house, super quiet! Like prior reviews, we got the chance to hear Larry's soothing music, strumming the guitar or hitting the keys of the piano at random times of the day that we were there. He's super friendly and gave tips on which places to visit and his fave Italian restaurant at Pearl District. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of his new project, one of the top floor rooms that he is remodeling and shared my input on the color scheme. I'm excited to see how it will turn out and hopefully, we'll get to stay there next time we come back!

This place is truly worth it--location, cleanliness, atmosphere...pretty much everything! 5 star rating from my husband and I! Thank you Larry for opening your wonderful home to us! Until our next visit!

  • Larry was a fantastic host. His hospitality and place has really helped make our trip to Portland a wonderful experience! I truly only have nice things to say about this place.

The house was in a very nice neighborhood in SE Portland. It's quiet at night but only a block away from Division st.

The room and house as a whole was very clean, and well put. The bathrooms were tidy as well. He has a lounge area on the 3rd floor which is a great place to unwind; Larry kindly left a few fruits, coffee, and foodstuffs out for us there.

Jannah was a wonderful dog! Very well trained, quiet and incredibly nice. She was a real treat to have around the house.

  • Larry was a great host. I needed to find a place to stay on short notice and Larry got back to me quickly. The room was clean and everything needed was provided. Communication was easy and everything went smoothly. The house is about a 20 min bus ride to downtown Portland.

  • Had a comfortable and quiet stay at Larry's home. An excellent location, 1 block away from busy Division Street with plenty to do and see within walking distance. The 3rd n top floor is the guest room which means multiple flights of stairs, however, plenty of living space, privacy, and your own bathroom, too. A solid rental for travelers.

  • Spent three night's at Larry's place this past weekend. I was in town with a friend for a wedding. It was SO idyllic. Larry was low key and very helpful. Place was GORGEOUS home that he renovated himself. Just a lot of heart and good vibes in the house. I would definitely stay here again if I went back to Portland.

  • This was a very nice, clean room in a quiet house. The neighbourhood was fabulous and so close to great restaurants and bars. Larry was a kind a welcoming host. The one thing that I would mention with the room is to bring a sleeping eyeshade as there are two huge skylights in the bedroom with no coverings to block the light in the morning.

  • The upstairs bedroom was gorgeous and totally clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept on -- a lovely firm foam mattress. The pup was also very sweet. I would happily stay here again -- beats a hotel any time!

Added bonus: one block from Pok Pok (acclaimed Thai street food), two blocks from Salt & Straw (unbelievable ice cream - try the Arbequina Olive Oil!), ten blocks from the original Stumptown coffee. The neighborhood is gorgeous and super walkable, in a part of town without any hotels.

  • Our stay with Larry was wonderful. The location is walking distance to everything you'd want to see in the S.E., and the room was beautiful. Plentiful clean towels and coffee ingredients and clean implements every morning, I have no complaints.

We especially enjoyed the very large bed, ambient music from various instruments played downstairs, and of course playing with the wonderful dog Janna.

I was born and raised in Portland. I love to hunt for wild mushrooms and occasionally go fishing for steelhead in the local streams. In 1998 I started deconstructing the single story house my grandmother had owned, and then over the next five years, rebuilt it as a three-story. I am self-employed as a licensed general contractor/handyman. In my spare time I play classical guitar, and am learning how to tune pianos.
