8kms from Christchurch International Airport, and 10kms to the centre of town. (What Centre?) Well, there is the Restart Mall and a few buildings left and the river Avon! A few more buildings to come down then the rebuild for the city will really get started. There are a few new buildings and of course many open spaces, which have been filled by what some locals are calling 'Gap fillers'. At least the Town Hall is staying to be repaired at a great cost to many! The town is forever changing daily.
The Cardboard Cathedral is replacing the Original Christchurch Cathedral which was 'munted' in the 2011 EQ. in the City Centre. Interesting!
2 Blocks from Northlands Shopping Mall, which includes 2 supermarkets and many more shops, and boutiques.
On main bus routes to the airport, into the city and the Obitor bus which goes around the main shopping centres in Christchurch. Near the Main North Road for trips north of Christchurch.
The No 125 bus from airport, (it's about a 10 minute walk to the Bus stop), across from the Antarctic Centre. Then ask the bus driver to drop you off by the Sanitarium Factory on Harewood Road. From there walk straight across the traffic lights, a few metres to my house. The fare is about $4.00, and the buses run every 15 minutes during the day then 30minutes in the evenings and the weekends. Start about 6am until 11.30pm Mon - Fri
The Shuttle bus is about $20.00 from airport to my place.
A taxi is $30 - $40.00 depending on no passengers & time of day.
24hrs Gym across the road and a Taxi rank 1 minute away.
There are many 'Take Aways' and restaurants within 5 mins walk away, Thai. Chinese, Subway, Kebarbs House, and The Lone Star Restaurant.
Would best suit single women travelling by themselves or couples.
Takes up to 4 people travelling together into 2 bedrooms.
I will welcome you on arrival and we be around some days as I work from home. Other days I go out to work, but Lucy (Cat) is always around and loves company.
Safe and friendly neighborhood. Street parking outside my place can be difficult during the working week, as it near the Papanui Business area. Otherwise evenings and weekends are very quiet.
There is parking outside my property and is safe at night.
There is a public transport system into the centre of Christchurch (The Donut- as it is now called) as it is empty inside and all happening around the outskirts. The No 125 bus goes every 15 minutes and leaves from a block away to go the airport. This takes about 15 -20 minutes depending on traffic and costs about $3.50!
Lucy-Lou my cat is always around, but is no trouble to guests.
Lounge - TV
Kitchen only for Tea & coffee making facilities
Interaction with Guests
I will welcome you on your arrival, show to to you room, and facilities in the house.
The neighbourhood is safe and quiet, especially in the evening and weekends, though there is a 24hr Gym across the road, which is good security, so I'm told.
About 2 blocks from Northlands Shopping Mall, which has 2 large supermarkets. Countdown and Pak 'N Save. Countdown is open till 11pm every night.
Just around the corner onto Papanui Rd, is a Bus stop, which many buses stop at going into town, via Merivale. Also by Northlands Shopping Mall buses leave to go to the airport and another does a circuit around all the shopping Malls.
You will have your own bedroom and bathroom. Continential breakfast included and use of lounge.
As I work from my home studio, guests need out of the house by 10am unless prior arrangements are made. If I go out to work, I leave early, and a continental Breakfast is then left out for guests to help themselves.
No smoking on the property, thank you.
An absolute pleasure to stay here! The room was very comfortable and warm with plenty of space. The private bathroom was modern and neat.
Pauline was a delightful host! Very considerate (she had the heater on in my room when I arrived so it was nice and toasty) and supplied a delicious continental breakfast each morning. She even had a collection of brochures about things to see and do in Christchurch which was very helpful:)
Loved this accommodation. Would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.
Pauline is a very warmhearted and welcoming host.
Her house is cosy and everything is perfect. No wishes left open!
Thanks Pauline and Lucy for welcoming us to you beautiful home! The cozy rooms and extremely comfortable beds made us hit the snooze button quite a few times :-) And the home-baked bread was delicious!
We had a fabulous stay with Pauline. Our last night in New Zealand and what a lovely home to stay in! Pauline's house was gorgeous and immaculately kept. The bed was so big and comfy and it felt like a home away from home. Pauline was warm and welcoming and it was lovely to be able to chat to her and Lucy for a few hours before we went out for dinner. Breakfast in the morning was lovely too! Thank you again Pauline.
Although our stay was short we had a wonderful time at Pauline's home . Everything was as described on the website . Pauline served us a good continental breakfast early at 7:30 am as we had a flight to board at 10:00 . The house is very close to lots of restaurants and a huge mall ..... So had a nice time in the evening as well . Would definitely recommend a stay at Pauline's .
Daniel enjoyed the room. Better than expected. Absolutely clean and tidy and the bed was perfect.
Pauline was an excellent host.
About the Host, Pauline
I am a female living in Papanui, Christchurch, where I run my Image Consultancy business. I work from my home studio as well as going out to homes to do 'Wardrobe Audits' and 'Personal Shopping' when required.
My background is nursing and I still work casually at Christchurch Women's Hospital. I've lived and worked in Australia, the Middle East, England and travelled extensively before returning to New Zealand.
I am often up at 6am to meet friends, or 7am at the weekends go for a run which you're more than welcome to join us!
Have taken up cycling to the hospital since the EQ in 2011 due to the congestion on the roads - though it is not as bad is the UK!
Ideal clients for me are single women traveling alone who requries personal security, couples and those wanting to appreciate local knowledge.
I have a middle aged cat who is usually no problem with guests.
