THE HOUSE & LOCATION
Our house is a wooden Victorian 2-storey villa on a on crooked, leafy little street in a quiet and very central location. It’s comfortable and unpretentious … just like us! Car parking is available on the street immediately outside the house.
A 7-minute walk takes you into the heart of Nelson with its cafes, bars, shops, movies, art gallery, museum and live theatre. It's only a few more minutes to river and hillside walks, 25 minutes on foot to the sea.
If you spot the police car in the street view on G Maps do not be alarmed: our friendly local community policemen lives just across the road. Need we say that the neighbourhood is very safe? And that safe on-street parking is available for your car?
Our family arrived in Nelson in the late 1800's (from Ireland) so our connections to the place and the people are wide and deep. We'd enjoy sharing our networks and local knowledge with you.
On the other hand, we are happy for you to be totally independent and simply use the place as a springboard for your own explorations.
Children are welcome - our place is ideal for family or small groups . Check to see if we can reconfigure our two guest rooms to suit families or small groups. TARIFF FOR EACH CHILD IS $17.50 PER CHILD PER NIGHT.

Mary-Ellen and Dave are generous host. The accomodation is in a great old house. I had a nice room and a bathroom for my own. It was a warmly atmosphere. I loved it to stay there.
This is a great room with a comfortable bed. The O'Connors are excellent hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. A quick walk into downtown and close to bus routes into Abel Tasman.
Mary Ellen made us feel very welcome. Really enjoyed playing her piano, and the view from the patio in the back.
We had a wonderful stay at Nell's of Nelson. Mary Ellen and her husband Dave were friendly, gracious, and kind. No surprise that we
very quickly felt at home. We enjoyed chatting with Mary Ellen and Dave about a variety of subjects. They are a very interesting couple.
The house and the Pink Room were as described and very comfortable. We appreciated the big bay window in the bedroom and it's outlook on the front garden. Mary Ellen laid out items for a nice self-serve breakfast each day which we could have eaten on the deck if the weather had been more cooperative.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay with Mary Ellen and Dave again.
They are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Unfortunately, we only stayed in Nelson for 1 night after a weekend in Mapua. Mary Ellen was very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. She even offered us a small breakfast free of charge and drove us to the bus station the next morning! The house was lovely and spacious, but like I said, we only spent the night there and didn't have enough time to fully enjoy the home.
Really enjoyed staying with Mary Allen and David, who are very kind and friendly. Mary even have us a lift to Mapua as she was on her way. Breakfast was great too.
