Blaine was very helpful getting everything set up. The place was fantastic - easy to find and perfect for what we needed!
Blaise was very helpful since the beginning. The explanations for the house we're really clear.
The house was very nice and clean! Thanks Blaine
The first hour we were at the house was spent cleaning the floors, counters, and fridge. There was no room for us to put refreshments for the weekend and the house smelled like garbage. There were stains, dog hair, and dirt all over. We had to go purchase febreeze to cover up the smell. The owner did offer to bring breakfast to make up for the messy conditions, but we still had to walk around in the filth.
I hired a professional cleaning service to come and clean the entire house before Marilyn's stay, as I always do. She did not let me know that there was an issue with the cleanliness until after they had supposedly "cleaned for an hour"...leaving no evidence of any issue. I have a hard time believing it was as bad as she described but I did give her the benefit of the doubt.
To make it up to her, I offered to provide a full brunch service for her group, complete with fresh fruit, cheeses, preserves, bread, yogurt, coffee, mimosas, breakfast tacos, salsa, queso, etc. Marilyn took me up on this offer, then bailed as I was heading over to deliver it. To be clear, she asked me to get up early, buy all the supplies and then left as I was on my way over to the house, leaving me with almost $100 of breakfast items.
In regards to the fridge space, I asked Marilyn prior to check-in if she would need any special (email hidden)e did not mention needing extra fridge space.
Needless to say, I would not welcome this group back.
Blaine's home is very unique and comfortable. I stayed there with a party of 6 and we all fit very comfortably.
Blaine responded very fast and was very easy to work with throughout the entire process. Great Host!
The place was awesome, spacious, and with a lot of character. Would stay here again and again!
Blaine's house was very comfortable and he was a great host. 5 friends and I stayed there for the weekend, the house had everything we needed and was a short walk away from coffee and a really good burrito place. We never met Blaine in person but communicating with him was a breeze (via email and over the phone). He sent us a word document with house details that made getting in and out quite nice. I will definitely be making an effort to use Blaine's residence again when I return to Austin.
Blaine's home is nice and comfortable for a group of six (6) or so people. Within a decent vicinity of downtown and all SXSW activities. However, after our group's stay and extensive cleaning of the home on the day of our departure Blaine messaged me complaining about us holding a party at his home (not true, we never had more then 8 people at the home) and that there was a strong cigarette smell throughout the home, including the bedrooms... I honestly don't even know how this is possible as nobody smoked indoors. Blaine demanded that we pay for a full and extensive cleaning service even though we left the home in nearly perfect condition and already paid the mandatory cleaning deposit. I exchanged multiple messages with Blaine in regards to his complaints, I tried my best to explain what really happened and what didn't... Eventually I compromised and offered to pay for part of the cleaning, Blaine responded saying "I have no interest in going back and forth over such a small amount of money. I'm going to have the steam cleaning done..."
That's the last I heard from Blaine until today when I found a rude review on my profile in regards to our stay in Austin. At the end of the day it seemed pretty obvious that Blaine and his roommates weren't entirely comfortable renting their home out during SXSW and were trying to get over on us for an additional $300 worth of cleaning when we already paid a grand total of $2500 for the rental...
I am entirely comfortable renting out my home for SXSW and have done so many times. Never has there been an issue. All other guests have been respectful of house rules and I've never had to make a claim on a security deposit.
Moreover, the price paid for the rental is irrelevant. As most people know, lodging is expensive in Austin during SXSW. Paying that going rate does not grant guests the ability to break house rules. If damages occur...such as a strong smell of smoke throughout the house...the costs to remedy those damages will rightly come out of the security deposit. Such was the case here...the claim was justified as confirmed by the Airbnb claims investigator team.
