About this listing
Colorful, modern, spacious, and clean! Private laundry, easy parking, and well-appointed kitchen. Convenient to Boston and Cambridge. This is my well-maintained primary residence (and my only Airbnb) that's available for rent when I am traveling.
I'm a high school science teacher who lives in the apartment from September-June, hosting guests in my spare room (see the many reviews for my other listing). During July and August I travel and rent out the entire apartment. Of course I'll be using Airbnb when I'm away!
The apartment is in Somerville, a vibrant residential neighborhood that borders Boston and Cambridge. It's safe (I walk alone at night) and has tons of great bars, restaurants, shops, and arts-related events. I've owned the apartment for 12 years and wouldn't want to live in any other part of the city! It is easy to get downtown on public transportation.
-Two LCD TVs with cable and Apple TV to stream free movies and TV shows on Netflix and Hulu
-Use of color laser printer
-Kitchen that is stocked with all of the basics (spices, oil, butter, sugar, coffee, tea, etc.) to get you started cooking great summer meals
-Use of washer and dryer in private laundry room in the basement (not shared with other building residents)
-Full-size bed topped with a comfortable featherbed (green room)
-Queen-size bed with memory foam mattress (orange room)
-Sheets and towels
-Other amenities such as hair dryer, iron and ironing board, umbrellas to borrow, etc.
-Parking for your car in my private driveway
-Close to a Hubway bike share kiosk
-Centrally located near Harvard Square (1.5 miles), Davis Square (1.8 miles), Porter Square (1.8 miles), MIT (2.8 miles), and Tufts (1.8 miles)
-If you're the walking sort like I am, you can walk to the Sullivan Square stop on the orange line (20 minutes) or the Harvard, Davis, Central, or Porter stop on the red line (30-35 minutes)
-If you're not the walking sort, there are lots of bus routes close by that go to Lechmere (green line), Sullivan (orange line), and Davis (red line); An Uber ride is $10 or less to these places
-12 minute walk to Union Square where there are coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and a great Saturday farmer's market
-Drive to Logan Airport in as little as 10 minutes (allow 30 minutes at peak driving times)
I prefer to rent to nonsmokers, as we are a nonsmoking building (even outside on the property).
If you are inquiring about booking the apartment, please tell me a bit about yourself and why you'll be in Boston.
*** I have a very friendly cat who usually lives in the apartment. My plan is to have her stay with my mother over the summer. But if you are a cat lover and would prefer to have her with you for company, she'd be happy to offer her services. She loves meeting new people and is a great Airbnb host.
Located in Somerville, a vibrant neighborhood with great restaurants, a weekly farmers' market, and frequent arts events.
Close to bus routes; easy connection to subway and only a couple of stops to downtown Boston. Bike rental kiosk is a short walk away. Parking in private driveway if you have a car.
NO SMOKING is allowed in the apartment, in the driveway, or on the front porch. Please smoke only on the public sidewalk.
Be sure to lock the inner and outer doors when coming and going (they don't automatically lock).
Please don't wear shoes inside. I have guest slippers for you to borrow!
From Jul 22 - Aug 31, 2016 the minimum stay is 7 nights.
Plenty of travel guides, a big subway map, and a TV that streams Netflix and Hulu are waiting for you.
I'm a high school science teacher, textbook writer, and since 2009, an Airbnb host. I enjoy taking photos (both digital and Polaroid), going to arts-related events, walking all over the city, cooking mostly vegetarian food, traveling, fixing/building things, seeing live music, rock climbing, running, backpacking in the mountains, doing yoga/acrobatics, and drinking good beer. I am a sucker for mid-century modern design and collect old cameras and pachinko machines. I love living in Somerville and think it's the absolute best place to live in greater Boston. I'd be happy to recommend things to do and places to eat in the area. I share my space with a friendly cat named Sebastian (nicknamed Cookie).
Not only do I love hosting on Airbnb, but I always use it when traveling. So far I've had great experiences as a guest in the US, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Czech Republic, and Turkey.
