My place is a very laid back, city home with chickens (4 at last count) 3 cats , The yard is a 1/4 acre, woodsy and wild yard with huge firs, cedars and hemlock trees surrounding the property and giant Magnolias which shade the yard in summer and bloom perpetually pink in spring. My place feels like one has stumbled across a Country Inn amongst a city setting, it's very unique, and a most magical place to come home to after a day of skiing, walking, or sightseeing on one of our wonderful rainy days
Private one bedroom suite with bathroom and living room, Backyard, BBQ, laundry, 3 bikes, picnic table,
I rarely have anyone upstairs in my living area or kitchen .
Interaction with Guests
I am almost always nearby and available for information on restaurants, running routes, buses, beaches, cafes, etc etc . I greet my guests when they arrive and hopefully get a chance to say Bye too but it doesn't always work out that way.I mainly leave my guests alone while they are here, I think people generally like that. I am a very approachable person though so I hope my guests feel very much at home here even if I don't see them much. Paths tend to cross more often in the summer when we are outside.
Our yard is a gem amongst the city life. Once you leave our yard the rest of the neighbourhood is safe and easy to access the rest of the city. We live right by 2 cute villages where you can go out for dinner, get lunch or go shopping. There are 2 grocery stores within walking distance and also a liquor store.
Public Transit is easily accessible to everyone. Its about a one minute walk from our house to the bus stop. We have 3 bus routes at my corner that connect you to other buses, ie, UBC ,downtown and beaches and the train to the airport,so you can get around the city easily. We also have 3 bikes, which you may ask for. Buses will take 2 bikes if you don't feel like riding back home. We are right beside 2 bike routes which is great for the summer. Vancouver is a bike friendly city !
The suite is private and separate from our living space so you are very much on your own and don't need to check in with us on a daily basis unless you need to. I ask that you please remove your shoes at the door otherwise the area rugs get soiled very quickly. There are down booties provided for you inside the suite. You are welcome to use the laundry, BBQ outside, the yard and tables in the garden. Since the Garden area is also our space we are often outside eating and socializing with friends. We are not bothered by late nights but ask that you keep voices to a minimum after midnight and before 8 am, since it's an old house it's not sound proof. We also ask that if you smoke, please do so outside. That is all. Welcome to our Home!
Anne is an amazing host. She is gracious, kind and freely gives great tips on places to go and things to see. I loved her house and more over her garden. The house is an old character home which oozes with charm (and the bed is really comfy!). The garden is huge, natural and stunning. My only regret is I didn't allow myself enough time to really explore the garden. Next time. Lovely experience all around.
Nice quiet spot and great value for our short stay in Vancouver, Anne made us very welcome, many thanks
I loved staying at Anne's place. It was so cosy and it was the most comfortable bed ever!
It's great as you have your own entrance, own bathroom and living space (complete with a little kitchenette) as well as a lovely light and spacious bedroom.
The area is great - really safe and really easy to get to places. Canadian bus drivers are the nicest and most helpful in the world!
Anne is a warm lovely host and would recommend staying at her place to anyone
Ann's place was great and just as shown in the pictures.
Just a note, the corner shower is elevated. Not a problem at all when you you see it. however the step to it is small some older guests may find it awkward to navigate stepping out with wet feet.
Loved the country in the city oasis of the yard.
I would stay here again.
Thank you Anne.
Anne's room with a garden view is really just that, an idyllic oasis very close to the center of Vancouver. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit and Anne was the perfect host right down to the fresh orange juice and the most delicious yoghurt I have tasted in a long while. We took our bikes and were on the beach within five minutes of cycling away. The chickens running around added a really relaxing element, the apartment was spacious , clean and comfortable, perfect for the three of us. We will definitely return hopefully for a little longer next time! Thank you Anne.
Many thanks to Anne for her great hospitality!
More than just a room, the place was more like a little apartment. Very spacious, funky and well-appointed. I only wish I could have stayed longer than the single night I was there. Oh, did I mentioned she keeps some friendly chickens in the yard? It's a wonderful spot in a wonderful neighbourhood.
Anne was very welcoming and accommodating, and I would happily stay at her place again if I were to return to Vancouver!

I am a young at heart mother of 3 girls. I love the outdoors, healthy food, beautiful places, travelling, animals, nature, I am passionate about gardening and being creative, I paint watercolors, knit, cook, ride my bike, swim, run, walk and hike. My profession for the past 25 years till present is Landscape Design, but, before that I worked as a Treeplanter, a Camp cook for mining exploration companies and treeplanters and once upon a time I was a Hairdresser and co owner of an Outdoor Adventure company that took guests up to explore our precious BC coast and the Islands of Haida Gwaii by boat. I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and I have traveled and worked travelled extensively all over Canada, through most Mexico, the USA, Borneo, Malaysia and Great Britain, but, I have so much more to see on this planet. I love where I live, my home is really laid back, funky and comfortable, it sits in a grove within a forest amidst a city as its neighbour. I have lived in this same house for 21 years and counting!
At this time we have our resident friendliest dog on earth, Shyla, ( passed away New Years Eve ,dec 31,2014 ,I had to write this for those who knew had her and were graced with her sweet presence for a tummy scratch )3 kitties, Pip, Clementine and White Spot, and 4 chickens, Rose, Quince,Midnight Oil, and Lovegood.
I have a couple of bikes for guests to use during their stay and if you want me to take you on a hike or walk into the local mountains, off the beaten track, beaches or something out of the ordinary, it would be a pleasure for me to do so, if our schedules work out that it's possible, just let me know.
Barktholomews is a 10 minute walk from my place. It's a cool little Pet store to get a present for your pet from my neighbourhood while supporting "Nancy" the wonderful store owner.
