About this listing
We're simply the best place from which to explore Cape Town. Check out our reviews....
The price is for the apartment, which sleeps two or three, and not per person. It's a big one-bedroomed flat with separate kitchen, bathroom and patio very close to Table Mountain and within walking distance of the central city of Cape Town. Everyone who walks in says: 'Wow, it's bigger than it looks in the photos'. Perhaps I should have used a wide-angle lens :-)
There's a bus stop nearby and secure off-road parking behind a gate if you have a car. We have Wi-Fi and we'll welcome you with a bottle of good red Cape wine.
Just for fun, we have a bush shower on the patio so you can watch clouds scud across the blue sky as you shower (yes, it does have a shower curtain). Some love it, others wouldn't think of trying.
African Sun is in a quiet neighbourhood. There are good shops and six excellent, trendy restaurants within strolling distance. There's a lemon tree in the garden and a shady bench to watch lemons ripen.
Both of us are writers. We're great on information about where to go, what to see and who to contact for traveling in Africa. We speak English, Italian and a bit of French.
And of course there's Cape Town - consistently rated as one of the finest cities in the world to visit. We know where you can see the Big Five African animals within an hour and there's stuff to do like wine tours, shark cage diving, mountain and rock climbing. Also the city is mountain-bike mad with some great routes and bikes to hire. Most guests say: 'I wish I booked for longer'.
We're close to great restaurants and a neat little supermarket. Also the heart of the city and Tale Mountain are conveniently nearby.
Interaction with Guests
There's a link to our side of the house. You can stay private and keep it locked or pop in whenever you like.
Quiet, safe with terrific views of mountain and city.
There's a great bus service and the nearest stop is just round the corner. We keep bus cards you can use anytime.
Other Things to Note
Because Airbnb sets the booking dates from day of arrival to day of departure, guests sometimes think the morning departure date is actually that night's sleepover. If we don't have guests booked on that extra night it's no problem, but when we do there's a mad scramble for alternative one-night accommodation elsewhere. And in Cape Town that's sometimes hard to find at the last minute. So please keep this in mind when you book.
We prefer you not to smoke inside but on the patio.
Because we clean the apartment thoroughly for new guests, we'd like you to vacate on your final day by 10am. You can store cases etc with us for longer if you need to.
So so fantastic! Don and Patchy made me feel so incredibly welcome. Thank you! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I give you ten stars out of five!
African Sun is a welcoming, comfortable and ideally located accommodation. The hosts are interesting, smart people and if you're lucky you might even get to browse some of their books or view their magical elephant photos. You get your own bathroom, kitchen, entrance and outside porch and are right at the bottom of Table Mountain and only about 30mins walk to the centre of town. Everything about this b&b was just great.
Don and his wife were the epitome of good hosts. Making us feel welcome with a bottle of local red wine and some bread and cheese.
Don is attentive in making sure everything we could possibly want was attended to without being intrusive.
It was so good, we decided to come back the next week!
Great location and accommodation.
Don welcomed us with wine, fruit and bagels. His guide to the neighborhood, Cape Town was the best we came across.
Now back home and enjoying his book, Love Letters to Africa.
Thank you, Don.
Don and Patricia were extremely welcoming hosts with a charming home in one of Cape Town's most beautiful neighborhoods. Their guest apartment was perfect for our short stay in the city, though we certainly would have been comfortable staying there for longer. Don welcomed us with great wine and snacks and a very useful guide that he created to help guests take advantage of the city. We would happily stay with Don and Patricia during our next visit and would definitely recommend their place to other couples staying overnight in Cape Town.
Excellent stay! Don and Patricia's house is a lovely place - An authenic african vibe in Cape Town. Wish we could have stayed much longer! We had a warm welcoming with nice cheese and wine - just what you need when exploring Cape Town! The hosts are inspiring and joyful people. Best recommendations.
