About this listing

We're simply the best place from which to explore Cape Town. Check out our reviews....

The space

The price is for the apartment, which sleeps two or three, and not per person. It's a big one-bedroomed flat with separate kitchen, bathroom and patio very close to Table Mountain and within walking distance of the central city of Cape Town. Everyone who walks in says: 'Wow, it's bigger than it looks in the photos'. Perhaps I should have used a wide-angle lens :-)

There's a bus stop nearby and secure off-road parking behind a gate if you have a car. We have Wi-Fi and we'll welcome you with a bottle of good red Cape wine.

Just for fun, we have a bush shower on the patio so you can watch clouds scud across the blue sky as you shower (yes, it does have a shower curtain). Some love it, others wouldn't think of trying.

African Sun is in a quiet neighbourhood. There are good shops and six excellent, trendy restaurants within strolling distance. There's a lemon tree in the garden and a shady bench to watch lemons ripen.

Both of us are writers. We're great on information about where to go, what to see and who to contact for traveling in Africa. We speak English, Italian and a bit of French.

And of course there's Cape Town - consistently rated as one of the finest cities in the world to visit. We know where you can see the Big Five African animals within an hour and there's stuff to do like wine tours, shark cage diving, mountain and rock climbing. Also the city is mountain-bike mad with some great routes and bikes to hire. Most guests say: 'I wish I booked for longer'.

Guest access

We're close to great restaurants and a neat little supermarket. Also the heart of the city and Tale Mountain are conveniently nearby.

Interaction with guests

There's a link to our side of the house. You can stay private and keep it locked or pop in whenever you like.

Other things to note

Because Airbnb sets the booking dates from day of arrival to day of departure, guests sometimes think the morning departure date is actually that night's sleepover. If we don't have guests booked on that extra night it's no problem, but when we do there's a mad scramble for alternative one-night accommodation elsewhere. And in Cape Town that's sometimes hard to find at the last minute. So please keep this in mind when you book.

We loved the hosts. They were so helpful considering that we got to their place late. Don drove us to the nearest restaurant so we can have dinner. Their place is very clean and with great views of table mountain and lions head. It is in a safe neighborhood and very near the bus stop.

Don and Patricia were excellent hosts. They offer a small booklet filled with important information about the city which is very helpful in getting around to see the things you wish to visit. I would recommend these lodgings to anyone visiting Cape Town.

Don & Patricia's place was wonderful. It became our home away from home. Will definitely come back and stay longer.

This is an atmospheric tucked away spot. I felt at home easily with the generous welcome by this accomplished and kind couple who look after you well despite their demanding schedules. Bus around the corner if no car and also Uber of course! Lots of local info offered thoughtfully and DO ask to look over their book selection you will learn lots!

Good location for getting into Cape Town with nice local cafe and restaurant. Furnishings could be updated and maybe air conditioning and a fan installed.

Response from Don:
Hi Lennie, there was a high-powered fan in the cupboard. Pity you missed it.

Patricia and I live in a large house in central Cape Town which has an apartment attached. We are a few streets from Table Mountain National Park and within walking distance of the city. But there's also a good bus service and nearby shops & restaurants. · Joined in November 2012
