Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Come live as Kings & Queens in our castle! My dad spent 25 years restoring it from its roofless state to its former glory. It can comfortably sleep 10 adults. We are 5 minutes drive from the beautiful Medieval city of Kilkenny

The space
Bedroom 1: 3 beds; 1 double and 2 singles. floor 1.

You would preferrably need transport, we are only 5 minutes from Kilkenny City where there are always plenty of festivals from arts to film to comedy and music. There are some beautiful trails and lots of local history in our area too. The castle has been restored but in keeping with its time so feel free to play cards or chess etc. There are no televisions. Sometimes amenities go due to old electrical and plumbing issues Unfortunately only 2 of the 3 showers are working, we have to get one removed as its pipes have siezed but its quite difficult to remove as pipes run through the old 'privy chamber' therefore we need permission!! Its a true 500year old building and we hope you can appreciate the challenges we face in keeping it open. Relax and retreat to Medieval times and enjoy the quiet of the beautiful countryside!

There is onsite wash/dry facilities if needed and a local pub a 5 minute walk away - please be aware for provisions you will need to access the city or a local village 5 minutes drive from the Castle.

If you want a personalised check in rather than self, it is imperative you make contact to pre arrange this with the owner as I do not love onsite. Otherwise keys will be in a pre determined spot.

Other things to note
A medieval towerhouse, therefore unfortunately we are not wheelchair friendly or suitable for those with restricted mobility.
Also if you are afraid of little spiders who normally reside here 1/2 an hour after cleaning PLS BE AWARE they will be your companions during your stay!!!
Also it WILL most likely be cold. Despite the fact that all bedrooms have radiators, the main living rooms do not. As you may imagine, plumbing was limited in those times and we have done our best but the castle is draughty and difficult to heat. As it's a restricted building, we are also limited in what we can do to it. I hope you understand and it doesn't deter you from adventure.
I usually am there to meet and greet guests and get you settled. As the accomodation is self catering you would need to let me know if you would need a little starter pack and also estimated time of arrival as I dont live on the property.

Kilkenny is in the heart of the south east and fantastically located for longer stays as you are 1.5hrs drive from Dublin or Cork and 20 minutes from Waterford City. Kilkenny is such a beautiful vibrant City with so much to do and see. My local favourites for food are Rinnucinis Italian and Zunis - also Langtons House Hotel is great for some good Irish grub. If you like pubs you are in the right city with a host who play lots of trad to rock to open mike to night clubs - something for everyone.

Hi Everyone. My name is Mhairi Gray, mother to Sofia (8), Daire (4), Saoirse (2) and my husband is Darren. I am so lucky to be able to work from home and I get to spend time with those who mean the most to me. I couldnt live without my French Bulldog Lola, pug Ruby, wifi and my supply of books!!! I LOVE to travel and lived for a year in Mexico and Australia. We have built our beautiful forever home last year and will be finishing it forever more! I will be listing our 16th Century Castle in Kilkenny which I manage for my dad who lovingly restored it to its former glory while keeping it as original as possible. This will be our first time hosting and Im really looking forward to it.
