A comfortable and stylish 1950s cottage, renovated to retain that retro 1950s look and feel, 5 minutes walk from beautiful Blackmans Bay Beach.
A private room, with a Queen sized bed awaits. There is also the use of a trundle bed if you have a pint-sized traveller with you plus two more single mattresses that can be set up in the HUGE room if needed. Clean sheets and towels are provided. There is also a TV that can be used for watching DVDs or feel free to use the flatscreeen in the living area. We have TiVo so you don't have to miss your favourite TV shows whilst out and about exploring our city, they can be recorded for you and watched when you come back to relax and chill out.
When it comes to relaxing, you've come to the right place! I'm a remedial massage therapist and can offer 30 or 60 minute massages if your weary travellers body needs a pick-me-up, relax-me-down treatment.
The home is open plan living, kitchen and eat-in dining. The newest addition is a beautiful free-standing wood fire in the living area to keep you toasty on those cooler nights. There is a stylish and clean bathroom shared with us, with a deep tub. There is also a second toilet for those emergencies! The kitchen is open for full use, if needed, and is fully equipped with microwave, dishwasher, sandwich press etc. There is an awesome free-standing five burner gas cooktop, two electric ovens and a separate grill for cooking. For breakfast, help yourself to tea, coffee and toast with jam, vegemite and honey. I am gluten free, so there are those options as well as the regular toast/wheat options.
The fully fenced garden is child friendly/child proof gate with off-street parking for three cars. There is a deck out the back with alfresco seating, perfect for your morning tea or coffee or just sit in the sun and listen to the waves break on the local beach. Our neighbours are close but they are very quiet and keen gardeners - their flower displays from the back deck are lovely! There is a small water view, so if you are thinking of getting out on the water it's just a quick glance out the back window to see how the conditions are.
The local beach is gorgeous on a sunny day with a fish n chip shop, The Beach Restaurant and Cafe and Sfumo restaurant which does an awesome pizza and is an easy 5 minute stroll. There is a small shopping centre across and up the road (5 minute walk) with bakery, IGA, bottle shop, takeaway shop, hairdresser, gift shop, chemist, doctors surgery - everything you would need. There is a Shell/Coles Express one door up which closes at 11pm. There is a Coles and Woolworths in Kingston within a 5 minute drive. Blackmans Bay is a 15 minute drive from Hobart's CBD and popular Salamanca. There is also a bus stop across the road with regular buses to the City.
If you are looking for some scenic short walks locally, there is a beautiful coastal walk at the end of Blackmans Bay Beach and Boronia Beach and Kingston Beach are within a 20 minute walk.
You will be sharing with Mitten, our rescued cat, the ultimate lap cat. He is a long-haired cat so if you suffer from cat allergies, this may not suit you, although he is not allowed in the guest room at any time.
I would love to be your host and share my home with you!
Kitchen and all communal areas.
Interaction with Guests
As little or as much as guests would like.
We are a non-smoking household, so would prefer a non-smoker or if you do smoke, it must be outside. Our cat is an indoor cat and is not allowed outside (keeps the birdlife safe), it would be appreciated if you make sure the doors are closed properly after you so our cat stays inside.
Overall a good experience. I was made welcome. I did discuss the only negative aspect of my stay with Sharon. The narrowness of the Gateway entry combined with a busy road made it very daunting to enter and exit. Lucky for me I was driving a small car.
This was my second stay with Sharon, and it was like catching up with an old friend, absolutely loved it. Already missing her, mitten and alex. Hassle free stay and would recommend to everyone. The house is great and has a lovely warm fire, amazing kitchen and very comfy bed :) very close to both Kingston Beach and Blackmans bay. Short drive to Hobart and all the sights. Close to some sweet aurora watching spots for any aurora chasers out there.
Absolutely great place to stay and sharon is a great host! looking forwards to my next trip there :) Fire makes the place nice and cosie and super friendly and pretty kitty :)
Nice house and lovely host family. Just left Hobart and I have already missed everything there. Thanks for Sharon and Dan's invitation to their party. And Dan's pancake is the best I have ever had. Thank you!
This was the perfect accommodation to start my move to Hobart. Each evening I looked forward to coming home to Sharon's place to the warmth of a fire and friends. The bed is comfortable and sooo warm to snuggle down into when there is a chill in the air. The stove is amazing - really. Sharon and I stood and admired it one morning ;) The location is great with access to bus routes and easy cycling to Kingston and the beach, and beyond.
So, the house is as it is described, and I'd add beautiful and cosy. I now have firm friends and would move in if I could.
My stay at Sharon's was wonderful. Her house is homey and nicely decorated and so close to the water and only ten minute drive to the heart of Hobart. I appreciated the little touches of hospitality. My daughter was in love with Mittens. Overall we really enjoyed our time in Hobart and I would recommend staying at Sharon's place.
Two weeks ago we stayed with Sharon in her nice beach cottage for a weekend away in the greater Hobart area.
Sharon is a very easy going, chatty kind of host and made us feel like staying with an old friend. Of course we also immediately fell in love with Mitten, her gorgeous cat!!
Sharon's cottage is in a great location, either for a short car trip to Hobart or to explore the area south. Good restaurants and beach are within walking distance!!
We would stay with Sharon again!

I have a passion for where I live, my (new) home town, Hobart. Originally from North Queensland, I have spent the last eleven years exploring Tasmania. I'm a keen bushwalker and have completed many short walks as well as The Overland Track, an epic 5-6 day walk over 67kms - there are still so many more to do! I am starting to learn whitewater kayaking and also enjoy rafting and sea-kayaking adventures. I like to immerse myself in what Tasmania has to offer, which is so unique and varied.
I am a Remedial Massage Therapist, I love my job and run my own business, I am also currently undertaking a Fine Arts Degree through the School of Art at University of Tasmania. I love homestyle cooking and preparing yummy, simple and nutritious meals. We have a pretty relaxed atmosphere at our home. I would love to share it with people and help them to enjoy their stay in our wonderful State.
My hope for the future is to explore, have amazing adventures, meet wonderful people and be happy and healthy.
