Houseboat Calliope is on the river estuary in Shoreham, 5 mins from the beach. It is less than 10 minutes walk over the footbridge to Shoreham Station, then 15 mins to Brighton and 75 mins to London. Guests can use our gas bbq, canoes and bicycles.

The space

Houseboat Calliope is on a footpath in a community of 40 boats, old and new. It is 100 metres from free parking. The houseboat, built in 2013, is accessed via a ramp to the upper floor. There is an entrance hall and a 5 metre by 13 metre living space comprising kitchen, dining table, wood burning stove and soft seating area. There is also an outside deck, and a garden area with gas barbecue.
Downstairs there is a master bedroom plus two single bedrooms and a bedroom with a bunk bed for two. There is also a bathroom with bath, walk in shower and toilet, plus a second toilet upstairs.

Guest access

Guests will have use of all spaces mentioned above. When you step onto the deck, there is a ramp which leads to the frontdoor ( to the left is a separate self contained apartment.)

Interaction with guests

We are happy to talk to guests about their stay, though we will not be present during the stay. Our neighbour will be there to help.

Other things to note

We have a cat, Sirius Black, who we would like guests to feed morning and early evening.
Situated at the south end of the boat is a separate small apartment which is permanently used. This is accessed by a separate front door around to the left of our front door.

A beautiful light airy comfortable space to stay and explore the area. Handy for London and Brighton but equally as nice to sit chill and soak in the surroundings. Sarah made the experience easy peasy. Thank you we look forward to returning again.

Beautiful boat, so much more spacious than expected! My family consists of 2 men who are 6ft8 and 6ft5 and both were able to stay here with ease. Wonderful panoramic views from the living area over shoreham and beautiful decking area to enjoy it all in the sunshine! Sirius the cat is so friendly and loving, he fell asleep on our laps several times! Absoloutely wonderful stay and would 100% recommend!

Response from Sarah:
Im so glad the 6ft plus people were comfortable. we actually have slightly lower than average ceiling height but there is a feeling of space and light which must be nice if you are tall.

We had a great time on the houseboat, which was clean, tidy and very welcoming. Sarah and her family were there to greet us even though we were slightly late due to a few wrong turns. The cat was extremely friendly and the fish fascinating for our son. We would love to stay again on another trip to Shoreham.

Large accommodation ideal for large parties. Good location for a quiet break and great links to Brighton.

Response from Sarah:
We each have different standards of cleanliness. Previous guests have been happy to use our kitchen and lived to tell the tale. There was no rubbish as such we left some recycling out to distinguish between refuse and recycling bins.We left some milk and other food in the fridge but calling it "old food" makes it sound like it was rotting or mouldy which it was not.

We had a lovely stay in your house boat. It was situated perfectly close to Shoreham and all its amenities and a short drive to Brighton. The boat was well equipped and we enjoyed a lovely bbq in the evening watching the sunset. A very pleasant stay.
