The Space

Ours is a sweet old Victorian Farm house built in 1878. Located in sunny Santa Cruz on the Central coast of California just an hour south of San Francisco and an hour north of Monterey, it's a great location for exploring the surrounding areas. Amenities include a full newly remodeled kitchen, a party deck with a hot tub, two bicycles, and all the beach supplies you will need. Each of the three bedrooms has a queen size bed. The two upstairs bedrooms share a European style bath with shower, and the master bedroom has its own bathroom. There is an additional half bath with washer and dryer off the kitchen.

Wake up, brew yourselves some coffee from the Santa Cruz Roasting company (beans and half and half provided) and enjoy the hot tub while the air is still cool. If you want to have a beach day, use our coolers, blankets, towels, chairs and beach table - anything you need for a day in the sand and sun.

At night you can gather on the deck around our new gas fire pit- or sit at the Tiki Bar and enjoy a cocktail and one of your favorite shows. There is a standing gas heater to keep you warm if the night is chilly.

A fifteen minute walk in different directions offers many choices of lovely restaurants, good local shopping, superb bakeries and local coffee shops. The beach is just a five minute bike ride away! .

We have lived in our home for almost thirty years, and we love to travel. So when we are out of town - whether for a weekend or a week, we would love for you to enjoy a wonderful Santa Cruz visit. If you love our place and it's not available - inquire anyway - we may just take a spontaneous trip! From $375 nightly-(November-April) price goes up a bit (to $400) in the Summer/Early Fall
and during Holiday weeks. Check calendar and your final accepted Price when booking!

  • Our stay at this lovely home for our daughter's graduation from UCSC could not have been more perfect. Beth and her husband, Dwight, are very gracious hosts. They were always prompt and friendly in their responses to our email correspondence and when we arrived, the house was as portrayed in the listing.

The weather was picture-perfect this past weekend, which enabled us to take full advantage of the hot tub, fire pit, BBQ and back deck picnic table. We arrived late afternoon and found music softly playing to welcome us, which I thought was a very nice touch. They had also left a bottle of champagne to congratulate our daughter on her graduation, along with a snack basket. There were little notes left in places to remind us of things or to let us know where things were, which was very thoughtful. The kitchen was clean and is nicely stocked with everything you need to cook your own meals.

There are 3 bedrooms, each with a large, comfy bed and drawers to store your clothes. Baskets were left on each bed with clean towels and washcloths for us to use. The master bedroom is on the first floor and the other two bedrooms are up a flight of stairs with a shared bathroom. The stairs are a little steep, so anyone with mobility issues should sleep downstairs. The living room has a flat screen TV with cable and we had access to their wireless network. There is also a large counter bar around the kitchen and a huge dining table.

On the back deck, along with the hot tub, fire pit, BBQ and picnic table is an amazing tiki bar that Dwight refers to as his "man cave". It was fully stocked and everyone in our family was quite impressed. We did not take advantage of it on this visit as we had brought plenty of our own provisions, but we may need to return one day just to use it!

From the moment of our arrival we could tell that this was someone's well-loved home and we felt very fortunate that they were willing to share it with us. I cannot say enough about what gracious hosts Beth and Dwight are or how wonderful their Santa Cruz home is. My only regret is that I did not know about this house earlier while my daughter was still in college and I will definitely consider staying here again next time I find myself in Santa Cruz. It is so much nicer and cozier than an impersonal hotel room. Thank-you Beth and Dwight for allowing us into your home and making our stay so special.

  • It’s amazing how much an hour drive out of SF can do for the soul, especially if you’re escaping to Beth’s lovely home. We were two families (4 adults, 2 toddlers, and 1 infant) that were looking for some rest and relaxation (or as much r&r one can expect while vacationing with children). This getaway was exactly what we all needed and the house was exactly what the doctor ordered. After our long drive, we were instantly greeted by the blooming flowers in the front yard. And much to a germaphobe’s relief, the house was also very tidy. There was even a little welcoming basket waiting for us with wine, snacks, and favorite local spots to visit which were within a mile or two of the house. Fresh towels and toiletries were also left in the individual bedrooms. The basket of toys was an immediate hit with our kiddos. In regards to the sleeping arrangement, all of us (including the kiddos) were able to sleep in our own “rooms” comfortably if you take into account the 3 bedrooms with the 3 bathrooms. The kitchen was also fully stocked as was their tiki bar. We would have probably put that to good use except that we were too distracted by their hot tub. In regards to the outdoor cat situation, I am mildly allergic to cats and I was a little concerned about it wanting to come inside, but it wasn’t persistent about coming in if we followed Beth’s instructions about leaving it food and water outside.

All in all, it was an absolutely fabulous place to stay. No complaints whatsoever. As parents with two young toddlers living in the city, letting our kids safely roam in and out of the enclosed front yard and deck was such a simple luxury to enjoy. None of us wanted to leave. We even contemplated changing the locks, but thought better of it. :) Beth was a really great communicator and gracious host. She responded quickly to all of our questions both before and during our stay. We really liked the fact that we were speaking with the owner of the house who took a lot of pride in sharing it with us. You will not find fresh cut flowers, welcoming baskets, or descriptions of family pictures with third party agents.

Thank you, Beth, for sharing your lovely home with us! You certainly made our vacation very memorable. We couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else.

  • Our visit to this quaint farmhouse was enjoyable overall; the house was cozy and quiet, the hot tub relaxing, and the location pretty central. Weather was perfect and parking was easy. This was my first Airbnb experience, so I don't have a basis for comparison, but one thing caught me off guard.

I think Airbnb users should know is that the cat on the property is not just an outdoor cat. This cat is very sweet but insisted on being inside the house from sundown to sunup. This would not be a problem except I am very allergic. My friend is a cat person and so helped care for the cat, which included the cat sleeping on her lap, giving him food and water, and letting him in when he meowed at night, and out at 6am when he meowed loudly every morning. Because of this our trip was not quite as restful and rejuvenating as we had hoped.

    Response from Beth:

    Dear potential visitors-
As my profile indicates- there are no longer any animals here. My poor
little 17 year old cat went away one night and never returned. I'm sure she
went off to be alone and breathe her last breath!

  • We met in Santa Cruz for a girls reunion weekend and to celebrate a bride-to-be. The house was absolutely perfect! It was located in a pretty, quiet part neighborhood. The outdoor space was perfect for dining outside and taking in the weather!
But what really made the experience was Beth and Dwight's hospitality. Everything was clean and comfortable and the welcome baskets were so thoughtful. Beth obviously pays great attention to detail in preparing her home for guests!

  • This was a fabulous place. The house is so cute and Beth had so many welcoming details. there were fresh flowers in every room, snacks, games and information about Santa Cruz. She even left champagne and party favors for my mother's 80th birthday (what we went there to celebrate). i would recommend Beth's place to anyone. there is so much to do in Santa Cruz and Beth' house is the place to stay.

  • Beth was a great and thorough host! We had a great and relaxing time staying at her house during our family vacation. It is a very short driving distance to all that Santa Cruz has to offer -- redwoods, beaches, farmers markets, shopping districts, cafe/restaurants, and grocery stores. Her garden is absolutely AMAZING and we felt so lucky to be hosted by her.

We are a couple of young at heart empty nesters who love to travel and share our love of Santa Cruz with others. We are known for our parties and for creating traditions among our friends and family in Santa Cruz. Married for forty years, we have two beautiful daughters and three grandchildren. Our home is in the Santa Cruz Banana belt which means that when the city is bathed in fog- our front yard may be warm and sunny! We love to make our place available whenever we are away-whether for a weekend or a few weeks.
