About this listing

Small but MASSIVE, our apartment has everything you need for your stay in Rio, including air conditioning, super fast wi-fi, a fully equipped kitchen, an extra-comfortable bed, and 24-hour security, close to all the action in Lapa.

The space

This is NOT your typical vacation rental. This is our home!

We designed and decorated the apartment ourselves, turning what used to be a tiny, dingy bat cave into one of the most colorful and inviting apartments in the area —it even got featured in the city newspaper on a piece about creative use of small spaces. Everything you see here was handpicked, designed, or made by us.

We live here when we don't have guests staying, so it's fully functional and has all the things you could possibly need for your vacation.

If you want to cook while you are in Rio, our kitchen is equipped with stove top, fridge, blender, and all the pots, pans, oils, spices and condiments necessary to cook up something tasty. Don't be fooled by its small size: this little kitchen has fed over 25 people at the same time!

If you are traveling with someone but don't want to share the same bed, we have a comfy futon downstairs, which can be turned into another double bed.

We have air-conditioning, meaning you'll probably not want to leave the apartment on the days where the temperature is over 40 degrees. We also have a small fan upstairs beside the bed to keep you extra cool while you sleep.

Our apartment library includes lots of fiction titles, as well as books on themes as varied as design and farming —at least 70% of which are in English. We also own several Rio guides.

There are two laundromats on our street, one of them just two buildings away.

Guest access

Our apartment will be 100% yours during your stay.

It's on the ground floor of an apartment building, so there will be a doorman on duty 24 hours per day to let you in and out of the building, even if you come back home drunk at 4:53 in the morning. It's the only way to enter the building, meaning our apartment stays super safe.

The building is on a quiet street between the two principal streets in Lapa, Mem de Sá and Riachuelo, close to everything, but away from the drunk people, loud music and piss on the streets that is inevitable on the weekends.

Interaction with guests

We'll be in touch by email to offer you advice on places to visit, and tips on the best shows, gigs, or blocos happening in the city. We can also recommend alternative things to do instead of the usual tourist stuff. Want to know the secret trail to the least crowded waterfall in the city? We can sort you out!

We also made a special guide for our guests with basic information about the apartment and the surroundings. It's a compilation of all our knowledge of living in Lapa for the past 3 years. In there, you'll find all the info about the essentials - banks, supermarkets, transport, etc, as well as our favorite bars and restaurants.

We usually stay nearby, so if you have any problems or something stops working, we can come over right away and sort it out for you.

Other things to note

Come stay where the locals live, in a studio that's lived in.

If you're coming to Rio for a longer period, we can offer you a cheaper rate. Ask us for details!

Combine your stay in Lapa with a visit to our beach house and we'll make you an awesome discount.: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/850990.

This place was great. Couldn't of asked for much more! We were really happy with the the place and how convenient it was. The door man is also so lovely and couldn't of been more of a help!

This is a perfect place to stay. Completely private. Nicely decorated. It's small but they make great use of the space. Nice comfortable loft bed, good shower. The AC and fan keeps it cool, and they have a great guide book to help you get around the city.

I had a pleasant stay at Marcelle & Davog's studio. Although I didn't meet them, they were very communicative and attentive throughout my trip. The studio is comfortable and eclectic, definitely a good option if you're on a budget.

Marcelle and Davog's apartment was as amazing as their owners. The place is really cosy and nicely equipped, and fits perfectly to its description. We had great times there during the carnaval. It is conveniently located close to the sambodromo and to the Lapa arches. The communication with our hosts was perfect. For most of the things, instructions were left on a really useful and nicely done guidebook. They also took time to look for the good blocos ongoing.

Our stay in Marcelle and Davog’s place was wonderful! Their apartment is very cute and comfortable, just as published. Lapa is a great neighborhood, really fun to go out at nights, and with easy access to transportation to every part of the city. Inside the apartment they keep a guide of Lapa and Río, with their suggestions, maps and some tips, which was really helpful. Marcelle is extremely nice and was always available . Highly recommended, thanks a lot!

Cute apartment! Great hosts -- they left an excellent guide (restaurants, sights, transportation...) in the apartment and were available to answer questions and help at any time -- plus, they're super cool people. Highly recommended!

The appartment is just like in the picture. If any problem, they will try to solve as soon as possible. We had a very nice time at Marcelle and Davog's place, and is very close to Santa Teresa. If you have the chance, also try the food tour they offer.
