The Space

Located in the heart of Capitol Hill, Seattle, this completely private studio apartment is perfect for a single traveler or couple.

A separate entrance off of a lush and green back yard garden leads you to a petite space with full amenities. The apartment is an oasis of quiet just a minutes’ walk from some of the best restaurants and bars and cutting edge art in the city. The location is a perfect mix of serene and bustling, urban and sanctuary.

The studio is outfitted with a full, galley kitchen and a spa-like bathroom with a separate w/c, shower and custom, 3x4x4 concrete Japanese soaking tub. There is an extremely comfortable pull out sofa bed in the main room. (really!) We are world travelers and have spent many a night on an uncomfortable bed - you will sleep peacefully on this smartly engineered sofa bed.

The location is an ideal home base for exploring the city: Bus Stop ½ block away, a 15 minute walk to downtown and the Pike Street Market and easy to hail a cab off of Pike or Pine Street to downtown as well.

Capitol Hill is a foodies’ heaven. Choose to eat in one of the dozens of world-class restaurants in the neighborhood – Lark, Marjorie, Restaurant Zoe, Anchovies and Olives, Spinasse, Bario, Sitka and Spruce – the list goes on. If you decide to use the full kitchen and eat in, you can shop in our local, organic co-op or at Melrose Market, where will find purveyors such as the local butcher Rain Shadow Meats, Taylor’s Shellfish, and the cheese shop Calf and Kid.

Art wise, Capitol Hill is the “Greenwich Village” of Seattle. Urban and cutting edge, new visual art, film, theater and dance performances are within walking distance. Witness the flavor of Seattle’s local art scene at Northwest Film Forum, Velocity Dance Center, Washington Ensemble Theater and Annex Theater. Tour new visual art galleries such as Vermillion, Ghost Gallery and Ltd. Art Gallery. Or take a five-minute cab ride to larger art institutions such as Seattle Art Musuem, The Frye Art Muesum, 5th Avenue Theater, ACT Theater, The Symphony, The Paramount, Seattle Theater Group and many more.

The best of Seattle’s bars and coffee houses are also here including iconic coffee shops such as Stumptown, Café Vita, Kaladi, Victrola, Café Ladro, The Oddfellows Café and Bauhaus Books and Coffee. For famous spirits you can walk to Oola Distillery for a tour of the facility or enjoy finely crafted cocktail from bars such as Canon, Tavern Law, Liberty, Artusi and Sun Liquor.

If social dancing is your thing, The Tin Table and Century Ballroom are a five-minute walk away, where you can eat an excellent meal with a fantastic cocktail or glass of champagne and dance the night away any night of the week featuring classes and social dances in West Coast Swing, Salsa and Tango.

  • This was our first AirBnB experience and it was fantastic. We were looking for a place to stay for a 4th of July softball tourney and Kt's was just the right place. She was an amazing host.

From the start she was very open, inviting and clear on how everything works. The Private Garden Apt looks just like it does on the listing and there was more than we expected: fresh eggs from their chickens (these were delicious), a wonderful sleep kit was provided, and a soothing sound machine to dull the senses. The soaking tub was really nice to use after a long day of softball.

It's close to Capital Hill so we were steps away from the lively Seattle night life in Capital Hill, walked to Pike's Market during the day and Lake Union Park to see the fireworks at night. We caught a cab from the market and it was less than $10 to get back.

This was an awesome place to stay!

  • My boyfriend and I visited Seattle in July and stayed at Kt's place for 2 nights and we absolutely loved it. The apartment was so comfortable, clean, quiet, and of course we loved the tub! We saw Kt and her husband briefly when we were checking in, and it was all a very smooth process! This was also the perfect location, we were so close to lots of amazing restaurants and places we wanted to go. It was also very easy to get downtown to the market and elsewhere. I highly recommend staying here!

  • Stayed only briefly in this little basement suite. Located in Capitol Hill, this small, quaint apartment has everything you need to be comfortable for a short stay. The soaking tub is an added plus. Unlike other reviewers, I found the bed uncomfortable. It should be noted that if you prefer a softer sleep, KT has a foam topper to improve the comfort, I wasn't aware of this until after the fact. We didn't cook there at all, but I did notice that the kitchen looked well equipped, however nowhere to sit and eat if that's what you are after. The parking was awesome. Nice to have a designated spot. Thanks KT!

  • The place is very nice and cosy and has a wonderful garden. We loved to stay here. KT gave us fresh eggs from her chicken, what a surprise in this big city. Many thanks to her and her husband.

  • Fabulous area and delightful apt complete with gently murmuring chickens in garden. Easy to walk or catch local bus. Didn't meet Kt but Kirby helped care for our bags when we arrived too early to check in. Would stay again!

  • The Private Garden Apt was adorable and convenient. We were here to get married on a ferry in the San Juan Islands and we made this our first home base to pick up our marriage license and meet with our officiant before heading up into the islands.

Of course, we also loved the soaking tub. The craftsman style of the place gave it a special feel.

  • This place was so awesome and super cute! Very efficient use of space without compromising on comfort. The hosts even left us fresh eggs from the chicken they raise right outside the unit (don't worry, you don't hear them at all). Place was clean and in an EXCELLENT location. Everything in Capitol Hill was within walking distance - would have stayed longer if I could. Oh and there's nothing better than coming home and using that soaking tub after walking around all day. Highly recommend staying here!

  • Lovely separate apartment in a great location. Could not be faulted.

  • We had a great time in KT's Appartement. The location was nice and cozy and the bathtub was awesome. Capitol Hill is really great and you can discover it all by foot. We enjoyed the personal parking slot, this is really rare in Seattle.
Thank you for the fresh eggs, they were delicious. We loved Seattle so hopefully we will be back next time.

  • KT was very friendly; we met her on the first day and got good recommendations about the city and the neighborhood witch is close to the center (about 15 m walk) and just around the corner of the University. Don’t miss CANON a very popular place said to be on of Seattle's best bars and very very good food as well. Keep in mind that the place is sort of a basement (with windows) and you will sleep on a sofa bed. The bathroom is dark and there is no place to have breakfast except outside and if its cold or rainy…We had fresh eggs and basic breakfast products.

    Response from Kt:

    Hi Boaz,
Your review is a bummer for us. You make our place sound like we are hosting people in a dark basement on an old sofa bed with. It is exactly what people worry about when they use Airbnb and exactly what we are NOT doing. And it is hard to imagine anyone would call fresh eggs from someones chicken "basic" provisions.
I am sorry you felt like our place deserved such a bad review. It definitely hurts our status on Airbnb when we get a review like this.

About
My husband, Kirby and I live in Seattle WA and have been active in the Capitol Hill arts/food/cocktail revolution for the last 20 years. I am a nationally respected director/choreographer ((website hidden)) and run an art space here called 10 degrees ((email hidden)). Kirby is the owner/master distiller of a craft distillery called Oola Distillery ((website hidden)) and was also an international art dealer with a focus on antiquities from the South Pacific ((website hidden)). We have both traveled the world for our work and know first hand how a unique, comfortable and private space can make or break a journey to a new place. Kirby and I are into contemporary visual and performance art, fine food, cocktails, wine and architecture / building. We are consummate hosts that value attention to detail, a clean and uncluttered atmosphere, privacy and an insiders "road map" to the heart of a city that can only be accessed by those who know it well. We have a love for personal craftsmanship and architecture and look for accommodations that are unique to each city that we travel to - (we are not fans of ye old Hampton Inn!). We like to stay in places that are well appointed and satisfyingly comfortable but also feel like a "find" - a place that has its own distinctive character. Our favorite cities aside from Seattle are Amsterdam, San Francisco, NYC (where we had an apartment for 15 years), Brussels, Paris and San Diego. We also love rural areas such as the San Juan's and Eastern Washington (Waitsburg).
