Set in the South Downs National Park, in the idyllic Itchen valley, this two bedroom, newly renovated self contained cottage is a perfect rural retreat or an excellent base for exploring the south of England. Close to Winchester, one hour from London

The space

This is a special place to stay with underfloor heating, gorgeous antiques and finest quality bedding.

It is a newly converted cottage with a kitchen leading on to a terrace which overlooks the lawned courtyard and countryside beyond. Also downstairs there is a large sitting room with a wood burner and a bathroom which has a walk in shower. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double and a single. In the winter months this is a cosy place to stay with the woodburner and underfloor heating. The cottage is in Hampshire countryside, 1/4 mile from some of the best fishing on the River Itchen and Avington golf course is also nearby. From the cottage you can walk to The Bush Inn which has a renowned restaurant.

You can cook in the cottage, walk to the pub for an excellent meal, drive 3 miles to the busy market town Alresford with good restaurants, cafe's and pubs or 20 minutes to the cathedral city of Winchester with the Christmas market and a wide variety of restaurants from the Michelin starred Black Rat to Rick Steins and River Cottage.
Breakfast is supplied in the cottage.

The beauty of this location is that you can shut off for a few days and enjoy the peace of the South Downs National Park or you can use it as a base to explore the south of England. It takes 15 minutes to get to major roads or a main line station which can take you to London, Oxford and Bath as well as the coastline of southern England.

Jane was very responsive and helpful in everything that we needed. Even if you do not have a car, a taxi isn't that far away. We had a few local foods that were awaiting us as well.

This is a lovely place to stay for anyone visiting the area. Don’t be fooled by the relative proximity to a motorway and Winchester - this is a really quiet corner of the world. It is particularly good for people with children and/or dogs - the large but secure front garden was a big hit with our dog! Jane is a great host, and there were some much-appreciated little touches, like fresh croissants, to welcome us when we got there. Overall a great place to stay and we will look forward to going back! Winchester is ten minutes away, Alresford even closer and very nice, and there’s lots to explore in the area.

Jane greeted us at the door. The cottage was immaculate and there was a wide range of starter foods, particularly appreciated the honey. Jane left a suggestion list on places to dine and these were great, we particularly enjoyed the Bush Inn (went twice). The area was everything one would expect of the English countryside, including sheep, cows, pigs and the owls at night. We would definitely return.

We had a lovely stay at Yavington. The cottage is very well decorated with antiques, and very comfortable. THe wood burner was nice on a cold evening. Internet was easy to set up and was reliable during our stay. Farm life surrounds the cottage, but was unobtrusive and adds a very nice touch of country ambiance. We especially liked the little white hen that came to the door each morning looking for a leftover breakfast morsel. We would gladly come back next time we're in the area.

My wife, daughter and I all had a wonderful stay. Thank you Jane for making us feel so welcome and looking after us with a wonderfully stocked kitchen. The beds were very comfortable and the whole apartment was spotless. We look forward to the opportunity to stay again in the future. There are lots of paths for walking and birding. We would note that when visiting such a wonderful rural retreat during an English winter it is usually a soggy affair. We would recommend visitors bring some wellies and binoculars to help enjoy the countryside.

Super peaceful and lovely retreat for the weekend. The cottage is set in a wonderful part of Hampshire, with plenty of wildlife and walks to explore. The cottage is fantastically designed, we really liked it .. Would definitely return for a longer visit.

We had a really good stay at this cottage. The furniture and decor was comfortable and stylish and the cottage was perfectly warm and cosy for a winter retreat. It is situated about 15 minutes from Winchester but still retains a countryside location and feel which was just what we wanted. Jane and Max were also great hosts who made sure we had adequate supplies and that our stay was going well. Thanks again.
