The Neighborhood

Our road is a quiet cul-de-sac, in a beautiful, leafy, peaceful area of Swanage. It's a 10-15 minute walk above the town centre, railway, bus station and the beautiful, soft, sandy beaches.

Next to our house there are various footpaths leading to Durlston Country Park and Castle, Townsend Nature Reserve and the South Coast Path. You can walk the South Coast Path to Studland, Sandbanks and Poole, or go in the other direction to Worth Matravers (Square & Compass Pub), Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge Bay and Lulworth Cove.

The Black Swan Inn/Pub is only a short walk down the hill, it serves a great fish pie, mussels, hamburgers and delicious reasonably priced food (vegetarian and gluten free options).

Two of our German guests had no use of a car from the day they landed at Southampton airport until they returned to Germany. Instead of driving they wanted to hike, use the bus, or take the train. One day, they walked from our house to Poole Harbour via the ferry at Studland, at Poole Quay they caught the bus back to Swanage. On another occasion, we drove them to Lulworth Cove with a picnic, they then walked back to our house along the South Coast Path, arriving late that afternoon, exhausted, but elated. Several times they walked to Wareham and Corfe Castle and The Square & Compass pub at Worth Matravers.
