Welcome to Rio de Janeiro!
I stayed at Alex's apartment for 5 month's as a PUC student (only 5 min walk from campus). I really enjoyed my stay. Alex is a friendly guy and a great host. He lent me his bike during the stay which was really convenient. The apartment is really nice. The room itself was really spacious and the bed was comfortable. I can recommend anybody to stay here, as a student or as a traveller.
I stayed at Alex's apartment for two weeks in September 2013. The room at the weekly rate is very good value for Rio. Just outside the door you can catch a bus to the Zona Sul or the bus station which is convenient. However I found Gavea as a neighborhood to be somewhat inconvenient as I was taking dance classes at night in different neighborhoods throughout Rio -- so I spent a lot of time on the bus. The room is private but has sliding doors (as opposed to a door that locks/shuts) that open up into the common space of the kitchen and living room. The vibe at Alex's is more of a roommate situation than a bnb. There were several long term tenants living there during my stay. He's had people who've rented the room in the past who didn't respect the space and so as a result there are reminders about washing dishes and keeping the bathroom clean. All in all, I had a good stay and appreciated having an affordable private room in a neighborhood where I felt safe as a solo female traveler.
Nancy is saying untruth things about my place.
For possible future guests, before you read this long lines, please read all the other reviews, they speak for themselves.
She booked trough airbnb for a week and requested to stay another week. I guess she liked my place, otherwise she would not extend for a week. There are so many options in Rio.
1 - About who lives in the house.
I am the only as a "tenant" in the house….
While Nancy was at the house, there were me and 2 more people: Mila, a very cool and quiet student from Canada (who moved from the house while Nancy was here). Renata, a TV producer who leaves the house to work in the morning and comes back around 9pm (she spends most the time in her boyfriend's house, we barely see her). And me, who at the time, was in between two jobs, shooting films and editing…
2 - Door: as opposed to what She said, this room has a locker, there are lockers on the sliding wooden doors.… she should have asked me for help.
3 - The house: she also misunderstood something else, this house does not have either a "BNB or a roommate vibe": this house does not fits in a formula or in any specific vibe that Nancy had expected to find. And that's why people usually like it so much. It is a quiet and peaceful house. While I am here, I will be either working or watching films… I work in the field a lot also... People who come here most the time are busy with their own life, studying, researching or working, but when we feel like talking or hang out, we do, besides it, we respect each other's space...
4 - Location: Gávea is in the heart of Zona Sul, it is the next neighborhood to Leblon! One of the best places in Rio. Spending time in buses have nothing to do with Gavea. Anywhere you are in Rio, will make you spend time in buses, unless you choose a bike to go around town. I ride my bicycle. From Gavea you can go to a lot of places with a bike. Mila mentioned above was riding my other bike around town as well (she borrowed it from me during her 3 months here)
So, As you said, Nancy, "All in All", we had a good time talking about multimedia storytelling, etc, I told you about places to go in Rio, also about a fisherman village. You told me about your life and travelling...
You were nice, but I was surprised about your review. I recommend hosting her, I just hope you don't be disappointed after hosting her and reading her review... it did not matche what was going on here... I guess we had a totally different experience.
Nancy, I wish you to be happier in your future, I hope you can be a grateful and a cheerful guess.
Staying with Alex was very comfortable, the house was clean, quiet and he was most helpful assisting with all my questions.
This is a residential area not a tourist spot which I preferred and extremely safe.
It backs onto the gorgeous view of the mountains, IMS gallery 2mins up the road where you can relax in the tranquil garden surroundings and soak in some art all free of charge.
The house is a 30min walk to Leblon beach, it is a pleasant walk along the canal or if you prefer transport buses are literally outside the building running frequently to everywhere you need to be.
You also have Gavea shopping centre 5mins down the road where you have a choice of places to eat and shop.
As a woman I had a lovely stay and highly recommend this lovely abode situated in heart of Gavea Rio.
The house is in a very safe and nice location of Rio. Well comunicated: there are bus and taxi stops in front of the buiding. The flat is calm, clean and big. Alex is a very reliable and friendly host. He is always willing to help. My experience was great and I highly recommend it.
it was good. Alex was a cool and helpfull guy, and by giving us a bed on such short notice helped us out massively. Highly recommend!
