Outdoor / indoor living in an amazing setting perched over the jungle and ocean.
Newer contemporary open living 2 bedroom private house on 15 acres with incredible views of sunset, Dominicalito fishing beach and Manuel Antonio. Bedrooms are glassed in but the living space is open. Wildlife viewing abounds. This 1700 sq. ft. home is perched above the jungle at the top of 2 slopes, so it has an incredible breeze that cools it off about 20 degrees. We have a very flat front and back lawn for easy outside use. On 3 sides there is a protected drop off so you look over the canopy. We are at the top of the foothills over the beach and behind us sits an old growth forested mountain cliff. Adventurous location on the mountain with a gravel road and a drive through a creek that has footbridge in case of emergencies.
There are two bedrooms that are glassed in. The upstairs bedroom is very large, with a huge veranda/ yoga platform overlooking the jungle, canopy and ocean. There is a custom built queen bed with 2 single mattresses in case you need them. You can sleep up to 4 people in this bedroom. There is also a downstairs 1/2 bathroom suite with sunset view and a custom queen bed.
The downstairs bedroom has a custom queen bed with sliding glass doors leading to the garden. This bedroom has a 1/2 bath indoors.
Open air living / dining/ kitchen space with custom modern furniture. Lock down bodega in the kitchen allows for good security in the open downstairs living area. Covered laundry room with a washer (dryer hookup available for long term renters who bring dryers). We air dry our laundry on our lines. Wireless 2gb internet is available with $30 extra charge. One can usually (website hidden), Facetime and watch videos with this but you will often have to reset it, especially after a storm. This house has a 10 minute drive up from the coastal highway and Dominicalito beach. 13 minute drive to the market. 14 minute drive to Dominical beach town that has small stores, restaurants, and a bank. Both Dominical and Dominicalito are great surf beaches.
South by 15 minutes is Uvita with lots of banks, restaurants, 2 large grocery stores, mechanics, medical daytime clinics, pharmacies, and the gas station. 10 minutes south of Uvita is Ojochal, which has many Europeans and great restaurants. 20 minutes south of Ojochal is Cortez with hospital. 45 minutes north of our house is Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park.
Long term rentals are negotiable
This house is great for independent and adventurous people who want to get away in a very private abode, have beautiful views and wildlife, yet have the town and ocean 10-15 minutes away in a car. 4wd drive is deeply recommended.
There is a tv with no reception hooked up to a dvd player and a dvd collection.
Interaction with Guests
I manage the house from the States so I try to respond to any questions as soon as possible, which is usually quite quick unless I am out of range with my phone wi-fi. You will have the phone number of my very friendly part-time Costa Rican caretaker, Marvin, who only speaks Spanish. Either you can call him or I can call him if there is something he can help with. We have a friend, Victoria who can has a concierge service for tours, massage, rentals, etc. I will be sending you her info, so if you'd like, you can call her. I try to help with restaurant suggestions, etc if you need this. Most of our clients are wanting privacy and independence though, and are not excepting hotel like services at the house itself. There are tons of business in the town for Spanish and surf lessons, and to rent surf boards, paddle boards, etc. There are horseback riding waterfall tours, canyoning tours, zipline tours, and much more.
The house is located in a very uniquely private end of a mountain road in the jungle. We have a few neighbors on the top of the hill with us. You will have a quick drive up or down from the main town and will have access to restaurants, rental shops, stores, etc
Please allow yourself enough time to arrive during daylight. It is the jungle with no addresses, a dirt road climbing up, and you will be a lot happier finding our house the first time during daylight. (5:30-6:00 is sunset) Even though Dominical is only 2.5-3 hours from San Jose, driving in Costa Rica can be quite tiring. I recommend pulling over for dinner the first night in Dominical before coming up to the house. This way you can become better situated with the kitchen when you wake up on you first beautiful morning.
Other Things to Note
You are in the jungle and in an open house. Sometimes there will be very few insects, sometimes there will be much more. They can fly in and out of the house. Sometimes the jungle is quiet and sometimes it is loud. The dry season January - March brings on cicada sounds that can be loud. There are animals in the jungle, but they tend to stay out of our main open living area unless you leave food and garbage out at night. Every day we see toucans and parrots, occasionally the monkeys, and sometimes really interesting animals. Geckos will be in the house, and occasionally a toad might visit. The bedrooms and bathrooms are the only part of the house fully protected by glassed in windows with screens (as pictured).
Please bring your own beach towels and keep all house towels and sheets clean, hung, and in the house. There is no maid service during your stay unless you request it for an extra charge. Please turn off all fans and lights when gone or not in room and keep all doors and kitchen / personal items locked when gone.
My boyfriend and I spent an amazing week at Jillian and Jeff's jungle villa. Their home is absolutely stunning, with an incredible panoramic view of the ocean and jungle canopy from her yard. The sunsets at night were breathtaking, and the evening was the best time to watch the toucans, parrots and monkeys around her property - we even caught a sloth lazily eating his dinner in a nearby tree!
Jillian provides such helpful information and advice before your arrival, and her contact in Dominical is excellent for organizing any day trips or activities, especially if you are without a phone to make reservations yourself. Everything and anything you would want to do is within a short drive from her place. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience in the Costa Rican jungle!
This house is modern, clean, and comfortable. You will definitely need a 4WD vehicle to get to it, but the remoteness of the location made it feel private and secure. Still less than 10 minutes (less than 2 miles, but down a steep road) to get to Dominicalito beach, which is beautiful and almost empty during the week. The house has an amazing view, a beautiful garden, and lots of wildlife, including monkeys and toucans. Jillian sends a really helpful info sheet for the house and things to do locally. We couldn't have had a more perfect vacation, I definitely want to go back! Thank you!
Our trip to CR was capped off by a final week at the house in Dominicalito and it could not have been any more impressive. Jillian has done a wonderful job in creating an environment that respects nature, exudes comfort and had us wondering who the architect was as we were blown away by the house. Her directions, area suggestions and overall guidance were spot on and she covered everything so well that we felt right at home the moment we arrived. The grounds were impeccable, the place was extremely clean (not easy to do in the jungle) and her caretaker Marvin was an absolute pleasure. We're back home now and we miss the place incredibly, we hope to return there again sometime soon. Wonderful job by our host, thank you Jillian for creating something wonderful.
This is an amazing home. "Our" room spanned the entire top floor-- a HUGE bedroom, great bathroom and shower and a beautiful balcony. We felt like we were on top of the jungle. The open area on the main floor was just wonderful-- we were entertained by toucans in the evening, a quick drive to a great beach. Jillian is a great host, her recommendations for places to eat and to shop are right on. Her kitchen is well equipped and the entire home is really well kept up. Jillian offers help arranging tours through her concierge, Victoria. We found Victoria responsive and very very helpful. She arranged two great, incredible, wonderful tours for us. One, snorkeling with Dolphin Tours, the other, white water rafting with Dominical Surf Adventures and the owner of that company, Henry-- were two of the best we've ever been on. Jillian's home is elegantly simple... my husband and I found it to be a magical setting.
The house is gorgeous, ideally located and very well maintained. We had a wonderful time and our kids enjoyed every bit of it. The view is a dreamy postcard with yellow/pink sunsets on the right, isla de cano on the left. Colorful birds and cool bugs pay polite visits without being annoying. This place has been our garden of Eden for 8 days, we were very sad to leave and will come back for sure.
Great place! Great people! The house is amazing and the view is even better! Wonderful to wake up in the morning overlooking the ocean and listening to the howler monkeys off in the distance! Highly recommend. Only thing lacking maybe is a pool...but that is made up for by driving 2 mins down the rode and swimming in the most beautiful natural waterfall pool, was a daily stop for us!
this place looks a little medieval from the front but it's pure tropics. first, the view cannot be imagined from the pictures.... it's a once in a lifetime experience, with a fifty mile view of Cano Island and the Osa Peninsula. Closer, the view of the monkeys and exotic bird species in the trees surrounding the property is an all day delight..toucans, hawks and many other visitors.
The house is designed to put you in touch with the rich environment, with it's open air downstairs and huge porch upstairs. all the creature comforts are there.
The road to the house is a bit adventurous, through a small river and up the mountain in your 4x4. There is a fabulous waterfall just off the road which you shouldn't miss.
Jillian is very accommodating and makes sure your experience is perfect. This place is a gem you're going to return to many times.
