The Space

Hidden in one of Chile's least known areas is Icalma Lake, a lake located in the Andes of the La Araucanía Region of Chile, only a couple of kilometres from the border with Argentina, the northern coast of this lake holds one of the last native southern rain forest pockets due to the protection given by the government to the indigenous community lands of the people who live there.

In the midst of this paradise we have a little discrete cabin, two floors high it overlooks the lake, and is a hundred meters from one of the only sand beaches this lake offers.

A place of true silence and nature I recommend a retreat to this place to anyone.

The cabin accommodates up to 7 people, it has two rooms with double beds, and one room with a bunk bed (two single beds) plus one bed in the reading room on the second floor.

The cabin has warm water, a full working bathroom, gas lights and a fireplace to enjoy the nights of card games and reading. It does not have electricity which makes the place have a unique silence I have experiences in no other place.

Down by the beach are two kayaks available for kayaking plus a row boat, although these may be used by the local family that lives in the surrounding area, which will help if needed to clean the cabin or as guides towards the surrounding areas (only if desired and for a separate fee).

The cabin is accesible by car or by the local passenger ferry that crosses the lake three times a week.

  • The experience here was very good. My host Camilla made every effort to insure my extended stay (almost 3 weeks) was comfortable. A large, private room with a private bathroom was just what I was looking for and exactly what I found. I also had open access to the kitchen in the event that I wanted to prepare meals. The apartment is located on a direct bus line that takes you to the metro and direct access to anywhere in Santiago. Unlike many options in Santiago, Camilla actually has heat also...what a relief!

  • Camila was an outstanding host, being very helpful with an inconvenient we had, and allowing us to accommodate a second guess on short notice. Thank you Camila.

  • I would 100% recommend staying here! I had the most wonderful time. It was my first time traveling abroad alone, and Nancy and Rodrigo are generous, gracious hosts who made me feel so comfortable and welcome in their home. The apartment is clean with lots of light in the bedroom, and I was able to use the kitchen all the time. The neighborhood is very convenient (grocery stores, convenience stores nearby) and very safe at night. There are two very adorable cats who also make you feel welcome.

Thank you for the wonderful stay!

I felt at home from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. She is very nice, interesting and she likes to interact with her guests but if you want to be alone in your room that's also fine. The house is situated in front of Parque Bustamante which is a very pleasant walk to the museums and most of the points of interest. It's aso 2 blocks from the Metro where you can go virtually anywhere you like. For these reasons and the great price I think this would be an excellent choice she visiting this beautiful city.

  • I stayed in this room for 2 nights. It was just as it is seen on the photos, nice and clean. Camilla, who is in charge of organizing Mireya's apartment for airbnb guests, is very nice and quite helpful. Mireya, on the other hand, is a very nice lady. She has little to no english but we managed to speak somehow with my spanish, which is made up of max 100 words. The apartment's location is good, and its safe. Keep in mind that you have to change lines to get to the center.

  • I had a really good time staying at this place. It's close to Barrio Italia, which is an artsy and chic part of town. I had a good time walking a few blocks to see the art galleries and stop by the quaint coffee shops. The apartment was nice and spacious, and the guy who lives there is friendly and gives good advice about what's around in the neighborhood. Camila is very friendly and welcoming. Even though she doesn't live in the apt., she made sure to be there for when I checked in (I arrived a bit late in the evening), and made recommendations of what to see and do in Santiago. We had a good chat and talked about our respective jobs and about Chile. Overall, I had a very good stay and I recommend Camila and her apartment!

  • Loved this apartment! The fabulous location made up for it's little quirks such as limited internet access, no hair dryer and lots of windows (with no curtains) which didn't leave very much space to walk around undressed! It's an old school building with lots of charm....would definitely stay here again. The artwork as well was a pleasure to wake up to every morning. And Camila made for a wonderful host!

  • I stayed for a month at this lovely apartment in Providencia for almost a month, and it was perfect. The location is close to many nice restaurants and bars, as well as to Lines 1 and 5 subways.

Camila is welcoming and super responsible - I'd highly recommend her as a host. Not only did she make sure I was very comfortable (for instance, providing me extra towels when I asked!), but even invited me to her place nearby to hang out. Thanks so much, Camila!

My name is Camila, I'm 30 years old and I have a B.A in Biotechnology from Universidad de Chile. As work I freelance and am currently doing my thesis, I usually work a lot, partially from home. In my spare time I enjoy watching series or a movie, going out to eat, watch a band or go dancing. I enjoy having people floating around my apartment since it feels like it becomes more alive. I love sharing with people from different cultures. To have conversations over home prepared diverse meals. I have several listings, some of them are located at my apartment and the others at my friends apartments: Andres, Nancy, and Mireya, whom I know very well and trust and also know that are wonderful hosts themselves. I hope all my guests feel very welcome but with the freedom and independence to do what they may.
