Awesome 2 BDR Corktown/Mexicantown!

Apartment - Entire home/apt · 25th St, Detroit, MI 48216, United States

The Space

A perfect place to stay while visiting Detroit! A spacious and newly renovated two bedroom apartment, that comfortably sleeps up to eight people. Aprox. 900sq. ft. and safely located on the border of the Corktown/ Mexicantown neighborhoods, just minutes away from the heart of downtown Detroit.
One of the most densely populated enclaves in Detroit. Almost anything you need can be found within ½ of a mile: the Ambasador Bridge to Canada, La Gloria Bakery, Astro and Café con Leche Coffeehouses, CVS Pharmacy, etc. Throw a rock and you will hit the Warren and Wetmore/ Reed and Stem designed Michigan Central Station, the abandoned train station that may well be the most photographed building in Detroit ( situated across the street from the world famous Slows BBQ.) Honeybee Market on Bagley St. is the local’s favorite (they have the best guacamole). Just a block from many awesome restaurants: Los Galanes (get the cazuela de mariscos), Evie’s Tamalies, Xochimoco (open till 2 every night), and Taqeria Lupita (get the al pastor tacos)

  • I had a great stay at Kristin's. It was situated near the heart of Corktown and Mexicantown, the place itself was clean and well-kept, and great communication from the hosts made the check-in and check-out process painless.

  • As titled, the apartment is indeed awesome, and the hosts kind and communicative. (Expect rapid response to your questions and logistical coordination needs). It has all the amenities needed, it is spacious, and it is relatively close to most major attractions in Detroit. It is located on the border of what seems like a potentially unsafe block, but this is probably true for most areas of Detroit these days. We were there with our kids and did not threatened in any way. In fact, the place is a short walk away from great Mexican restaurants, a few minutes drive from a terrific produce, and 3-4 miles from major Detroit attractions.

It's not a 5-star place because of the car noise level. Situated near a highway, there is no escape from noisy traffic. In the living room this was more of an ambiance than a disturbance. However, both bedrooms are noisy, with one of them particularly noisy at night. I suspect that after a few nights you can get used to car traffic sounds, but it was somewhat challenging for a brief stay.

Aside from the noise, I would recommend staying in this apartment.

  • My first AirBnB experience and it was very nice. Great location for me and the apt was clean and comfortable. I'll stay there again when I'm in town!

  • We had a great time at Kristen's place! Her caretaker was the sweetest woman ever! Such a wonderful trip, would surely stay again! The place was very clean and cozy.

  • Our stay at Kristin's place was excellent. We were warmly welcomed by Heather the caretaker and the place was in perfect order. Everything we needed was available. The accommodations were very comfortable and the location is excellent, easy to find, and close to many places of interest. Many thanks to Heather for her help and to Kristin for providing a great place from which to visit Detroit!

  • Nice modern place with a bit of old school charm. Close to downtown and freeways, great central location!

  • Here's what I posted on (website hidden) about my stay: Nothing fancy but at $70 @ night I'll take this Airbnb two-bedroom apartment over a hotel room at twice or triple the price any time. A hotel room may have a fridge but never a note-on-the-fridge like the one below. (I guess there's no way to post a photo with a review, but I snapped the welcome note on the fridge that was helpful as well as welcoming.) Good wireless and even some nice speakers to connect your phone or laptop to if you bring your own music. This place is especially handy if you're spending time in southwest Detroit, as I was, but there's so little traffic in Detroit that it's a quick shot to downtown or anywhere else in town. Bear in mind that the city does not plow sidestreets -- and nobody seemed to be shoveling sidewalks -- so prepare yourself for some careful navigation by car and on foot.

  • Kristin's place was absolutely wonderful. There were 4 of us sharing the space and it was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated.

Heather, her property caretaker, was there when we arrived and was very hospitable. She showed us around the apartment and gave us an overview of the neighborhood and city highlights.

I would highly recommend staying here the next time you're in Detroit!

About
I moved to Detroit in 2003 and have enjoyed leaving no stone unturned in exploring this city's people, amazing architecture, expansive landscape, incredible music, and creative spirit. It has been exciting watching Detroit grow and develop exponentially in the past few years. Cliché as it may sound, Detroit is becoming the cooler and less expensive Brooklyn. I love meeting new and people from all walks of life and am inspired by other people's stories. I crew on a Catalina 27 sailboat racing as early and late in the season as weather permits. I shareboard a horse at a barn that rescues an impressive menagerie of animals and is always growing, volunteer, travel as much as possible, and spend spend an inordinate amount of time fawning over great food and wine. the rest of the time, I'm probably trying to figure out how to fix my puch maxi luxe. Once I'm done with that, you would likely find me at an underground party dancing long into the night. I worked in the service industry for many years, ran an exclusive private club called The Breakfast Club (an exclusive combination of high end chefs making awesome food and some of the best electronic music Dj's in the city.) And run my own consulting and events company. When it comes to hidden gems in the city of Detroit, my knowledge runs the gamut. I can help direct you to food, music, art, culture, nightlife, you name it. Come see what Detroit has to offer, you will be surprised! My AirBnB associate Heather Kyles is a Detroit native, and has her own theater company (Playin' Around Theater). She also has many years in the service industry and teaching in the Detroit area. Both of our knowledge of the city will help you get the full experience when trying to navigate Detroit and it's unique offerings. Drop us an email if you want a nice sized place to stay in a convenient location while in the Motor City!
