  • Marina was a great host! She offered to pick us from the ferry and also dropped us off at the airport! She gave us a full tour of the island and showed us all the highlights and even helped us rent a car. The accommodation is extremely close to one of the busier night life beach streets. The room was clean, spacious and we had privacy when we needed it.

It's safe to say Marina goes above and beyond as an Airbnb guest.

  • Proud to be Marina and Rubens first swedish guests we will really recommend a stay there. Marina was an exellent hostess. Helpfull and kindely. She drew us with her car around the area. Picked us up att the airport and drew us to our next hotell in cenang after our three nights at their nice house. Thanks for everything. Best regards from us.

  • Staying in Damai 1 with Marina and her family was the best experience in my 3 weeks on Langkawi. Marina puts so much attention in details making the place feel like home. The rooms all have a personal touch, very clean, fully equiped, lots of privacy, but Marina is always around the corner for help, advice or just a pleasant chat. It is a little bit away from the noise and busy streets from Pantai Cenang, but easy to reach by bike or scooter (using bikes are free, scooter is for rent). Marina offers a peaceful, homely and quiet place where you can see and experience the kampung life of Langkawi. A perfect base to explore the island, with all modern conveniences around (you don't miss A/C at all) for a price that is more than worth the experience.

  • It's homelike. We love it. Marina is kindly and let us so easy to blend in the local conditions and customs.

  • We had a wonderful stay in Damai 1 in Marina`s garden! It started with a warm welcome - so we felt like home from the beginning. On arrival we got everything we needed for good breakfast and we loved the fruits. We enjoyed the friendly and peaceful atmosphere. It is the right place for regeneration and for people, who love to be in natural surroundings. On New Years Eve we were invited to an open door party with tratitional food, it was so nice. Marina had always an open ear for our questions and we learned a lot.
Thank you very much for the wonderful time and we hope to meet again!

  • If Air BnB do awards, then Marina would sweep the board.

Her beautiful accomodation is situated in an idyllic part of the Langkawi countryside whilst also being in close proximity to the local town and beach. The apartment was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean.

Marina invited us for dinner with her family on the first night and the food was some of the best we had in Malaysia. Marina also took our laundry to the launderette and picked it up again! She also arranged for a hire car to pick us up and then came out with her car at 10pm when I had to drop it off to give me a lift back. She went out of her way to be helpful at every opportunity.

A fantastic experience in every way, I will definitely be returning.

  • It's great....you can tell that from all the previous reviews. It sounds idyllic from Marina's description but the experience is better than the words. Marina goes beyond the expected to help. She picked us up from the airport and returned us to it when we left. She tells you where everything is to visit, runs you into town, the list could be endless. We rented her scooter for a couple of days, it was very convenient and a fabulous way to see Langkawi. Damai 1 was clean , comfortable, private ,tasteful accommodation with some free snacks, and good wifi.... and Rubens a good lad too :)

  • Marina and Ruben are the most wonderful hosts. We felt like family friends right from the first minute! This location is fabulous, close to Cenang Beach (under 10 minutes by car or scooter) and set among rice paddies. Thank you for making our Langkawi experience one of the best we've had, and we will be back for sure!

  • Marina and Ruben is great, very kind, always very helping, friendly, informative, and persons of good tastes. I was travelling with my wife and little kid, only 15 months old, and we never felt like in a distant place from home. As soon I get out of the departure counter, the first face I see is Marina. She came to receive us, wearing a white flower so that I can recognize. After a short nap at her place, she took us to the shops to buy foods and showed us the important places nearby. We also hired a small car for the whole stay in Langkawi. Well there was a complementary basket full of fruits, rice and dal, spices to cook, a bottle of water, and many more. The whole place is decorated with great taste and innovation. Marina advised us every now and then regarding food, places to visit with small kid, and so on. Not only Marina, but also her husband Mr. Ruben is a great personality. He helped me with returning the car and getting the deposit refund. I will recommend my friends and family and all the members here willing to visit Langkawi to stay with Marina and Ruben.

  • We stayed at Damai 1 studio for 5 nights and we had a wonderful time. Marina was very prompt replying back to my endless queries and was there to pick us up at the jetty. She even took us to the airport to help us rent a car. She was there to greet us every morning and our son could not wait to tell her the stuffs he did the previous day. It was really nice knowing that you were in a new place and have someone to turn to ask for tips. A more wonderful hostess i could not have asked for. Every night we returned back and found that somebody had lit the mosquito coil for us -- such a touching gesture.

We loved the beef rendang that her husband cooked. All in all, we had a wonderful time and will return back when Sid is a little older so he can appreciate the beauty around.

We never got around to saying thank you for the cookies you left for us. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.

About
LOVE reading, gardening, wildlife, smell & sound of rain, open spaces, coffee, hammocks, wind in my face, travel, food & handmade craft. I'm quirky, down-to-earth & practical. Quick to laugh with a dry sense of humour. My husband Ruben the local drug dealer (he's a pharmacist) & I both suffered from burnout living in the city before moving to Langkawi (where we met) & making this our island paradise home. We are both Malaysians (of two different ethnic groups) who grew-up/studied/lived/worked in the UK & US (that's why one speaks with an American accent & the other a Yorkshire accent!). :D We live here with our 4 cats, 3 teenage children, 1 hen, 1 jungle rooster & 1 male turkey surrounded by padi fields, swaying coconut trees, water buffaloes & visiting migratory birds with the beach only 10 minutes by bicycle & 5 minutes by car away from our home. We welcome honest, sincere people who seek a little respite from the stresses of life & would like a taste of living in a quiet village environment surrounded by padi fields & a beautiful view of the Mat Cincang mountain. We live onsite and as a host we're available for help & enquiries but will give you plenty of privacy & space for you to relax & enjoy your holiday. As travellers, we love travel tips from the locals on local sights & experiences! We love to explore or just sit quietly & read a book, drink coffee, soak in the atmosphere of the place we are visiting, are quiet & independent.
