The Space

NOTE: This room is ideal for single travelers staying in town for an extended period. (internship, work, English class). If you are a couple in San Francisco for a short holiday, it is still suitable, but there is an additional charge for the second person. Also check out my other listing, which has a California King bed! An Oasis Amidst Hustle & Bustle

This is the SUN room! Three large west facing windows with lace curtains, warm yellow walls, a comfy queen bed and futon chair for lounging and reading. All in a quiet apartment, just a block from the excitement. The room is very roomy and carpeted.

The bed comes with a snuggly down comforter and towels are supplied. In addition to the futon chair and side table, there is also a desk to do any work or travel planning on. Any longer-term traveler will love the walk-in closet. The three, large west-facing windows make for a very bright and sunny room, especially in the afternoon. This room also has a door to the adjacent bathroom.

My 3 room apartment is in San Francisco’s best kept secret neighborhood: The Lower Haight!

This is where the locals hang out. Great cafes, bars and restaurants plus great parks within a few blocks in all directions. Centrally located, walking distance or a short bus ride to many other desirable SF locations: Golden Gate Park, to the west, The Castro and the Mission to the south, Alamo Square with the famous Victorian houses and SF skyline just 3 blocks to the north and downtown to the east.

I have a great selection of photography and travel guide books which you are welcome to browse. (I am a photographer and writer). Wifi, free local and long distance calling, towels and bedding are all included. The cleaning fee is set for a short-term stay. If you are staying longer you have the option of changing and washing the sheets yourself or having me do it for the regular cleaning fee.

What is great about this apartment is how bright and quiet it is as it is set back from the street and overlooks the block’s inner gardens. You will have use of the sunny kitchen (light cooking only please) and share the bathroom with me and potentially other guests when the other bedroom is booked. And if you are up for it there is also roof access you may enjoy.

If you're looking for a quiet and safe place at a rate that’s less than a private room at a hostel, you've found it. Except you will have more comfort and more privacy. This is a smoke-free and drug-free house (alcohol in moderation is fine) and I expect you to honor this request.

Please fill in your profile including a recognizable picture, complete the verifications (incl. the popular social media site that Airbnb blocks me from mentioning). Then PLEASE TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELVES! Who are you and why are you coming to San Francisco? What are your plans while you are here? What are your interests? Anything that will give me an idea who I will be inviting into my home. If you are new to Airbnb and do not yet have any reviews, the information in your profile and what you tell me in your message weighs a lot in my decision. I love meeting new travelers, but I also like to know who I am inviting into my home.

Once the booking has been made I will ask to set up a brief video call, so that we can make visual contact before your arrival and answer any questions you might have.

I now have TWO BICYCLES FOR RENT. Explore Golden Gate park on 2 wheels or take a ride across the Golden Gate Bridge or even for commuting to work or school. I am also making my car available for rent for day trips outside of San Francisco, (a lovely VW Passat), as I work from home and do not need it on a daily basis.

If you let me know ahead of time, I can also get transportation passes for you (3 day and 7 day passes). This way you'll be ready to go as soon as you get here.

Thank you for for your interest in my listing. I look forward to hosting you!

  • Christine was a great host. Very hospitable, gave us great suggestions on what to see, where to eat, and provided maps. The room was spacious, bright and the bed was comfortable. • Christine was a wonderful host. She was kind, friendly, and understood when to give guests space. I stayed with her for 3 weeks and I would 100% stay with her again.

The room was just as beautiful and clean as the pictures. It was a large room with a very comfortable bed. The room also has a HUGE closet and plenty of drawer space.

I loved the neighborhood. I could walk down two blocks and find plenty of bars and restaurants.

  • I had a super great time at Chritine's place. The room is just as pictured and the neighborhood is full of great places to eat and hang out. Christine is a great host, gave me plenty of tips for interesting things to do in SF as I'm an interior designer. I definitly recommand to stay in her place, and would to go back there if I have a chance! Thank you again Christine!

  • I had a very peaceful stay at Christine's lovely apartment. The room is spacious, warm, light and comfortable. The closet is huge - which is usually rare for an airbnb room! Christine was incredibly friendly, helpful, upfront and honest about house rules which made for a easy and pleasant stay. Lower haight is a perfect location too - buses running in all directions and many lovely restaurants, shops and parks within walking distance. I highly recommend Christine's place! It is incredible value for the beautiful room and great location!

  • My brief stay at Christine's place had been amazing. A beautiful victorian home. Peaceful neighbourhood with an array of wonderful restaurants. And a brief ten minutes walk to market street.
Christine's selection Of maps and books in the apartment for the guests were more than helpful. Living and travelling in and around SF was a breeze.

  • Christine’s place is very conveniently located, Lower Haight was one of my favorite neighborhoods of San Francisco. It is central to everything (Upper Haight, Hayes Valley, Civic Center, Fillmore, Mission and not far from Castro). I could walk to all these places. It is also 2 blocks from the Haight & Fillmore which is where all happens at Lower (website hidden) Rite at Divisadero is about 6 blocks away.
Christine was very helpful with lots of advice for travelers and always with a smile.

  • Christine was such a great host, helpful and nice. Easy to communicate with. Being a traveller herself, she knows the tips a guest needs to explore the city better. She provided me with maps and info, which I appreciated. Her place is quiet central, easily to walk or take public transportation to everywhere. The room has a huge closet and perfect for long term stays. (One note here: Bring a hair dryer, if you will need one;)
I enjoyed staying at Lower Haight and at Christine's place. I recommend it to everyone.

    Response from Christine:

And you were a fantastic guest and traveler Oz, putting up patiently with a few "hiccups" along the way. And about the hairdryer: I keep looking for one at garage sales and I'm sure that eventually I'll find one! :-)

  • Christine has a great place to stay if you are ever in San Francisco. There are several flights of stairs leading to the apartment. The room I stayed in was very big and clean. There was an office desk inside that was useful for setting up my laptop and connecting to the Internet through DSL. Christine provided a map of the city and also had maps posted on the walls that were very useful. There is only one bathroom but I never had a problem having to wait to use it even though there were guests in the other rented room. The place is also close to many restaurants and coffee shops that have free wifi. I recommend Bean There and Oakside Cafe if you need a quiet place with Internet to work. There are also many laundromats closeby.

Christine was a great host. She knows the city very well and can recommend many places to go and eat. Check-in and check-out were easy and I didn't have any problems while staying there. I would certainly recommend this place!

Photographer & Writer
I am a freelance photographer and writer and endeavor to travel whenever possible, mostly teaching travel photography workshops or photographing for some project or client. I was born in Australia and moved to Germany as a kid, so I'm steeped in both cultures. The San Francisco Bay Area has been my home for most of my adult life. I love meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds and am spellbound by a good story. Though by no means an expert, wine is a big passion and has often dictated my travel itineraries. I have lived in San Francisco a long time and know it very well. If I'm around when you stay at my place I will be happy to give you insider tips, suggestions on where to go and what to do or simply chat with you over a glass of wine. If you let me know, I will even purchase a 3-day or 7-day transportation pass for you, so you're ready to go as soon as you get here. I also have two bicycles available for rent (much less than at the bike rental places and you can keep it for as long as you like). If you are into photography, I also offer private lessons at the most picturesque locations in San Francisco.Or you can just take one of my photos home with you (I have prints available for purchase and am working on a photo book of San Francisco with my insider tips.) Top things I love to do in San Francisco: 1. Biking across the Golden Gate Bridge 2. Walking Ocean Beach - and Crissy Field 3. Catching a dance performance 4. Exploring Golden Gate Park 5. Shopping at neighborhood farmers markets... 6. .... and eating fabulous food - we are a foodie town! 7. Watching windsurfers and sailboats in the Bay. 8. Going to one of the many bizarre or wacky events or festivals. We have a lot of them and I'm still learning about new ones! Insider tip: 1. Ride up the elevator at the de Young museum for a 360 degree view at the top of the tower. It's free. No museum admission required! 2. Walk the labyrinth at Mile Rock Beach and admire the most stunning view San Francisco has to offer. 3. Attend Thursday Night Life at the California Academy of Sciences - music, drinks and full access to the exhibits for a fraction of the price.
