Interaction with Guests
We live next door, so you may well see us, say hello! We are always on hand to offer information and tips about our neighborhood and the rest of New orleans, but we will leave you in peace to enjoy it!
Bywater is classic New Orleans, but without the brashness and noise of the French Quarter.
We now offer complimentary bicycles, complete with locks and helmets, for our guests (just a refundable deposit and liability waiver required). This makes it real easy to get around as New Orleans has NO HILLS! Also bus route no.5 runs by the end of the block straight to the French Quarter and downtown areas. There is also free on-street parking right outside the house.
Check in at 3pm, check out noon (later by arrangement). No guests under 21, ID required. While we do not offer DAILY house keeping, if guests wish fresh towels and linen please let us know and we are happy to oblige! Date restrictions apply to all special events. We require longer minimum stays during Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest, Halloween and Essece Festival.
Very nice stay in a great neighborhood.
Dusty was very welcoming once we arrived. He told us about a great jazz show a block and a half away. Best jazz I have ever heard and The Joint BBQ next door is the (website hidden). The place itself was perfect! Just as the pictures show. I would definitely recommend them to my friends and anyone trying to gain an authentic feel for New Orleans.
Matt and Dusty's place is a fantastic base for exploring NOLA. It is in the Bywater district - a 10 minute slow cycle ride to the French Quarter. There are many great little hidden treasures in the neighbourhood if you are looking for a more local feel, rather than touristic-centric.
The accommodation is entirely self-contained, with its own entrance and bathroom. It is very comfortable and private.
Although I only saw Matt and Dusty briefly during my 3 day stay, they were very responsive to questions and made me feel incredibly welcome. The bottle of wine and milk left in the little fridge was a very nice touch! I left my kindle in the room by accident, and they were very kind to ship it to me.
I highly recommend Matt and Dusty's place if you want an experience that isn't too touristy, a short bike ride to the centre of town, and a chance to hang out in the neighbourhood cafe/bar with the locals.
I had a lovely time at Matt and Dusty's place. The neighborhood is really interesting and charming and I preferred it over the more touristy French quarter. It was also great riding around the bikes that Matt and Dusty provided for free. I would stay here again next time I am in New Orleans!
Matt and Dusty were perfect hosts; all assumed needs met and accommodations were completely as described and more comfy than expected. Tho I was very self-directed for my visit to Prospect 3 Art exhibit, we found time to meet and be social which was very fun! Matt's sister Liza is part of the project, too, and is a delight. Really enjoyed getting to know them all and will be in touch as hosts / friends in the future.
Was especially impressed to find out that their airbnb funds go to support Dusty's (a veterinarian) charity project to spay/neuter cats & dogs in the greater NOLA area. A fabulous service project for the area.
The location introduced me to several great (seriously) restaurants in the area and the facilities are everything you need and make you refreshed every morning! I look forward to my next visit. Thanks so much!
From the chilled bottle of wine in the fridge upon our arrival to the glass of champagne in their home on New Year's Day, Matt & Dusty could not have been more welcoming. My husband and I found the accommodations perfect for our 5-day trip - the bed was also super comfortable! Bywater is a great neighborhood with restaurants, bars and coffee shops a short walk or bike ride away. They seemed to be the local gems that give you some credibility in The Quarter. Dusty & Matt were always available to assist with any questions. Dusty even pumped air into our bike tires :). We highly recommend staying with them and exploring a neighborhood outside of the usual tourist haunts. We hope to be back soon!
Dusty and Matt were excellent hosts! They went the extra mile to make sure check-in was smooth and easy. Everything was as promised in this listing, and the bikes were an excellent way to explore the area!
My mom and I were there on Christmas, and Dusty and Matt were nice enough to include us in their Christmas brunch!

Matt and Dusty love New Orleans so much, we want y'all to come and stay at our house so you can fall in love with it too. We travel a lot, but coming home to the "Big Easy" is always a pleasure. Dusty is a true Southern Gentleman, born in New Orleans, raised in Alabama. Matt is a Scot, raised in London, who moved to New Orleans on a temporary assignment, and fell in love with the city and the people. There is nowhere else we'd rather be for Mardi Gras, Jazzfest, Southern Decadence, Halloween etc. Laissez les bons temps roulez!
