House rules
This place isn’t suitable for children under 12 and the host doesn’t allow pets, parties, or smoking.
Get away from it all in our remote, contemporary style, off-grid, Colorado treehouse, located in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains at 10K ft elevation. Relax on the deck while taking in the amazing views of Culebra Peak or gaze at the star filled skies. A tiny wood-burning stove keeps you cozy and warm (and a propane heater comfortable through the night). The sectional couch converts to super-sized bed. Older kids will be excited to sleep in the small loft on a comfy queen foam topper.

The space
Please note, this is a camping experience, not a hotel stay. The treehouse is located at 10K feet elevation and you will experience shortness of breath when you exert yourself and you may experience altitude sickness. Once you get there, it takes about 30 minutes to set things up (open ladder flat and secure it against treehouse, set up camping chairs, unfold tables, roll kitchen cart in place, set up toilet/sink area, and open exterior metal weather panels). It is a tiny treehouse (200sf) and is very remote and off-grid.

The hosts won't be available during your stay. We do not charge a cleaning fee, so please make sure you leave the treehouse as you found it, clean and orderly for the next group. Please remember to PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT, including trash and toilet waste. We believe in an honor system and trust our guests. If you find something unacceptable, send the host a picture(s) of the issue immediately. Use check out check list located in guide book when checking out. Thanks!

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING (GLAMPING = Glamorous Camping)

-Toiletries
-All food, drinks, water (portable jugs store bought 2.5 gallon jugs with spout are a great choice)

- Camp towels
- Camping necessities: headlamps, bug spray, sunscreen, etc.
-The small town of San Luis is 20 minutes away in case your forget something.

WHAT WE PROVIDE
-Use of the entire treehouse to yourself
-Electricity to charge phones, electronics
-Lights, powered by solar panel system
- Sink water, but we can't promise because it depends on previous guests consumption. (We provide some water in a blue jug with spout - see picture #28). To be sure, bring water jugs with spouts OR the 2.5 gallon store bought jugs with a handle and spout (for sink use). No bathing water is provided!
- 4 deck/camping chairs
- Basic first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and smoke/carbon monoxide detector
-An amazing experience with incredible views!

GROUPS
The treehouse is designed for up to 1-4 adults (or a small family with OLDER kids) and is NOT for use with babies, young children or large groups.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
Treehouse is on a sloped property at 10,000 feet elevation. You WILL feel the effects AND may experience altitude sickness. You will need to be fit enough to carry your supplies uphill for approximately 50 steps (from road) and then climb a 10 foot ladder to access the treehouse. Again, consider this a working camping trip rather than a hotel stay. NO showers available. Absolutely no young children due to safety reasons.

MOBILE PHONE SERVICE
There is spotty mobile phone coverage for Verizon and AT&T. There is no coverage for T-Moble. Most reliable locations for reception are on the front part of the treehouse deck and walking north on the small path (about 100 feet away from the treehouse).

ACCESS
During the summer, the property is easily accessible (graded dirt road, sometimes slightly bumpy/washboard) with a two-wheel drive vehicle. Autumn is relatively easy but, of course, weather permitting. Spring is difficult due to snow/mud conditions (check with host regarding road conditions before booking)!

WINTER ACCESS
Although all the dates are blocked out for the winter, contact the host if you are interested in a winter stay at the treehouse. The hosts can guide you up to the treehouse in the winter via snowmobile and cargo sleds. Your stay Includes transportation, use of one snowmobile and cargo sled, and full use of the treehouse. Contact the hosts for cost and dates if you are interested.

Absolutely no vehicle access in the winter! Regardless of 4 wheel drive, snow at altitude does not go through the melt and freeze cycle and therefore the snow is sand-like and ALL 4 wheel drive vehicles will sink and get stuck. Winter access is by snowmobile ONLY (and cargo sled(s) to carry your supplies).

PARKING
In most circumstances, vehicles can be parked on Ryland road (50 steps down from the treehouse) during your stay. Long-term parking (more than 4 days) is accessed from Forbes road. If you'd like, you can walk back and forth along the scenic path (approximately 500 feet) between long-term parking and the treehouse.

Guest access
From the corner of Forbes and Ryland, drive east approximately 300 feet and enter right onto the property. Guests can park on the dirt "pad".

Other things to note
Set up time takes about half an hour.

You might not have any mobile phone service. Verizon and AT&T have the best coverage.

Please hold the handle tightly when opening and closing the loft stairs as it is spring loaded and will slam shut if not used correctly.

Remember to pack everything you brought out, including toilet bags.

The wood floor scratches easily. Please be extremely careful when moving ottoman.

I'm married to my wonderful wife and we have two beautiful children. I built this treehouse myself with help from friends and family. I obtained an Architecture degree, and am now a teacher. My wife and I are outdoor enthusiasts and enjoy traveling, hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and snowboarding. Our family enjoys the outdoors and that is why we built this treehouse. We absolutely love the treehouse and spend lots of quality time here with family and friends!
