Get away from it all in our remote, contemporary style, off-grid, Colorado treehouse, located in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains at 10K ft elevation. Relax on the deck while taking in the amazing views of Culebra Peak or gaze at the star filled skies. A tiny wood-burning stove keeps you cozy and warm (and a propane heater comfortable through the night). The sectional couch converts to super-sized bed. Older kids will be excited to sleep in the small loft on a comfy 3 inch queen foam topper.

The space
Please note, this is a camping experience, NOT a hotel stay. The treehouse is located at 10K feet elevation and you WILL experience shortness of breath when you exert yourself and you MAY experience altitude sickness. Once you get there, it takes 30 - 60 minutes (depending on party size) to set up the ladder flat and secure it against treehouse, set up camping chairs, unfold tables, roll kitchen cart outside and put the a table OVER the cart (see pictures), set up toilet/sink area, and open exterior metal weather panels). It is a tiny treehouse (200sf) and is very remote and off-grid.

The hosts won't be available during your stay. We do not charge a cleaning fee, so please make sure you leave the treehouse as you found it, clean and orderly for the next group. Please remember to PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT, including trash AND toilet waste. We believe in an honor system and trust our guests. If you find something unacceptable, send the host a picture(s) of the issue immediately. If needed, you can use the check out list located in guide book when checking out. Thanks!

-Sleeping bags (25 degree or better), pillows and (extra blankets if you get cold easily). There's an additional air mattress (stored under the sectional couch) that can be inflated and placed on top of the sectional couch and used with your own queen-sized fitted sheets and comforter...if you want more of a "bed like" setting.
-Layered clothing, rain jackets/coats (mountain weather can change quickly)
-All food, drinks, water (portable jugs store bought 2.5 gallon jugs with spout are a great choice). We recommend that you pre-make as many meals as you can beforehand that way you can enjoy more of the mountain and spends less time preparing/cooking.
- Ice (small portable coolers or soft coolers with handles to carry up 10 foot ladder. A pulley and rope is available to assist hauling up gear.
- Camp towels
- Camping necessities: headlamps, bug spray, sunscreen, etc.
-The small town of San Luis is 20 minutes away in case your forget something.

-Use of the entire treehouse to yourself
-Electricity to charge phones, electronics
-Interior and exterior lights, powered by solar panel system
- 4 deck/camping chairs
- Basic first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and smoke/carbon monoxide detector
-An amazing experience with incredible views!

- Coleman 2 burner propane camping stove and propane canisters
- Lighters/matches
- Basic cooking supplies for four (4) people: medium sized pots and pans, serving utensils
- Real plates and bowls for four (4) people
- Metal utensils and mugs
- Environmentally safe multi-purpose hand/kitchen soap (you MUST use environmentally friendly soap)
- Kitchen sponge
- Salt and pepper
- Trash bags (ALL trash, including toilet waste, will need to be taken with you).

- Environmentally safe multi-purpose hand/dish soap
- Composting blue toilet waste bags (all used bags will need to be taken with you.)

The treehouse is designed for up to 1-4 adults (or a small family with OLDER kids) and is NOT for use with babies, young children or for large groups.

Treehouse is on a sloped property at 10,000 feet elevation. You WILL feel the effects AND may experience altitude sickness. You will need to be fit enough to carry your supplies uphill for approximately 50 steps (from road) and then climb a 10 foot ladder to access the treehouse. Again, consider this a working camping trip rather than a hotel stay. NO showers available. Absolutely NO young children due to safety reasons.

There is good, yet spotty mobile phone coverage for Verizon and AT&T. There is poor/no coverage for T-Mobile. Most reliable locations for reception are on the front part of the treehouse deck or when walking on the small path (about 100 feet away from the treehouse).

Please note, we can not control the weather and it can sometimes be a factor. During the summer, the property is fairly easily accessible with a two-wheel drive vehicle (graded dirt road, sometimes slightly bumpy/washboard). Consecutive days of rain may make a short section of the road to the treehouse muddy and possibly inaccessible. 4WD is recommended when it has been raining. Autumn is also accessible but, of course, weather permitting. Spring is difficult due to snow/mud conditions. 4WD vehicles are recommended. Please note, if you choose to book and the weather prevents access, the host will do their best to accommodate rebooking for another available date that works for both parties. Unfortunately we can not control the weather, so please understand we may have to re-book your reservation. We are only open during summer months and have had to re-book a few times due to poor weather.

No winter access at this time.

Absolutely NO wheeled vehicle access in the winter! Regardless of 4 wheel drive, snow at altitude does not go through the melt and freeze cycle and therefore the snow is sand-like and ALL 4 wheel drive vehicles WILL sink and get stuck. Winter access is by snowmobile ONLY (and cargo sled(s) to carry your supplies).

Parking should be done on Ryland road (50 steps down from the treehouse) during your stay. Ryland has little to no traffic so you should be ok parking there.

I'm married to my wonderful wife and we have two beautiful children. I built this treehouse myself with help from friends and family. I obtained an Architecture degree, and am now a teacher. My wife and I are outdoor enthusiasts and enjoy traveling, hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and snowboarding. Our family enjoys the outdoors and that is why we built this treehouse. We absolutely love the treehouse and spend lots of quality time here with family and friends!
